Before the update I used the middle mouse button to open file links in a new tab. There was a dialogue box if I want to download the file. And if no, it left the link in the address bar of the new empty tab.

Now if It automatically closes the tab after I click it to open with middle mouse button. What do I need to change to keep the tab open?

Image: Discord file download link I choose to open in a new tab and the tab that I don't want to close.

My problem is similar to question https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1370409 and likely comes from the same firefox update.

In the past, when ICS files were in a mail, I had been asked what to do, and could open them in OUTLOOK. This option has been apparently cancelled and it only asks where to save the file, without any option to open it directly. Furthermore, when I try to modify it in the "settings" and change it to "Always ask" I can't find no ICS files nor OUTLOOK SCHEDULE files. Please advice. Thanks

Have a medical clinic patient portal with a Billing section (https://13059-1.portal.athenahealth.com/?section=payment...) that allows you to pay your office and TeleMed bills. The link works perfectly normal in the Google Chrome browser, but is inactive/nonfunctional in Firefox. This is not a "pop-up", but a "Redirect to a Secure Payment Server", specifically https://secure.athenahealthpayment.com/ How do I configure Firefox such that it works correctly?

I've had a problem recently with some sites (such as support.apple.com, but also others) loading very slowly or not loading at all.

  • Restarting Firefox fixes it for a short while
  • I've tried changing to No Proxy from Use System Proxy Settings - this, like restarting, helped for a short while
  • Unchecking DNS over HTTPS: DID resolve the problem but I'm curious as to why. I enable it with Safari with no problem.

Thanks for making Mozilla possible. I rely on your work for the security of my work.

I am considering downloading CleanURLs (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/clearurls/). I would like to do this because it takes me a lot of time to clean a URL when I want to share a URL with someone. And, sometimes, a cleaned link in an Amazon URL doesn't work.

Since I am doing this for privacy and security which, I assume, is a reason many people have for downloading this extension. I am concerned about letting programs, apps, extensions, etc. roam wild in my computer.

Today's limitations are helpful, but not very clear. For example, if I download ClearURLs, it will have permission to:

  • Access my data on all websites
  • Download files and read and modify the browser's download history
  • Access browser tabs
  • Access Browser activity during navigation

(See attached image.)

Much of what happens on the internet is based on trust. I trust Mozilla so, even knowing about these permissions, I may download it.

However, this is a good example of a common practice which, itself, raises questions of security and privacy.

Pretty much everything I download has permission statements like these, and no way to opt out of them and still make use of the download. I think this is probably true for many of your users.

Using your permission statement as an example, why does the extension need to have permission to:

  • Access my data on all websites? The only thing this app does is clean URLs. I would happily give it permission to pop-up when I want to copy a URL and ask if I want to copy the whole URL or a cleaned URL. That is much safer than letting an extension access all my data.
  • Download files and read and modify the browser's download history. Why is this permission needed? The stated purpose of the extension is limited to cleaning URLs - which would seem to have nothing to do with the download process or my browsing history.
  • Access browser tabs. Once again, what's this have to do with Cleaning URLs?
  • Access Browser activity during navigation. For a third time, what's this have to do with Cleaning URLs? If it is for a limited purpose, such as catching unclean URLs and asking if the user would like to clean the URL - then it should say that.

I have taken the time to share this with the hope that you find these suggestions useful for the future development of CleanURLs.

Firefox 98 no longer giving option to open or save file, it now just saves files to my Download folder, which I don't want. I use firefox for work, and I have to download literally hundreds of files, mainly generated excel spreadsheets, a day. The ability to have the option to just open the file from the temp folder that gets cleared when firefox closed was great. Now I have to fiddle with about:config to get back even a portion of what I was able to do before. currently i have browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel set to false, which helps, but there are just certain file types that ignore this setting, such as zip files and pdf files. Those still auto download to the Download folder, then I have to go hunt for them if I need to attach them to emails. It's a BAD feature. How do I revert it to do what it did pre ver 98?

Hi,

I recently migrated from Chrome to Firefox for a variety of reasons. I would like to continue using Firefox. However, everytime I close out of it and then reopen it I am forced to log back into every site. Firefox does not hold my passwords and does not keep me logged in like Chrome does.

Is there a way for me to correct this? Otherwise I need to go back to using Chrome.

Thank you,

After update to 98.0.1, several websites I have used for the the past several years are not working. Specifically the following issues:

Log into a site and then click to check balance, make a transfer, check order status, etc and it kicks me out.

Clear all history, cache, cookies, temp files, .dat file etc.

Try again with same issue

Go to same sites with Chrome and Edge and they all work fine

Running Windows 8.1 all updated

Please do not say it is a Windows, Virus protection issue or other. (Turned off virus protection and had same issues). The sites worked before the update and now they do not. The sites work fine with Chrome and Edge.

I have had Firefox for years, and now it is seriously messing up. Firstly, when i open it up as usual, it opens for a second, then vanishes. Secondly, my settings are set for Firefox to restore my previous pages, but it does not anymore. Thirdly, my task manager is showing that there are 12 Firefox windows already open, ( which you can see by the attachment). Can anyone help in this matter please? Please note also that i am a basic computer user, so any help offered would have to be as basic as possible. Thank you.
