Why does Firefox use roughly 20x more RAM than Brave for the same tabs? And what can be done?

In practice, for a dozen or two tabs, Firefox uses 4-7 GB of RAM, where Brave uses 300-400 MB. This sometimes gets me to using all of my 16 GB of RAM without having more than a browser & a few apps.

Hardware : recent Dell Inspiron 16 Plus (7620) with SSD, 16 GB DDR 4800 Mhz, decent i5 CPU and 6GB of dedicated GPU RAM - it's a pretty fast laptop.

Hello. I have been having problems in Firefox recently, which I think may have started since recent updates.

First problem: I use Mullvad VPN and now pages won't load...the browser seems to get stuck, especially when I google things but also when I put in actual URLs. Mullvad support says that something is trying to set the DNS and this is interfering with the VPN but I don't know what this could be. I checked the DNS setting in Firefox and it says it is turned off. I am having no problem like this when I use Safari.

Second problem, which may or may not be related: a teaching interface that I have used for many years, now suddenly won't let me drag and drop files into it or do other routine manipulations. Again, I am having no problems on Safari.

I'm very comfortable but no computer expert so please advise in very user friendly terms. Thank you!

When you cancel a program, you cannot start another one because Firefox is not responding and first the"old" Firefox must be stopped. This is onerous. Why not automatically (i.e. with a software delete) stop the "old" Firefox each time a Firefox-supported program is cancelled?

My Firefox is randomly reloading all tabs, across all windows.

There seems to be no trigger for this on my end, at least there is no pattern that has been evident to me. There is no specific time interval that causes this either.

Please help illustrate this problem better, or guide me to a solution. Thanks!

I can't get Firefox to load paypal.com in a regular tab. The only true fix so far has been to open a private window and go to paypal there. I've been through all the fixes listed in the help section. Clearing the cookies helped for just one use, then that tactic quit working - messed with all the suggested settings, still won't work. I guess I can keep opening a private window, but I would really just like a fix for it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since the most recent upgrade, Firefox does not open properly. If I have a link in another doc that is supposed to take me to its page, Firefox will open, but only to the home page. I have to click on the link again in order to get it to open the page that the link is supposed to open. This happens with links in things like a Pages document, and also with links embedded in emails. This is new behavior. Why is this happening, and is there a fix for it?

For several weeks now I have been a Bad Request error when trying to sign into my bank account:

Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

Things work fine when I use Google Chrome, but I do not view that as a long-term fix. Can you help?
