A certain set of plaintext files are rendered in a weird way when opened in Firefox.

Some plaintext files are rendered "MS Gothic", which is the default monospace font for plaintext files in Japanese encoding. (Also, if I change font.name-list.monospace.ja to "monospace", the font changes).

However, the files are not in Japanese encoding, they do not contain a single character in Japanese encoding. Since the files are local, they have no HTTP headers to determine the encoding, so Firefox must have guessed the encoding somehow. How can I stop firefox from detecting those files as Japanese while they are not?

Also, I noticed that this issue happens only with long files. The shorter a file, the less likely it is that Firefox renders the file as if it had Japanese encoding.

Since I cannot reproduce the issue with smaller files and the files contain confidential information, I am unable to provide a minimal reproducer.

As a workaround, I could change font.name-list.monospace.ja, but this would change (potentially break) rendering of Japanese websites.

I'm using Firefox 124.0.1 on Windows 10, although this issue has been present for at least some months (at least 4 firefox releases).

The screenshot shows an excerpt where the text "C:\Temp\2024-" is partially rendered with Japanese glyphs and fully rendered with "MS Gothic" font which is hard to read with ASCII characters.

PS: I [censored] some of the information in the "Troubleshooting Information" field below.

When I turn off the windows animations in Windows 10 the font on Twitter.com changes somewhat. I believe it is altering the character spacing/scaling.

I have not had this behavior on other browsers (Brave, Edge, Chrome & OperaGX tested). I have not noticed this on other websites, but I also haven't really looked.

Windows version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.4291) Firefox version 124.0.2

Images provided are with them off, then on

Steps to recreate 1. Load a tweet (tweet in the images: https://twitter.com/FedeItaliano76/status/1779855670432408011) 2. Turn off window animations (settings->display->show animations in windows->Off) 3. Reload the Tweet

This is not a critical issue for me, but I think it's worth mentioning

SVG Display Issue in Firefox Requiring Height Specification

Hello,

I have encountered a recurring issue specifically with Firefox where SVG images fail to display unless a pixel-defined height attribute is explicitly set. This behavior contrasts with other browsers, which handle SVG scaling seamlessly, typically adapting to the specified width or inheriting dimensions from parent elements.

During our website development, primarily through Elementor and leveraging Flexbox in a WordPress environment, this discrepancy becomes evident. The issue persists exclusively in Firefox, confirmed through extensive testing across various browsers and OS's with multiple SVG files and sites.

For diagnostic purposes, I recommend conducting controlled tests with SVG images embedded with our current setup. Set the SVGs to 100% width without defining their height and observe how they render in Firefox compared to other browsers. This should help ascertain whether the behavior in Firefox is anomalous.

I am assuming it may be with the way the markup of the SVG is rendered as it doesn't happen with all SVGs, however, other browsers appear to fix or override whatever is getting in the way from rendering...it is a strange issue.

I have included two images as an example. As you can see in the first image, the SVG isn't rendering (in Firefox) , but does render in Chrome/Safari. It only works when I define a height in px value on Firefox.

Please let me know if further information is required or if any specific steps need to be undertaken to address this issue.

Thank you.

PDFs are shown as empty pages after suspend/resume on linux

Hello, I'm using a document management system (SeedDMS for those who know) through Firefox 122.0.1 (64-bit, canonical 1.0, downloaded from packages.ubuntu.com for focal, running on Debian Bookworm, kernel 6.1.0-17-amd64/Debian 6.1.69-1 x86_64, X.Org X Server 1.21.1.7, KDE Plasma 5.27.5, KDE Framework 5.103.0, QT 5.15.8, i7-5820K, GeForce GTX 1070).

Within this document management system pdf.js (v4.0.379) is being used to preview/view PDF Documents. After starting Firefox the PDF view inside the DMS works fine until I suspend (to memory) and resume my machine. Regular HTML-content looks fine but the resumed DMS session shows only blank (all white) Pages inside the PDF view. Changing to a different PDF file doesn't help. The number and size of these pages is presented correctly. I can even select and copy (invisible) text from these blank PDF pages. The problem applies to all PDFs, whether they're single or multi paged, have images inside them (like with PDFs from a scanner) or not, etc. Reloading the page/closing reopening the affected browser window doesn't help, i.e. the problem persists.

I recently found out, that this also applies to PDF files directly opened inside Firefox (which also seems to use pdf.js as a PDF viewer), that is, this is not related to a specific site like my DMS.

The problem always persists until I kill Firefox and start it over.

Pdf.js seems to use a canvas inside a div (see screenshots attached) to draw the visual PDF content and another div to make the text layer selectable/searchable etc. I don't know what's happening to canvases on a system suspend/resume cycle in Firefox on Linux, but I suspect that's where the problem originates from.

This problem already affected older versions of Firefox and pdf.js.

Please let me know, if you need further information from my side to investigate that issue.

Thanks a lot!

How to find out which Firefox extension caused page issues, like errors, e.g. CSP - Content-Security-Policy: The page’s settings blocked the loading of a resource at inline (“script-src”). ?

SHORT STORY:

I have been able to find extension behind errors shown in dev. console (F12 key) like CSP ones (mouse hover over the link near the error on dev. console (F12 key), Console tab, to see moz-extension://somestring and find first characters of the string at page about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox) But is there any better/easier way to find out web page issue causing extension?

LONG STORY:

Website fails to load (but in a Private window loads OK). F12 key in normal window, Console tab, shows:

SyntaxError: redeclaration of let settings

clicking it, it further show:

abc123-def456-...-...-....:1:1

   <anonymous> blob:moz-extension://8834...

inject resource://gre/modules/ExtensionContent.sys.mjs:581

   AsyncFunctionNext self-hosted:852

when i search for mentioned 8834 (first letters of a long string) at about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox (i get there clicking settings wheel at about:addons and "Debug addons".) then i find Chameleon extension.

So I try to pause extension in its menu, that not helped, but disabling whole extension in about:addons removed errors, yet page still does not load. 4 remaining CSP errors like:

Content-Security-Policy: The page’s settings blocked the loading of a resource at inline (“script-src”). contentScript.js:160:48951 ...

when I mouse hover over the hyperlink "contentScript.js:160:48951" the browser status bar shows extension address and when i memorize first letters of the address and search it at mentioned about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox tab, i find: Phantom (cryptocurrency wallet) Metamask (cryptocurrency wallet) Phantom (cryptocurrency wallet) Violentmonkey (provides userscripts support for browsers - I am using it only for https://github.com/Owyn/HandyImage which is disabled currently)

I have tried to didable all these extensions causing removal of a CSP errors, yet page still does not load in normal browsing window (in private does). Normal browsing window shows only one warning/error:

Source map error: Error: NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource. https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/devtools-user/debugger/source_map_errors/ Resource URL: moz-extension://extension address here/browser-polyfill.min.js Source Map URL: browser-polyfill.min.js.map

when i search for the extension address first letters at mentioned page about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox i find "Textarea Cache", disabling it does not make page load.

After re-enabling disabled extensions and restarting Firefox, page started loading. I suspect (likely wrong) that the python application which is serving local web page in question had exhausted connection limit for the normal browser window/process, but the private browser window process was OK.

What i can do better to discover the causing extension or other cause of failed loading page?

One part of the article I read says the connection issue is due to HTTP, another part of the Article says it is Googles fault due to their HSTS security policy. I have to say Poppycock. I can successfully login to my Gmail on my tablet I just cannot connect to it with my laptop. Firefox itself is refusing to allow the connection. Unfortunately it happens more often than you'd expect. I am in no way or by any means capable of computer repair, but I seem to enjoy tormenting myself with constantly taking apart and rebuildingthis laptop, Took me almost 3 months to finally find out how to stop Firefox address URL bar from highjacking the search bar with that really annoying awesomebar in about:config. But something just seems wrong with the browser on the laptop not being able to connect, but there is no issue with the tablet.

Thank you for any advice or solution that could help me with this. Ive thought about the firefox refresh reset option instead of uninstall reinstall, but if there is a better solution

LasVegasRich@gmail.com Windows 7 Pro PC. Mozilla Firefox. DuckDuckGo search engine. ExpressVPN.

When I try to Forward a gmail post with either a CC: or BCC: Command, my Contacts List doesn't load. Initially, I see an "X" in the right-hand corner

followed in less than a second, by another "X" superimposed over the first one. What might be causing this? I (reluctantly) loaded Google Chrome and made it

my default browser, after which, my Gmail worked properly. Assuming, then, that the problem is being caused by the Firefox connection to the Google servers,

I uninstalled Chrome with the Revo Uninstaller Pro and reviewed the Firefox settings.

My Firefox Extensions are thus: AdBlocker for YouTube, Disable HTML5 Autoplay, DuckDuckGo Maps, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, Enhancer for YouTube,

ExpressVPN, HTTPS Everywhere, LastPass, Malwarebytes, Online PDF Editor, Pinned Google Calendar, Return YouTube Dislike, SponsorBlock for YouTube, Video

DownloadHelper, and YouTube High Definition.

My Security Suite: Windows Defender, Malwarebytes Premium, SuperAntiSpywarePro, CCleaner Pro.

Hi all. I am having a strange issue with Discord. I can get notification sounds and all other media plays fine there. But whenever I try to "speak comment" or set the settings to always speak comments, nothing happens. The tab shows "playing", but no audio comes out, and nothing shows coming through on the mixer.

Chrome does speak as expected. A different computer, same version of Firefox also does speak as expected (in a different voice though). So that narrows it down to something in this particular copy of Firefox that is causing the problem. Plugins, settings and extensions on the two computers look the same. Also tried a different audio interface. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Specs: Windows 10, Firefox 91.0 32 bit (both computers)
