It's not a huge deal but annoying none the less. And hard to explain. When I hover over the Firefox logo in my taskbar, all my open web pages are shown in miniature, which is great. The problem is, each of those small pages is shown at the top of the respective page rather than the position where I was working within them. In other words, I can't just pass my mouse over one of the miniatures and see the page displayed in the position where I was working; all I see is the top of that webpage. To get back to the spot where I had been working, I must actually click on the miniature and go back to that page. When I do, it opens correctly, exactly at the spot where I left it. But this means I have to click on each page to see where I was. So if I have 6 or 8 web pages open, and want to get a quick glance at any one of them, I have to hover then click on the page and go to it. I guess I got spoiled by the way Yahoo used to work; when I hovered over any of the miniatures, I was looking at the location on that page where I was working. I didn't have to actually click on the page to get a quick look. Hope this is making sense. Is there a setting I can adjust?

Documents opening with wrong location displayed

Since the latest upgrade, when I click on a linked document (either in an e-mail or on a webpage) and choose to open it in Firefox, the address on the new tab is file:///… (read more)

Since the latest upgrade, when I click on a linked document (either in an e-mail or on a webpage) and choose to open it in Firefox, the address on the new tab is file:///C:/Users/... rather than the actual URL of the document. This is very problematic for me, I do a lot of newsletter and social media work and I frequently need to be able to share document URLs (they are often sent to me for that purpose). How can I adjust my Firefox settings so clicking on a link takes me to the actual URL? I already changed the Settings / General / Applications selections to Always Ask, and it does always ask, but when I choose "Open with Firefox" I get a file:///C:/Users/... string in the search bar rather than the URL I need.

These are not documents saved on my computer. When I click on an e-mail link to open a document in Firefox, the search bar shows a file:///C:/Users/... string. When I click links on webpages (even links I've posted myself), the document opens in a new tab with a file:///C:/Users/ prefix rather than showing the actual URL. I do a lot of work by sharing online files so this is really messing me up. Prior to the most recent Firefox upgrade, I would always get a shareable URL automatically. I just want the opening mechanism to go back to the way it was.

Would greatly appreciate any tips on how to fix this. Thanks for your help!

We have used FF on various devises for many years. It WAS a stable and reliable browser. Recently it has become an almost constant source of irritation and frustration. Apart from other things, like certificate and site loading issues, often, when we reduce the browser and reopen it all except the home tab disappear. And restore session is always greyed. Yes, we have searched for solutions and tried myriad fixes - none work. We have been forced to defile our macs with chrome. Apple are still lost in the jungle on safari.

Sorry, but you have stuffed up a once great browser. .

While there are "focus"/"background" options in the about.config settings for hyperlinks and bookmarks, I can't find an option to load un-closed tabs (using Ctrl+Shift+T) in the background. Likewise, I can't get new tabs (Ctrl+T or middle-clicking the tab bar) to load in the background. Is there any way of doing this with the existing settings, or would modification of the browser's code be needed?

Firefox upgrades fail to save Tabs and Bookmarks. Consequently, this is not a genuine upgrade but instead is the implementation of a new client. Previously, Firefox upgrades saved both Tabs and Bookmarks. Unfortunately recent upgrades no longer perform this function.

Requiring users to manually (dangerously) search through past Profiles and hopefully select the correct profile to launch in an attempt to restore these two features is burdensome to users. Additionally, when one of many past profiles is selected for launch, Tabs are not restored. Previous Bookmarks are restore under different headings that require new navigation clicks to access.

The first attempt to upgrade installed Firefox 72. After reverting back to the older version and attempting a second upgrade, the new launch was Firefox 100b. Go figure.

As I write this message in a newly upgraded Version 72, I am uncertain as to whether or not to set this as the default version out of fear of not being able to eventually get my Tabs from my older version. So I will revert back to the older version in the hope that I might eventually learn how to defeat this current Firefox Fault.

Thank you for the help and links to instructions to fix this problem that were sent. The steps provided were not clear enough to follow without repeatedly failing to fix the problem. IE: "Restore Session" options did not exist; Tabs were not restored when Bookmarks were restore in a completely modified user interface; the means to determine which of dozens of Profiles to select was not provided.

From all I've seen there is no simple solution for fixing "tabs on bottom/below bookmarks".

Originally there was an option for fixing this in settings.. which is no longer. It used to be there was an extension that also enabled this.. which is no longer.

Which brings us to today -> Version: Firefox 99.0.1 (64 bit)

Everything a person can lookup online only leads back to a very annoying and NOT simple process of editing some kinda file (that no grandma is gonna have any knowledge of how to manage that!) and making even more annoying changes to that file.

Solution that needs to be: FIX IT! FIX IT! FIX IT! - PUT IT BACK MOZILLA!!!

And to whatever "dev(s)" that are responsible for this issue.. I hope your coffee always spills, I hope traffic is nothing but brutal for you, just whatever it takes for you to stop making such dumb changes and sets the example for others to learn from so that it doesn't happen ever again.

If someone else wouldn't mind.. please go make an extension (and keep up with it) to fix this nightmare and end it because we clearly cannot rely upon the simplest of things by these fools.

Firefox has been my default browser since 2004. I have never had a problem with closing a Firefox session with 8-12 open tabs and then re-opening Firefox later and having all the same tabs re-open with the new Firefox session. But now, every time I close and then reopen a Firefox session, it is like I have installed a version update: no tabs are saved. I am not a programmer, I am not interested in looking for obscure files and performing digital surgery. I just want my tabs to open like they have for the last 18 years. In Settings under General my Open Previous Windows And Tabs checkbox is checked. Don't see anything else that is germane. My browser is up to date--latest version.

On my home page, why is it that after the last update that all the tiles showed the same icons except truthsocial which now is blank? It had a funny sorta 'T' tile before the update but now is blank. Funny how that worked out. I look at left/right and Libertarian but this is the only tile that's blank.

Previously I was able to open and close tabs by using the (X) but now I have to right click and choose "close tab" for the first tab that I open. If I have multiple tabs open, I can still close the rest normally. Is there a setting that I am overlooking? This is most aggravating. This is the only browser that I have issues with and it started some time in the last year.

I'm in Windows 11. FF 101.0.1 64 bit.

In Edge Chrome when I drag a tab from my 1st monitor to my 2nd one, it opens a new window from that TAB on the desired monitor, in Firefox it merely makes another tab on the original monitor and maximizes it over the top of the original window.

Maybe there is a setting? Or an ADD-ON That fixes this? OR is this a FIREFOX limitation??

EDIT: The ISSUE is I want to have VERTICAL TABS in FIREFOX so I have to resort to using TAB CENTER REBORN and this does not support moving tabs to another monitor.

Hey there, I've had a few tabs pinned over the past few weeks for things that need to be done. However I had two windows open and I closed the one with the pins before the 2nd window. Recently closed windows is empty and restore previous session restored the session from yesterday rather than the one just closed. Is there anything else I can do or are the pins gone? Thanks
