I just updated to FF 111.0. After restarting FF comes up but then nothing. After a bit of I got the option to force close it. I tried opening a Private Browser and that worked fine so I figured it was one of my add-ons. However after closing the Private Browser and trying opening normally again it worked just fine. Disable all of my add-ons and for the same issue.

Renamed my AppData/Roaming/Mozilla folder and starting as normal worked fine. What a giant pain in the <bleep> trying to set everything back up.

Performed some more science and noticed this. After setting my Mozilla folder back, starting FF, and looking at the TaskManager, There would be 3 processes, one of those after a bit of time would show in red as Not Responding (or words to that effect). Clicking the window a few times to get the force close dialog again. Trying to open FF again, it opened just fine.

So I'm tempted to blame something in the update that is causing this. Yes, I could just start with a fresh Mozilla folder and reinstall all of my add-ons and blah blah blah, but whose to say that after setting everything back up the way I had it the problem won't come back.

I have thought about rolling back to FF 110.0.1, and suppressing the update check.

So yesterday, March 14th, we had a major snow storm which caused a power outage. When I finally got power back I now notice I can't open firefox without it just staying as a white screen (freeze). I can start it fine in safe more (hold shift and click on the icon). I just can't start it in normal mode.

My computer is using Windows 7.

What I've tried so far: 1) In safe mode I disabled every extension. Theme is already default. 2) Turned off hardware acceleration. 3) Cleared Startup Cache 4) Deleted Firefox from C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox and installed the latest version which seems to have installed it in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

Observations: 1) Changing the default user profile to a clean profile loads firefox fine. Switching it to my original profile causes it to freeze on load again. This leads me to believe that it's something to do with my profile. Possibly a corrupt file? 2)There are no error reports that I can find. 3) I noticed there was a firefox update rolled out on the 14th. Not sure if that has anything to do with this.

I've really like to not have to start a new profile. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks!

Yesterday I left work and my computer on with several Firefox tabs open. Today I came in and Firefox was closed. Double clicking the icon on my desktop, or on the icon in the taskbar gives the small circle loading symbol next to the mouse for about a second. But no browser window opens. There is no indication in the Task Manager that a Firefox browser is open.

I have attempted to restart my computer several times. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I have tried updating Firefox. I have checked that all my drivers on the computer are up to date. I have run a Malwarebytes virus scan on my computer. I cannot get Firefox to open to check any other settings. I have tried to open Firefox on another account on the same computer and it also results in the same thing.

If anyone has any ideas that might fix this, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. Computer is a Dell OptiPlex 5070 running Windows 10.

Firefox for OSX has been having a problem with opening in a new tab for some time (since version 98 or something). First, you can have, for example, 5-6 tabs open, then suddenly opening 7th it hangs and does not open the address. Refreshing it, the address disappears and the tab is still empty, there is also no previously visible http address. Closing this tab causes every next one to freeze. Closing another (one of previously open) doesn't change the situation, but closing two sometimes let opens another, but only one. After several attempts, we have to close another one, and so after several attempts, we have 1 open active and no possibility to open a new tab and the address contained in it. It doesn't matter if it's from favorites, google search or manually typed. The only thing that helps is to force the browser to install the old version ( 96 ) then everything returns to normal. Allowing an update to 101 or later will prevent you from using Firefox after a few minutes. Current version 111 and same problem.

Several times a day, for no apparent reason, the Firefox window will go blank, as shown in the attached screenshots. It goes back to normal seemingly when I move my cursor. More rarely, when this happens, I get a Windows notification with the message "Application firefox.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware". I suspect the two things are related.

My graphics card might be relevant; it's an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER.

Hello, so i have a hp laptop running on windows 11. I have 2 different wifi sources here at my home, one of them is a DSL zyxel modem from century link & the other is a Verizon internet gateway that runs off of cell towers. I recently logged into both of them to configure some of the settings etc. and in the past when i only had the DSL wifi, i would log into it via file explorer>network>network interface and then select the router & would automatically be taken to the login page. For the verizon wifi, i had to go into the browser searchbar ,while being connected to that network, and enter the default IP address of 192.168.0.1 and it would take me to the login page. I first logged into the DSL network and then for the first time ever, into the verizon one, and now when i try to login to the DSL network via my traditional method & also by inputting its IP address into the searchbar (both routers have the same default address to access setup), it takes me to the verizon login page regardless if im connected to it or not. If i input the DSL modems IP address into Edge browser while connected to it, it takes me to the correct login page for that network which leads me to believe that somehow something is messed up with my firefox browser. Ive already tried going into the saved passwords and deleting the saved verizon login info. Any other ideas as to what it could be? Thanks, JD

Hello, all.

For years now, I've been facing the same issue and it is: Firefox breaksdown and becomes chaos during every update. What do I mean by 'during every update'?. I'll explain how I use firefox and what happens.

I am writing code that is tracking data from a websocket connection. That's why I leave Firefox open all the time, just for tests, to see how my web app would react to different situations. At some there is a Firefox Update. It downloads and installs it, but never actually notifies me when anything of that is happening. Here is the magic - I always know when there was a new version just installed. How? Firefox performance drops, weird and unexpected behaviour and it just becomes chaotic and sluggish until I restart. so I was looking at the console logs of the app that I am developing and after. All of a sudden, I start getting a "SyntaxError: redeclaration of let settings" or something like that (wish I had saved it). The error did not come from my code as I haven't use any 'lets' in my JS code. That SyntaxError was quite specific and I just noticed it in the last update, but the performance drop issue has been there for years now. Maybe that syntaxError was not specific to my app, but on a lower level. I have to keep observing, but I wanted to report it here. Every time there is an update (not a specific one) and I'm using firefox at the same time - I instantly notice the difference. I know, all I need to do is restart the browser and it works fine, but do we really want our browser to behave like that? Do we really want our work to be interrupted by an update that can wait until I restarted my PC? Windows 10 has the same issue. "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR HOW IMPORTANT YOUR STUFF TO YOU IS! HERE IS AN UPDATE THAT WILL BREAK EVERYTHING AND YOU ARE FORCED TO RESTART". I know, I should review my firefox update settings, but these are the default firefox settings firefox comes with and it happens even on a clean install. There are people who would be like... *getting my werid acting voice out* "Oh, this browser has become so slow all of a sudden. Let me try Chrome. OMG! YES! IT'S FASTER!! I'll stick to that".

I did not keep any other issue, since i just closed the browser and did not bother to open it again. I opened it this morning and there was little update window. That makes me think now.. Does the update installation happen before I restart the browser or after? If the installation happens after the browser is clsoed, that would mean just the download itself breaks the browser.

I have a few addons active, but as I mentioned earlier, this happens even when there is an update after a clean install. Thanks for your time reading this. when I this happens again, I will try to gather more data and will update or post a comment under this post. Can anyone suggest any good way to pinpoint the cause? Thanks!

We are using firefox on Redhat 7 workstations and, when we first open firefox and attempt to load a web address it takes 25-30 seconds to connect.

After that first attempt, web addresses load almost instantly.

Our systems are only connected to a local network and not the internet, if that makes a difference. Also, we are using web addresses and not IP addresses. When I try by Ip address it's much faster, but I get the security risk warning for the ssl cert. So I'm not sure if my issue is something between firefox and dns, or if it has to do with the SSL certs? Both dns and ssl are handled by Red Hat IDM.

We are seeing the same behavior on all of our workstations.

Hello,

Anyone else having a problem with firefox breaking itself and refusing to load any more pages till you forcibly close it? Open as many new tabs as you want, it will never ever load a new page. Open new firefox windows, still won't load anything. Open edge, chrome or IE and it will instantly load whatever page you want.

Close all the firefox windows and try and start a new one, firefox tells you it's still running and needs to be forcibly closed. Everything back to normal as soon as you do so, besides loosing literally everything you were doing.

I used to just think it was hackaday.io, but it's now clear it's entirely at random when it happens.

This is clearly a firefox issue that's been happening for at least 6 months or more. I've about had it, and am about to start looking for alternatives.
