I prefer to update Firefox manually, so in my Firefox settings, I have it set to: "Check for updates but let you choose to install them".

So I sometimes get a message when I launch Firefox saying "Update available. Download the latest version of Firefox." and I click "Dismiss"

Today, I launched Firefox (v107.0), got this update message, and clicked "Dismiss". However, when I go to About Firefox, it says "Firefox is being updated by another instance".

Why is Firefox ignoring my preference?

Codesigning breaks after install

When I copy Firefox.app from the dmg to the applications folder, the app is no longer codesigned. x@x ~ % /usr/bin/codesign -vv -r- /Volumes/Firefox/Firefox.app /Volume… (read more)

When I copy Firefox.app from the dmg to the applications folder, the app is no longer codesigned.

x@x ~ % /usr/bin/codesign -vv -r- /Volumes/Firefox/Firefox.app /Volumes/Firefox/Firefox.app: valid on disk /Volumes/Firefox/Firefox.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement

x@x ~ % /usr/bin/codesign -vv -r- /Applications/Firefox.app /Applications/Firefox.app: a sealed resource is missing or invalid file modified: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Resources/update-settings.ini file modified: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Resources/defaults/pref/channel-prefs.js

I literally just drag it from one finder window to the other.

The reason I discovered this is because when I set a firewall rule in Little Snitch, I have to modify it and deselect 'check process identity' because it says Firefox.app code signature status is "Resource or signature modified".

When I discovered the issue I deleted firefox and downloaded the latest version. Codesign is fine on the downloaded disk image, but broken after i copy it to applications.

Is this expected behaviour?

The solution of physically copying the Profiles folder seems to be officially endorsed by Mozilla but when I tried it, FF failed to start up displaying an error message that it could not find my profile and closing. I am trying to set up a new PC for my wife's exclusive use, so the Profiles folder in question was from a shared PC with both of us having our own user accounts. The new PC doesn't have multiple user accounts, so I wondered if this might be something to do with it?

I can provide copies of the two Profiles folders but the original is quite big!

Thanks in advance, Simon

I am currently having problems with my Firefox browser. For example often if I type something into the google search box at the right of the address bar and hit return nothing happens until I go down and select Bing instead of the google setting. Also in hotmail (I am on a desktop) if I go to reply, the original is now ether twice. This does not happen if I use Google browser. But I prefer Firefox as I have used it for years.

My concern is if I delete Firefox and reinstall it, I may lose some of the settings or bookmarks that I have set over the years.

Any suggestions? Please simple as i am old and not computer savvy.

Your help would be so appreciated. I am currently on Firefox 107.0 (64 bit)

Thanks, Anthony
