Only Firefox Browser 100.0.1 (64-bit) and (32-bit) won't respond to HTML <audio> Tag in a webpage. I have 4 computers (tower, laptops and tablet) using Windows 7 or Windows 10 though Firefox won't play <audio> tag sounds on any of them. All computers are also running Chrome (Version 101.0.4951.67 (Official Build) (64-bit)) and Internet Explorer (Ver: 20H2 OS Build 19042.1706) and those browsers play the <audio> Tag just fine. Note: videos from YouTube play video & audio as well as .mp3 files just fine in Firefox. Volume Mixer for Firefox is set to 50%, no mute. All other applications in Volume Mixer are set the same. I also deleted browsing history, cookies, Cash, Forms, Offline website data & search history as well as Site settings. Range to clear 'Today'. And, Firefox still won't respond to the <audio> tag. Also, restarted the computer and uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it, no change. w3schools.com indicates Firefox first supported the <audio> tag in version 3.5. Coding on webpage is: (javascript) $document.onkeyup(function(i){if(i.keyCode==37){document.getElementById('audio').play();}else{if (e.keyCode == 39){document.getElementById('audio').play();}}}) HTML coding is: <audio id="audio" controls style="display:none"> <source src="https://www.b*******.mp3" type="audio/mpeg"> Your browser does not support the audio element.</audio>. I also tried including <code>audio</code> element. just before the </audio> closing tag though no change. Thoughts?

I got mad at a website that wouldn't let me right click menu to save pictures, so I stubbornly saved them via less efficient means, in the process I picked up the Long Screenshot extension and this had an error shortly before or after I had an issue with Lightshot not appearing, other extensions did not appear either when I added them during this time period, but now these all appear with the exception of Lightshot, which gets deleted and reinstalled only to not appear, that of course being the problem, though I will also say that a right click menu not being there is like reaching onto my computer and pulling my finger away, sites that do that should be given the cold shoulder somehow, at least.

Firefox performs badly in speedtests and slows down internet speed of the whole system

Hello everyone,

this here is a really odd problem and not one of the usual "firefox slow, internet bad" → "read the faq" problems as far as I can tell.

The problem: When using Firefox (110.0 64-bit Windows 10) I noticed already a while ago that downloads are slow, apparently frozen from time to time, websites took longer to load and looking at speed tests, I got really bad results. Furthermore, Firefox seems to slow down my internet speeds of the whole system, as I can observe in other applications which want to download or upload data. As long as Firefox is running (even if I am just in the default tab and doing nothing in Firefox) it slows the internet speed of the whole system down.

So I tried a plethora of things to fix this and I can rule out the following possible causes with high confidence:

  • History, Cache, Add-Ons and so on: performed a clean re-install of Firefox, cleared all cache and history data, removed add-ons, reset to default, etc..
  • ISP problem: performed repeated speedtests from other devices within the network, everything is fine within my local and wide area network, ISP does not report any problems
  • Firewall & AV: turning on / off, even uninstalling, no effect observed
  • Driver problem: driver updated, driver removed, used default Windows Driver, used Troubleshooter etc., nothing helped.
  • OS issue: Nope. I even performed a clean new installation of Windows today, the problem remains. Furthermore: I ran the speedtests using Microsoft Edge and there are no issues (as long as Firefox is not running.)
  • HW / System issue: Nopes again. I have used a live Ubuntu-image to cross-check whether the HW might be an issue, but running speedtests using Ubuntu and Firefox worked well.

I did not observe similar effects on other machines using Firefox under Windows in my network. So it seems to be a very specific problem within Firefox under Windows 10 on my machine.

By the way the machine: HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0200ng CPU: Intel Core i5-9300H RAM: 16 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM WiFi: Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11ac (via PCIe) (I also have an Ethernet chipset on this system, but since I have tested everything using only WiFi I'll omit the info here.)

So is this a bug of Firefox? Or am I missing something?

Attached are some screenshots of the disappointing test results using Firefox. (I have similar problems on other sites like speedtest.net or the speedtest of Google). As reference: I've got 500 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s upstream. Usually these speeds are achieved from other devices (or other browsers on my system), or are at least within the top 80%. But what I get with Firefox is significantly worse. It's also strange that the speed goes up first, which is fine, but then falls down completely after reaching some point. A few seconds after that it goes up again, but much much slower.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Firefox/mozilla spends so much time jerking each other after new updates, THEY FORGET that more than half are stuck with a crappy update and NOBODY AVAILABLE TO HELP.

I suggest you provide a link for REAL help. Stop hiding like cowards and help the people your updates end up screwing up.
OR MAYBE you can actually create an update that WORKS.

Your latest update destroyed everything and nothing works. So how about you dummys be available to actually help your customers.

Do you think an update that takes users DAYS TO FIX is an update you can be proud of???!!!

An update should NOT cause users to spend hours looking for a solution your damned update has caused.

Help me with solutions and stop hiding.

I've had a problem recently with some sites (such as support.apple.com, but also others) loading very slowly or not loading at all.

  • Restarting Firefox fixes it for a short while
  • I've tried changing to No Proxy from Use System Proxy Settings - this, like restarting, helped for a short while
  • Unchecking DNS over HTTPS: DID resolve the problem but I'm curious as to why. I enable it with Safari with no problem.

When navigating within retailer web sites, some clicks, such as searching for their nearest branch, consistently produce an Access Denied message, such as the following one:

Access Denied You don't have permission to access "http://www.argos.co.uk/stores/?" on this server.

Reference #18.d639dd58.1652362340.afeb7586

I get a similar response when trying to open some web sites, such as Sainsburys.co.uk which has just responded with the following 403 message:

403 ERROR The request could not be satisfied. Request blocked. We can't connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner. If you provide content to customers through CloudFront, you can find steps to troubleshoot and help prevent this error by reviewing the CloudFront documentation.

Are such searches controlled via Firefox? If so, do I need to change a Firefox setting to overcome the problem?
