When I opened the browser, it prompted me about profiles. I clicked on it out of curiosity. However, when I tried to back out of it because I don't need any profiles, it created one anyway. Then whenever I would open the browser, it would prompt me to choose a profile. I don't need any profiles, and it was annoying that there was an extra step. There was the button to turn off the choose profile screen, but I guess I was steadfast in my annoyance, so I deleted the profiles to make it unable to show up. This, however, signed me out of Firefox, and when I logged back in, none of my bookmarks or history were there. I tried the sync option because I at least still had my history on the app, but it did not work. Frankly, I don't care, and I'll just make the bookmarks again. And maybe it should have made sense that deleting the profiles would delete everything with it. But I still think it's insanely stupid to not be able to back out of creating a profile. Took up my time and simultaneously gave me more work to do. I don't want any help or support just needed to voice my feelings.

I imported my bookmarks.json from another computer, via e.mail as I have always done for many years and used it to Restore my bookmarks.

As it has happened a few times before the restoring went apparently well and I can find my bookmarks in the Library (via Manage Bookmarks) but the toolbar is still showing the previous content evn after restarting Firefox.

As I have done in previous cases I looked up for the places.sqlite file but could find it.

Here is what I did find:

<startcode>

arthur-lifebooke743:[arthur]:~$ ls /home/arthur/.mozilla/firefox

cajynx3c.default-release   installs.ini      'Pending Pings'    profiles.ini

'Crash Reports' mfe5h239.default 'Profile Groups' arthur-lifebooke743:[arthur]:~$ ls /home/arthur/.mozilla/firefox/Profile\ Groups 4d0dfc77.sqlite 4d0dfc77.sqlite-shm 4d0dfc77.sqlite-wal arthur-lifebooke743:[arthur]:~$ ls /home/arthur/.mozilla/firefox/mfe5h239.default/ times.json arthur-lifebooke743:[arthur]:~$ ls /home/arthur/.mozilla/firefox/cajynx3c.default-release/ addons.json key4.db addonStartup.json.lz4 lock AlternateServices.bin logins-backup.json bookmarkbackups logins.json bounce-tracking-protection.sqlite minidumps broadcast-listeners.json notificationstore.json cert9.db permissions.sqlite compatibility.ini pkcs11.txt containers.json places.sqlite content-prefs.sqlite places.sqlite-shm cookies.sqlite places.sqlite-wal cookies.sqlite-wal prefs.js crashes protections.sqlite datareporting search.json.mozlz4 domain_to_categories.sqlite security_state domain_to_categories.sqlite-journal serviceworker.txt extension-preferences.json sessionCheckpoints.json extensions sessionstore-backups extension-settings.json settings extensions.json shield-preference-experiments.json extension-store SiteSecurityServiceState.bin extension-store-menus storage favicons.sqlite storage.sqlite favicons.sqlite-shm storage-sync-v2.sqlite favicons.sqlite-wal times.json formhistory.sqlite webappsstore.sqlite gmp-gmpopenh264 webappsstore.sqlite-wal handlers.json xulstore.json arthur-lifebooke743:[arthur]:~$ ls /home/arthur/.mozilla/firefox/cajynx3c.default-release/

<endcode>

My question is: "Should I delete </home/arthur/.mozilla/firefox/cajynx3c.default-release/places.sqlite> since there is no such file in the <Profile Group> folder?

I recently upgraded to Mac OS Tahoe 26.0.1 and opened Firefox as usual. None of my accounts are visible and when I try to follow instructions to go to settings and find my profile I cannot do that either. I cannot change the search location when the account settings window opens.

I thought to do an update but everytime I go there I get the message that Firefox is up to date.

Does anyone have a solution?

I have several profiles which were created using About:Profiles. With the arrival of the new official "Profiles" function I had thought this would pick up my existing profiles and make switching between them easier.

It doesn't since the new official "Profiles" function doesn't see my existing profiles. Am I missing something here, or is the new official "Profiles" function somehow different than the previous, manual profiles system?

This has now happened three times. I implemented the new profiles feature a few days ago, and have three profiles. The issue is that my main profile, every time I reboot my computer/open firefox forgets all my logins. I use a password manager and don't store them in firefox ; this has never been an issue before. It is happening on the same profile each time. My bookmarks/extensions stay the same. This is happening on sites even when I have clicked 'keep me logged in'. There is no site/login that is unaffected - it seems to reset my login status I want to reiterate this is all happening on the same profile - this is not an issue of logins not carrying between different profiles The only other setting I changed is auto-storing passwords on firefox [It had saved my master password accidentally, so.] But there were very few passwords actually stored there, and those sites worked before. I am on Win 11 and have had no issues previously

When I do try to create, rename or delete a profile, I get the message, "An unexpected error has prevented your changes from being saved".

I have a new Windows 11 PC. I installed Firefox first from the Windows store and had problems adding a second profile. Now, I've downloaded the full installer and still have the problem after multiple uninstalls, deleting the appdata Firefox folder and re-installing. I've also tried to rename the FF folder after encountering the problem and just restarting FF. It seems to create a new folder with profiles, but I can't create or delete the profiles from the profile manager or from about:profiles.

I've also checked that the folders and profiles.ini are not in read-only. I've also tried to manually create profiles or create profiles using the command prompt. Nothing seems to work.

I've been using profiles for a while after switching to firefox from chrome as my main browser. I was excited to see the profile manager finally come out so it would be easier to switch between them. However, only one of my profiles is showing up. The other one is not there, so I still have to use the old method to switch over to it. How can I get my other profile to show up in the profile manager?

Hello, on my local disk I have Firefox for Windows (10) installed for more than 2 years now, and the location: %Appdata%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.deault-release\storage\to-be-removed has more than 7000 subfolders and files that sums up to 4GB of data, dating from mid 2023.

I naturally assume that a "to-be-removed" named folder should have it's content removed by some automated task or maintenance service, right? Is this normal, or is there some bug in application maintenance / updating process?

Thank you

Hi! Firefox now has two profile managers. The old one can be used so that I can open two Firefox instances with different desktop files on Linux with the "-P and --no-remote" command line flags. Is this also possible with the new profile manager in Firefox that came with version 138, which is similar to Chrome's? With Chrome this can be done with the "--profile-directory" command line flag. Can't find information about this. /Regards

The recent update to Firefox 144 seems to have completely broken my profiles. Previously, I had an additional profile that I could access and manage very easily from the about:profiles page.

After the update, clicking on "Launch profile in new browser" brings me to a completely blank screen. I can type in the search bar but after pressing enter absolutely nothing happens. (attached image)

I still have the data down the root directory. I tried following the instructions in this post https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1513880 to transfer my data to a new profile created from the new profile manager, but despite copying all the files from my old profile into the new one, absolutely nothing changed.

Honestly I would rather have the browser from the about:profiles page working again, but if that's not possible how do I transfer my profile data to the new profile manager?

I'm on windows 11, but I don't know why Firefox's troubleshooting page thinks I'm on Windows 10, if that matters.

This afternoon, I clicked on a link from an email and for the first time got a choose a profile pop-up. I do not want this; I have read info on Mozilla and elsewhere about its purpose but it doesn't say how to just stop the pop-up - there should be an option just stop the pop-up because I don;t want to have to choose amongst options. I have started copy-pasting the links in emails and going to Chrome and will seriously have to reconsider using Firefox of this continues. I don't want to have to type about:config or anything - this should have been an opt out or opt in thing and I want out. Thank you for your help.

Firefox will open 2 instances when my computer restarts sometimes, 1 instant with the tabs that were current when the laptop restarted, and 1 instance which is a very old instance that is referencing something somewhere.

My question - how do I remove that old instance? I just bought a new WIN11 laptop and it's now happening on that laptop as well.

Thanks in advance!
