I have recently clean installed Windows 11 on my computer. I have noticed with the current Nightly 95 install that the minimize & maximize buttons are completely gone, only the close button is there. Even when I click on the area where the 2 missing buttons are nothing happens. When I double click the same area, the area behaves the same way as the rest of the top bar, it either makes the current window become a smaller window or a full window.

I have also installed Firefox 93 and 94 Beta 6, they both behave as normal with the minimize and maximize buttons visible and usable, just like any other program or Firefox version ever on Windows. Also, before I clean installed Windows 11, I used Nightly 95 on Windows 10 within the last day or so and I don't recall ever having this behavior happen there either.

Is this behavior on Nightly 95 on Windows 11 intentional or an error? I know Firefox has and is going through a massive GUI update and other user facing changes with Proton, but wasn't sure if this had anything to do with the trouble I am experiencing. I also understand that Nightly may have a lot of changes and features that are unique to it. I honestly just wasn't sure about this issue.

Thank you in advance for any and all help!

My minimize/maximize buttons have suddenly gone missing. I found other answers on this site that say Tablet Mode is the culprit; indeed, the density settings within Firefox are telling me Tablet Mode on.

However, tablet mode was officially removed in Windows 11. It's not in the settings, it's not in the Control Panel, and registry edits don't seem to work either. So what's going on here? A regression? How do I get my minimize and maximize buttons back?

Recently I upgraded my Windows 10 to Windows 11 and since doing so, I've had consistent errors while browsing the web on Firefox. Most notably the "Humm. We're having trouble finding that site." error message.

For example, when visiting, say Verizon.com, the tab will display the aforementioned error to which I press Try Again and the website loads correctly every-time. No hiccups on the refresh.

I've tried the following:

  1. I've performed a completely clean uninstall of Firefox and then reinstall
  2. Cleared all browser history/cache
  3. Removed all extensions
  4. Disabled IPv6, HTTPS Over DNS, No Proxy
  5. Ran through Firefox's troubleshooting
  6. Used Firefox Troubleshooting Mode in the Browser
  7. Tested that the problem does not happen while using Edge

I've never had a single problem on Windows 10 with Firefox. Curious if others are experiencing the same issues and if there are any fixes. Nothing else on the PC has changed.

  • Windows 11 21H2 2200.348

I have searched for this problem, and only come across outdated information about Youtube's intentional changes to slowdown Edge and Firefox in 2019. This is not that.

When I load a new youtube video, the video will buffer as normal, and then buffering stops. Then there is a delay of about 10 seconds. You can see from my screenshot that the buffer is filled just fine, and playback begins about 10 seconds later. This also happens if I skip ahead/back or to any position in the video. This firefox install is on a new install of Windows 11, with a new xps 13. The previous xps 13 with windows 11 didn't have this problem, and I don't have this problem on my desktop setup with windows 10.

I use a few addons: decentraleyes, ublock, duckduckgo and I have privacy protections set to strict. I have tried a few troubleshooting steps and the problem persists. Things I have tried:

  • safe-mode
  • fresh install
  • installed additional codecs
  • used user-agent workarounds to show as a chromium based browser
  • turned off hardware acceleration

The problem doesn't happen on chrome, but it does happen on Edge, which is strange. Because of this, I'm wondering if there is something going on with codecs. In the firefox screenshot posted, the codec used is vp09, same with Edge. But in Chrome the codec is av01.

Hello, Can someone please tell me how to stop my "search bar" text from also showing up in my "address bar"? I have search the internet and found all of the following ways that have been suggested that have not worked.

I read that I should set the following to "false" to solve my problem.

1) keyword.enabled 2) browser.fixup.alternate.enabled 3) browser.urlbar.suggest.surches

I have also gone into the settings menu and un-checked everything I could find about suggestions or words or anything else being added to the address bar. The only thing that should show up in and address bar is................you guessed it: AN ADDRESS!  :-) Thanks so much for your help.

I really appreciate the help. Mark

Ever since upgrading to windows 11 firefox developer edition will not work for me at all.

I have reinstalled it multiple times now and every single time its the same thing, after a fresh install I can open the browser, use it once, close the browser and then it breaks and I am unable to use it again - sometimes i cant even open it up again it creates a background process in the task manager but never appears.

  • - None of the tabs will load anything at all including any of the settings pages or debug/troubleshooting page (about:<page>) - its like it doesnt even attempt to load anything its completely unresponsive
  • - Clicking on any buttons in firefox/options menu do nothing
  • - If i close it i see between 2-10 firefox processes appear in my task manager which i have to go through and end each task before i am able to open the browser up again and even then that doesnt always work.
  • - Because it opens a bunch of processes when you close the browser and this prevents it from re-opening it is not possible to put it into troubleshooting mode
  • - Even after a fresh install (described below) after re-installing the browser it always opens for the first time with a message saying that 'I have reinstalled firefox would i like to refresh the browser' with a button to refresh - If i click this refresh button it instantly breaks it

In order to fix this I have to completely remove firefox from my machine including:

  • - Everything in my users folder
  • - Everything in program files/programdata
  • - Search my C:\ drive and remove all traces of mozilla/firefox i can find
  • - Clear all temp files
  • - Run a disk cleanup
  • - Restart my machine

Before i can attempt to install firefox again. If i dont do this after i reinstall it opens firefox up in exactly the same state it was in before i uninstalled it, same tabs open & completely unresponsive.

When I go to bookmark a web site, as I start to type the bookmark folder name it vanishes.

I have to go into the bookmarks folder, find the no name folder and type in the new folder name.

As I start typing I have to enter the first letter twice as first strike does not work.

I have thousands of bookmarks which are set up in a Book, Chapter, Paragraph, Sentence format. So when a new folder goes missing it is easy to find the unnamed or a folder with no name. Thank you for the help.

Periodically lately I have been getting, on my HP Desktop w Firefox browser, a black outlined box about 3" X 2" popping up after I open the browser. It 'looks' official' or at least disturbing, and says, click on this link "MsMpEng.exe", but doesn't exactly say WHY you should do so. It looks like a hack but also official. Why would Firefox or Windows 11 allow such a prominent hack on the prime page? Can it be real? Very suspicious. happens maybe once a week or so last 5-6 weeks.

I'm developing my company's website, located at www.deccopainting.com - which displays the home page fine, but when I link back from other pages using "index.html" - firefox displays a message from my host provider suggesting that index.html is not there.

index.html is in fact there, obviously, and the link to index.html displays in Chrome, Edge, and every single other browser I've tested it on, it's only Firefox that does not display index.html if it's actually typed in the URL bar or linked from another page.

You can test this by first going to www.deccopainting.com (site is not complete) and then going to www.deccopainting.com/index.html.

I am aware I can use <a href="www.deccopainting.com"> instead, but why should I have to do this, when every other browser on the market works as it should??

Submitting using Chrome, which may have to become my default browser.

Firefox 96.0. Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000

Since installing FF 96, the program has stopped loading pages. Will not even load home page. Starting in troubleshooting mode sometimes works, but sometimes does not.

No extensions are installed.` I have tried Refreshing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Neither helps. Multiple instances of FF are started with every launch, even when the launch results in a blank page.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you,

So yesterday I got a new computer and downloaded Firefox to be my default browser. It worked fine the first few hours -- I was able to log into my account, set up my extensions, and use the browser as intended. A few hours in, though, it completely crashed on me. I am unable to go to new websites, refresh a page, open bookmarks, log in to my Firefox account, or even open settings; the home screen also doesn't load when I open a new tab. Literally the only thing I can do is freeze the Bookmarks Toolbar and customize the Toolbar. I tried closing and reopening, refreshing/resetting the browser, restarting my computer, going into Troubleshoot mode, deleting and redownloading the application, but nothing is working. I have no trouble with Firefox on my previous computer or my phone, and Edge is working fine on this computer. I don't know what to do anymore. Any help would be much appreciated.
