Hello! See the screenshot please: so, I downloaded à pay-bill, with Firefox (under ubuntu), in private navigation, and I get the file with a padlock-symbol at the end. What means that? What means that for me (on my computer), what means that for à friend, when I sent him the pdt-file (can he open it?). Nota: I understood that I can choose between "delete downloads when closing the privat window" or not. And I choosed not to delete them (but there appears this padlock-symbol). Thanks for your help! This setting, "Always ask you where to save files," is definitely broken.

Proposed solution: "I believe you also need to go into Tools -> Settings -> General and set the Action for the types of downloads (Applications) to Always Ask for those types you want it to."

But this workaround should not be needed. "Always ask" means always ask. As in always. No other additional steps should be needed.

Can you folks please open a bug to get this fixed? This used to work just fine in (much) older versions of Firefox and Netscape. "Always ask" is supposed to mean always ask. Like, always.

Whether the file is opened internally or directly downloaded to the desktop, the file name will be automatically changed to garbled text。This led to me manually correcting the file name to be correct every time I downloaded, and my installation of the "Download File Name Encoding" plugin was also ineffective.

As you can see always ask where to save is selected but whenever I download a PDF file it doesn't ask me and it just saves to downloads. How can I fix that?

A couple of years ago the down-loader was not working very well until I found a Beta version and has worked well for you tube . Now a lot of videos when played back are in another language that sounds like French , not sure. my settings are on English and so are you tubes. It has been happening the most when I download Affinity designer tutorials new and old version of affinity . When I listen to the video I'm downloading on you tube it's English as soon as its done downloading its in another language.

I have "Always ask you where to save files" checked but when I save a file I don't get asked where to save the file and it's going into Downloads. I didn't have this issue before. Something isn't working right since the last few updates.

Why would the developers of Firefox remove the ability to select where an attachment can be saved?

This is like going back to the dark ages of web browsing.

I receive many attachments for my job, I don't want them all to save in the same location. It's a pain to have to retrieve them from my "Downloads" (or whatever) folder, to put them where they belong. This is not a small thing. It's a real pain to have everything go to the same location.

Other browsers allow you to choose where to save a particular file. I think Firefox used to allow that, too. Why would you change this?

I use Firefox for my work emails, but I think I will need to switch to another browser. 

I support a number of people in my job. I have been recommending Firefox to use. That will stop now.

Hi. I'd like to know that there is a way to stop download torrent files and just let my torrent client /qbittorrent/ handle it. Even after i set it to open them with qbittorrent Firefox still downloads those files. I mean can delete them manually, but it is quite annoying.

If i want Firefox browser to download the xpi file and save it locally when I click on the download link button for the xpi file, instead of installing it as an add-on. What should I do?

I get emails with attachments that I often can't open. I am very NON-tech savvy. It seems jpg opens fairly easily. I got a statement that opened easily, but MANY photo attachments with only "?" - no "jpg" - asked me where to file them, how to name them. I don't know before seeing the attachment. It bothers me to have to call service providers repeatedly and ask them to send things in different formats. Google tells me I can set Mozilla preferences to always open automatically, but now, with AI, I got redirected. Your help will be appreciated!

I downloaded a syllabus from my online class but I can not open the file a drop box appears and asking what should firefox do with the file. I attached a screenshot of what happened when I attempted to open file. Can you please help me with this issue?

Its REALLY annoying that I have to manually go to my downloads every time I download a pdf to move it to the correct folder. Especially when I already have Firefox set to "always ask" when downloading a file. I don't need EVERY thing I download to go to a specific folder. I sort things as I download them. Its just REALLY annoying that Google does this ONE thing so much better and Firefox used to allow me to save things wherever I wanted them every time I downloaded. Super freaking annoying.
