When assigning a URL to the mediaplayer object it started appending the current path to the URL. Did not do that in prior version. You can see it automatically puts the current browsing URL and then the URL that is assigned. So the file will not load. Hello Firefox Support,

I’m encountering a strange issue with Firefox. While playing YouTube videos at very low quality (144p) just to listen to music, my GPU usage spikes to 100%. This happens even when the video is not fullscreen and there’s minimal visual content.

System Info:

   Firefox Version: 140.0.2 (64-bit)
   Operating System: Windows 11
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 8700F (no integrated GPU)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE
GPU Driver Version: AMD Adrenalin 25.6.1

The issue goes away when I disable hardware acceleration in Firefox settings, but I’d prefer to leave it enabled for better performance elsewhere.

Is this a known issue with AMD GPUs or is there something else I can try to reduce GPU usage during playback?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Mozilla Community,

I’ve been experiencing some issues with video playback on Firefox, specifically on YouTube. Videos seem to always play in a choppy manner, no matter the quality settings. I’ve tried clearing the cache and updating Firefox, but the issue persists. I’ve also checked my internet speed, and it's stable, so I'm not sure where the problem lies.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Any suggestions on what might be causing the choppy playback or how to fix it?

To give some context, I was also recently looking at how efficient high-speed trains operate around the world, and came across a fascinating comparison of the top 10 fastest trains in India. Just like video streaming, maintaining high performance and smooth operation is key — it made me realize how even small optimizations in streaming might have a big impact on the experience.

I appreciate any help or insights from the community!

Thank you!

It would be cool if you guys added a display to control the volume of a certain tab (like YouTube that people often use to play music while doing other things) AND add a feature that when a new media starts playing it stops the other one (like on Opera GX, the browser I came from). This would be really helpful and immersive since the user wouldn't have to deal with sounds collision and focus on his thing, not interrupting his flow to mute a music or a podcast or whatever. Also if you guys could add this feature, let the users choose between two options: pause (which completely pauses the background media) or fade-to-mute (which quickly fades the background audio until it is completely muted, but not paused. When the principal media stops playing, it will fade in again).

Note: the following is an editted version. 20250706 13:02

when i MUTE some tabs (using the native FF tab mute icon on the tab) sound is muted for just that tab. HOWEVER, it also mutes ALL SYSTEM sounds.

This occurs both with my regular profile and using a default profile for my version (which has NO ADDONS).

It seems to depend on the type of delivery of the music. (Or something!)

This occurs for the following URLs:

   https://14223.live.streamtheworld.com/WRTI_CLASSICAL.mp3
   https://areena.yle.fi/podcastit/ohjelmat/57-llL6Y4blL

However, rather interestinly, it DOES NOT OCCUR for the "standard" WRTI radio station:

   https://www.wrti.org/classical-playlist-search
it seems UNREASONABLE THAT A WEB SITE SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXERT ANY CONTROL upon system sounds. So, I must presume this is a FF bug; however, I have not posted it as such (having no confirmation from others).

I often listen to streaming audio over my AV system, when my TV/monitor is off. After I turn it on while listening, the audio speeds up! (This happens on various streams, and YouTube, so it's not a particular site. It doesn't happen on another browser, so, apparently it's not my computer.) Is this just some bug?

Using Windows 10, an Nvidia GTX 1080, and a Panasonic VSX-40 receiver, connected by HDMI.

I recently got a new stereo receiver and have been seeing problems with the HDMI connection. The the image becomes discolored and green at times and stays that way until the receiver is restarted or the input is switched off HDMI and back.

After extensive troubleshooting (replacing cables, updating drivers, testing to reproduce the problem) I have determined that Firefox is the issue.

Playing a youtube video or a twitch stream has a small chance of causing the error. Mousing over a tab with a video in it causes the error almost 100% of the time. The same videos and streams do not cause these problems in Google Chrome.

I have disabled hardware acceleration in Firefox settings and that has solved the issue, but now I have the problem that Firefox is not using hardware acceleration. It scrolls poorly and generally sucks to use this way.

Is there a way to change the way Firefox displays these videos without disabling hardware acceleration completely? Chrome renders them without causing issues, and I've been unable to trigger this error in any way outside of Firefox.

What the title says. Firefox just isn't playing any sound whatsoever.

Troubleshooting:

  • Volume mixer indicates that Firefox is using my speakers, along with all other apps. When playing a YouTube video, the green bar is not bouncing. However, all other programs that play sound do so successfully and their green bars are bouncing (see attachment).
  • Other web browsers play sound successfully.
  • Restarting Firefox and my computer did not help.
  • Switching the default sound device and changing back did not help.
  • Changing to headphones made no change.
  • Tabs are not muted.
  • Autoplay settings in about:preferences showed that audio and video were disabled, however changing this setting to allow video and audio, then restarting both Firefox and the computer did not fix the problem. I have no idea how that setting was even changed to begin with. O_o
  • Started Firefox in troubleshooting mode; still no sound.
  • Started Firefox in a different profile; still no sound.
  • Started Firefox in private mode; still no sound.
  • Tried ending the audiodg.exe process in task manager and restarted; still no sound.
  • Double checked media.autoplay.blocking_policy, was set to 0.
  • Double checked media.block-autoplay-until-in-foreground -- changed from true to false, restarted Firefox; still no sound.
  • Disabled hardware acceleration; still no sound.
  • Refreshed Firefox; still no sound.
  • Complete uninstall, including the usage of BCUninstaller to uninstall "leftovers". Reinstalled. Still no sound.

I have Apollo installed on my computer and I've reached out to them before for similar issues, but the dev was insistent that Apollo does not cause sound issues. I'm somewhat sceptical, but they're not being helpful at all so I thought I'd ask here, and disclose usage of Apollo so that all bases are covered.

Thank you for your time.
