I'm getting the following error message:

The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem.

I don't know what prompted this concern on my Windows 11-based laptop, but I only noticed this last night doing some research for another issue. I don't have any of my bookmarks showing up in the bookmarks section, nor will it allow me to click the star on any tab to bookmark the page. I have restarted and shut down my laptop several times and this is not solving the concern. Let me know if you need more information or if I need to start this inquiry again elsewhere, but again it sounds like the same concern.

I have included a screenshot of the exact error for accuracy's sake. Like everyone else here, I'm trying to get my bookmark and history access back up and running but not sure how to go about it.

I couldn't get past the first fix suggestion because I am not sure how to restart Firefox (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?as=u&utm_source=inproduct&redirectslug=The+bookmarks+and+history+system+will+not+be+functional&redirectlocale=en-US). I have restarted my laptop several times but the issue still persists.

Please advise.

Ironically, I am not having this issue on my older PC that is still operating on Windows 10. I can view history and access or add bookmarks with no concern to my knowledge.

Roughly one third of my bookmarks all changed to sites I have visited recently. They still have the same labels, but when I click on them, they just take me to some random site I've visited recently.

Adresáre by sa mali automaticky radiť ako v stromovej štruktúre pc teda prve v poradí a za nimi voľné odkazy na weby. Adresáre majú nadradenú funkciu.Tvoria skupinu pre odkazy na stránky s podobným obsahom. Preto by mali byť pri vytvorení adresára radené na začiatok zoznamu a nie na konci. Pri 1000 odkazoch na stránky je to dlhý zoznam kým ho nájdem na konci aby som urobil drag and drop a preniesol na lištu z odkazmi do viditeľnej časti na browseri. Môže to niekto opraviť? Táto možnosť radenia adresárov nieje. Iba radenie odkazov podľa abecedy v zozname alebo iné možnosti na jednej úrovni pre všetky súbory. Ocenil by som radenie podľa typu teda adresáre spolu a odkazy spolu,či budú na začiatku alebo na konci teda poradie, a možnosť abecedného radenia pri zachovaní Typu súborov. Adresáre by mohli mať aj priradenú farbu. Ďakujem

my bookmark bar disappered suddenly and all my tabs are gone. i tried to bookmark a new tab but it would not let me. and i didnt do anything different. opened my laptop today and i had to restore all tabs, and my bookmark bar is gone and all my shortcuts from bookmarks are gone too

To eliminate multiple problems (including disappearance of bookmarks) in desperation I uninstalled and cleared out all remnants of FF, then installed a new FF. Fortunately I had recently imported all the stuff FF more recently lost into MS Edge so I used the FF feature to import from MS Edge. However, every effort to import my bookmarks failed. So I used MS Edge's ability to create a HTML file of my bookmarks and then in FF used the "import a HTML file" feature to get them into FF. However, FF fails to recognize my bookmarks as bookmarks. It lists them in a "Favorites Bar" which cannot be strewn horizontally across the top of my screen as did my bookmarks in the past nor be viewed as bookmarks.

So HOW can I get FF to change the "Favorites" into Bookmarks?

All of a sudden I cannot save bookmarks. Neither the instruction "To bookmark a page, just click on the star in the address bar." or using the "Bookmark Current tab..." in the Bookmarks menu do anything. Trying either method just sits there and does nothing.

Firefox has been my default browser for many years. Every update has made the program less user friendly. I can no longer ready access shortcuts and the number of tiles has been greatly reduced. Previously I had a row of shortcuts on the bookmark toolbar. They no longer show up. Sadly Google does everything I appreciated Firefox for. So Chrome is now my default browser. I have no idea why Mozilla decided to change their once great browser into a total loser.

I realized that all the bookmarks I had saved for years are now missing when I search using the browser. I did find them in other locations, but how can I see specific bookmarks that are missing?

I have been with Mozilla since Netscape 1. Recently, I have been unable to add or delete a bookmark or folder. A number of previous bookmarks have lost their icons and their content. The Bookmark "Star" turns blue, indicating that it has been bookmarked. When I look for it in the designated folder it is not there. I try to edit garbled bookmark URLs by substituting the new URL - does not work. There are a number of folders for categories of bookmarks and I cannot delete them. What can be done?

I have tried to bookmark websites recently and cannot. Once the star in the web address turns blue the pop up scree will appear. I hit the save button and the website does not bookmark in the file created for say 'news' bookmarks. I tried with other websites/bookmark files. Nothing seems to be happening.
