Several weeks ago, accidentally ruined a Win10 system installed on my newest PC built about 10 months ago. Had to reset Windows, so beforehand I copied the C:Windows drive onto a blank HDD and saved it, hoping I could rebuild Firefox and Thunderbird from the profile data on the saved HDD. I had to do this because I discovered that my backup software, which would have fixed everything, was not running correctly for the crashed machine. When I populated the new PC last fall I was able to migrate both Firefox and Thunderbird onto it. It was tedious and I didn't get it right the first couple of times, despite how simple it looks. But it worked eventually.

Tried to restore Thunderbird emails first, with no success. Finally discovered a software package (Thunderbird Migrator) which kinda restored the emails (95%) with help from their TS and another license so they could restore it to my machine lol. Discovered afterwards that the reset Windows installation was corrupt. Not sure if that affected the restore. Used DISM and SFC which now report system OK.

For Firefox, I found a profile I had saved when I first built the machine. I was able to restore that one. Figures since the profile was a mess I cleaned up on the new machine. Found seven other profiles and can't get any of them to work properly. One profile which should have hundreds of bookmarks only presented about a dozen separator lines and nothing else. It made me wonder what could be different. The profile that worked was created on a running machine. All the other profiles do nothing. I can't see why there should be a difference but I am running out of ideas.

Unless the crash corrupted the profiles, shouldn't they work? Found some local computer businesses that offer data recovery services. Do you have any advice on where to get help?

TIA

Over a week's time, FF becomes unmanageable! Requiring a total shutdown, and restart of the browser. Even when I shut down the browser, if I go into Windows Task Manager, it will still show multiple instances of FF open, that I have to manually shut down. This is utter nonsense, and why should I have to put up with this?

I've been a FF fan for years now, but am getting frustrated to the point of switching to something else!

My home screen shortcuts are behaving abnormally. The icons disappeared and were replaced by the first letter of the title field for the link - a few of the shortcuts were gone. After a short while some of the original icons reappeared, but not all. In addition, a few of my shortcuts have been randomly replaced by shortcuts to web sites that I have just visited. This seems to have started with the most recent Firefox update. Is this unique to me? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Ever since updating Firefox to version 115.1, I have an issue with correct accessing to banking website through an additional Firefox tab, secured by antivirus software. In my case it is ESET Internet Security. Normally once I tried to access a banking website on Firefox, antivirus automatically put me through to a secured tab. Since the update, it's not happening and the only way to do it is to force antivirus to used that security addon on all websites, not just those selected in the program. I see no reason to use it apart from banking websites. I would like to point out that other browsers I have tried don't have that problem. And it's definitely not a problem with antivirus software, since there were no changes or updates to ESET software between period when Firefox received updates. I have also tried out a beta release of Firefox (116) and the problem is present there as well.

I am waiting for your feedback. Thank you in advance. Michał Baranowski

I tried to install Firefox on Windows 10 and clicked on the downloaded “Firefox installer". However, I felt the response was slow due to my PC having an HDD, Then I clicked "Firefox installer" again. As a result, two Firefoxes were installed and there were two Firefoxes in the start menu. I tried to remove both Firefoxes to start over from scratch. I uninstalled one first, but now I can’t remove the other one left. Can you please tell me how to remove it?

I am on a work domain. I still have admin credentials but they are restricted to only some installs and no writing to USB devices. The Firefox updates don't work. I have to manually download from about:preferences General page then run the install file after it downloads. The update page says it will migrate all my settings over but it does not. Now I have the old Firefox which has been updated and the new Firefox that is also the new version. Why are there 2 versions and why did the new install not migrate all my setting and bookmarks, etc. into just one installed version ??? Should I just uninstall all Firefox's and install thru the Windows Store? Will that allow updates with my restricted admin profile?

Seriously??? I just downloaded an update yesterday, I haven't even installed it yet now Firefox wants to update again.

I've got two words for you, and they are not nice.

Will you PLEASE CUT IT OUT with the constant updates! I have work to do in other apps, like Outlook and Libre Office (google those). I can't be for you whatever you think I am here for! Using Firefox updates to get attention is not appropriate!

All of this started after the 12 July update, I think. Worked flawlessly before this and I haven't installed anything else on the drive.

Firefox will function normally on some instances. However, there are times when, upon opening/running Firefox again, it opens without my previous tabs.

When this happens, I usually check Settings and find that "Open previous windows and tabs" in the Startup options is unchecked even though I checked it last time I used the browser.

And when this happens, Firefox usually opens on the tab you get when you first install it (where it shows you how to set up Firefox).

Going through the Privacy options also shows me that "Allow Firefox to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla" is ALWAYS checked under "Firefox data collection and use" when this happens, even though I previously disabled it.

Finally -- and this is the most irritating thing about it -- I can't open URLS on any tab. They go into perpetual loading instead.

To open URLs again, I have to select "Help" > "Troubleshoot Mode" > then "Restart" Firefox in troubleshooting mode, close it, and reopen it to get it working again. I've also selected Refresh once but it hasn't fixed the problem since this is happening again.

Can someone please help me figure out how to fix this?

I had to do a full on reinstall of windows early this morning. Once that was all done I re-downloaded everything I was using before. Once I had installed everything I hopped on FireFox and had started to browse through my bookmarks. I had all of them in one folder but not another in the bookmark sidebar you can open with ctrl+b. So I went to manage bookmarks and went on to import/backup. I had a backup from around 2:30am today and that's the one I had tried using because this was before the time I had started to reinstall windows. I must have looked at something wrong because I have now completely overwritten my backup.

I still have all logins and history from the past 6 months I just lost my bookmarks by overwriting them myself by mistake.

I've tried to go to the bookmark and restore it to a previous version but it doesn't appear to have one.

Just to clear up on the full reinstall I had to completely reformat my drives therefore I no longer had access to any Windows.old folders to go searching through.

I've included a few pictures to help show what I'm looking at whether or not they'll be helpful. I hope I'm not to SoL on this one but if I am it can't be helped.

Hi, I regularly use https://community.railwaymodellers.com but yesterday found that I could no longer post items or add comments to posts. It will let me add photos and "likes" but not let me add any text or create a new post. It was suggested by their admin that I try a different browser and I can confirm that if I access using 'Chrome' then I don't have this problem. They have also said that one of their other members has also reported an issue using Firefox... so this suggests that something has changed at Firefox during the past 24hrs to cause this issue. Any thoughts? Regards, Ian Perrin
