Is it possible to change Firefox's zoom type?

Background info on Firefox zooming capabilities:

When I do the pinch-in movement on my laptop's touchpad on Firefox, the window zooms in, as if it had a magnifying glass. I'll call this the "magnifying zoom".

However, Firefox has 2 other types of zooms. It can zoom only the text (I'll call this "text zoom"), where the CSS property `font-size` is changed for all text, and it can zoom all elements (I'll call this "elements zoom"), where images, video tags etc., all HTML elements are increased in size.

The main difference between these 3 types of zoom I found are that:

- the magnifier zoom doesn't change anything about CSS or the page layout, everything stays exactly as it was, the only difference is that the window is magnified, so everything looks bigger.
- the elements zoom does change the page layout. For example, by increasing the size of HTML elements, it can have the same effect of a media query for a smaller screen size and remove or reorganize column of elements. By changing elements sizes, elements can get reordered around the page. This never happens with the magnifier zoom, where the page remains exactly as it was before, but magnified.
- the text zoom only changes text size, although this can also trigger a change to the page layout if HTML elements get too big.

I'm currently using a bluetooth keyboard with a touchpad, when I pinch-in using this bluetooth touchpad, I get an elements zoom, instead of a magnifier zoom like the one of my laptop's touchpad. I believe the reason is that my bluetooth touchpad is being recognized as a mouse, and using Ctrl+mouse wheel gets an elements zoom.

    1. Question:

Is there a way to force all pinch in movements or all zooms to be only magnifier zooms? I don't want to change the page layout, I only want to magnify a certain part I can't see properly. Is there a way to pick and choose which kind of zoom I'd like to have?

I only found [addons][1] that could let me choose between elements zoom and text zoom, but there's no option for the magnifier zoom.

From one day to the other mozilla started showing me notifications on the menu bar in a white flashing background. I have disabled all notifications, but it didn't stop the white bar flashing every time I change tabs. Is there any way to stop that from happening as it is supremely annoying. I work with many tabs. Thank you

Hi

The install fails 3/4 along the install bar. Firefox was removed from programs and apps but a few folders left behind, but I have removed them from the program files, appdata and maintenance folders. This has happened since the MS ASR bug on the 14/1/23.

Windows 10 crashed and I had to re-set. Afterwards I had to re-install Firefox browser. Now, when I click on the Firefox icon, Bing opens instead. I dislike Bing and have tried everything I can think of in Settings to get it to open to the Firefox page. No luck. Any EZ suggestions. I'm not terribly technical, so please provide easy step-by-step instructions. Thanks. BTW, tried changing through HOME icon, that didn't work either.

Firefox Window Resizing when moving to another Screen, when there is differing DPI scales

Hi,

I have a multi screen setup with my desktop, my main is 1440p(with 125% dpi scaling) and the others are 1080p(with 100% dpi scaling), I prefer it this way as text is displayed at a more consistent size between all screens.

However every time I move a Firefox window to another screen it will resize to fit within that screen, even when it would a have fitted fine as it was before the move.

This is of great inconvenience to me as it keeps on happening until the window size is unreasonably small...

I feel there is obviously a feature within Firefox that is causing this inconvenient behavior, as it does not happen to other software UIs, See this https://youtu.be/Hu61IGSrsKI

So Is there any way to prevent that behavior? , As I have not seen any options in settings that refer to it, nor have other resources online been informative.

Notes: I'm on windows 11 and I'm up to date, Yes I'm using some UI modes to make it look like Win10 but disabling them does not change this behavior Multi screen snap feature is disabled, Remember this is not happening to other UI windows on my system. Yes if I turn off the increased DPI scaling on my main screen it no longer happens, but if other UIs work fine why not Firefox, why should my preferences have to change to suit... :)

Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated

Firefox has a feature to open the last session on startup. The description says that opens the last windows and tabs. But in fact, if several windows were open, then one of them opens, it seems randomly selected, I could not find a pattern. Sometimes, 1 time out of 5, both windows open, but I would like it to work all the time.

Since 2016, I own a laptop with dual boot: Ubuntu as the primary OS (current version is 22.04) and Windows 10. The laptop has two video cards, Intel HD graphics 520 and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX. (I stopped NVIDIA on Ubuntu.) Since Ubuntu 21.10, I've run into various performance issues. However, when Windows boots up, the laptop behaves normally. Firefox is my main tool today. I have noticed that Firefox on Linux consumes much more CPU and memory than Firefox on Windows when I do the same thing on the web: open the same pages and watch the same videos. This is a clear sign that my Firefox on Ubuntu is not running smoothly. The audio stream is often interrupted for a while when I'm working on a page or opening another tab. On Windows, the audio stream is much more stable. What could be causing such poor performance of Firefox on Linux? Linux may have broken the Intel driver in version 21.10, however, I never run GPU-heavy tasks

In the last month I keep having the same issue and I am this close of giving up on Mozilla, although it has been my default browser for years now. After a version update or just closing the entire session, my previous tabs are not being loaded anymore and it suck when I have to re-open 24 tabs, considering that I dont ussualy remember all of them.

Please advise if there is something that I can do to solve this issue! And YES, I do have checked the box with "Open previous windows and tabs" at start-up.

Thank you, Bogdan!

Just started last few days. NY Post articles often have "What do you think? Post a Comment." Day before yesterday, I encountered "What do you think? Be the first to Comment." Didn't think at the time and had nothing to say. Now, every article says "...Be the first..." but the link to post doesn't work. Nothing happens. Since it happened on several articles that were not really new and that there would have to have been comments, I opened the article in Edge. There they were: 412 comments and "Join the conversation." Chrome? No problem. Opera? OK, too. Closed and reopened Firefox. Nope.

I've not added any new security. I turned off Malwarebytes Browser Guard. That made no difference. Again only Firefox--my only browser except when I need to look at a website without my account logging in--seems to be affected.

Thanks. Bill

I'm in an area with satellite internet being my only service option. Streaming videos and movies during the day, between hours of 8AM and 2Am is very costly, I am, however, provided with 50 gig of free data overnight between the hours of 2AM and 8AM by my IP. I was using a bat file in the windows scheduling app to close Firefox so as to avoid overrunning into my daytime allotment when downloading programs unsupervised. One of my sites I use for downloads tends to continue sending if you are downloading a TV series. Foe instance if I start downloading episode one of a series which has sixteen episodes in the season, the site will keep cranking until all sixteen are captured. I was using a bat file I wrote in 2020 which worked quite well to shut down by closing Firefox at 8 AM, but since your most recent software release the file is failing. Basically what is needed is the batch file command string now necessary to close Firefox and I'll be a happy camper.

I know this has been referred to in other topics but they appear they have been closed without a resolution from Firefox. This problem is one of the many reasons users should not take the updates that Firefox forces upon you: too many problems incorporated which take too long to fix. It took me a long while to find a working method which Firefox wouldn't broadcast, but I got there in the end. Google just doesn't update, it broadcast the changes well in advance allowing developers to adapt before the roll out. Developers who don't work for Firefox that is! I had stopped updates as they make more problems than they fix, but had to try the latest as Google maps stopped working: All I get is a blank webpage with nothing showing. Others have suggested a plugin etc. etc. etc., but this does not solve the fact that other browser don't have this problem and neither does Firefox! What! You read this right! version 52.0 works without a hitch with Google maps, so a way of getting Firefox to work is to revert to a previous version which doesn't have the dodgy embedded code. So why exactly are we waiting for an update for something that has worked in the past but has now stopped because the developers either don't know how to fix it or can't be bothered. Firefox are clearly showing they are not coping with updates as well as the competition. I use the term loosely, as Firefox appear to have given up entirely!

After an upgrade about 6-9 mths ago (and yet continuing), my Firefox browser when 1st initiated *(no URL accessed yet) will present (at first 2 boxes) up to 4 master password boxes.

Entering the PW into one of them does not seem to allow me consistent access to PW use ability.

I have found clicking the "X" on all of them then continuing to a site that calls for a PW then brings up 1 M Password box, and "normal" operation seems to ensue.

No relevant crashing or odd screen presentation seems to be associated.

Any fix or concern about malicious intent?

Not occurring on my Android associated w/same F.Fox account, but it has occurred on another desktop, but seemed to go away .. (hmm will need to check if still occurring there)
