Hello! I am using Firefox ESR in Linux Mint 18.3 32-bit. For convenience, a few years ago I've created a start menu (main menu) shortcut to quickly open a Private Browsing window. Before the recent switch from ESR branch 78 to 91 this shortcut was working as intended, but now, it opens a Private Browsing window and a regular browsing window. Here, I've made a short video about this issue that should help to better explain everything https://youtu.be/ccioyh0gJxA https://youtu.be/ccioyh0gJxA To some, this might seem like a non-issue, but I'd like to have a shortcut that would allow me to launch a Private Browsing window and a Private Browsing window alone.

Opening up firefox last week am a message saying something was wrong/couldn't proceed (I don't remember the exact text). I tried to delete the message, but it just came back every time blocking opening firefox. I tried to restart it, but the same blocking message reappeared. I then uninstalled it and all my files disappeared, of course. I've today reinstalled it, but no history, etc.. How can I get my original web files back? Do you have a 30 day grace period where any file can be restored like the one Microsoft has? Can I get my webfiles back at all? Please help. tmr W10 64bit

When receiving the following messages when accessing a specific URL.

Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to xyz. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.

Then clicking on the Advanced... button at the bottom of the popup window.

And then clicking on the Accept the Risk and Continue button.

My question is does Firefox make any changes to Internet Options or anywhere else, including within Firefox to change configurations of any type when the Accept the Risk and Continue button is clicked on?

Thank you!

Hello, After one of the last updates of november I started having 20-50 processes for each firefox profile that I use. In previous versions I used 'browser.tabs.remote.autostart' and 'browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2' and set them to false, to limit the number of processes. But now, even though I removed these configurations, I have no option to control how much RAM and processes firefox uses - the option to set the content processes is missing from the settings page too. Another thing that I noticed is that for some reason, in most of my profiles, container tabs can't be enabled.

Hope you can help, Rotem.

After reading up on procedures (but failing to follow links), I decided to completely delete all my passwords. Let me back up a minute, last week I downloaded the .csv file of my passwords, because after 10 or 12 years, I needed to clean them up. I had 486 saved passwords, out of which I deleted all but 123. I did not want to try that in the browser, actually I did, but after about 20 I gave up because I realized how long it would take.

So anyway, I got ready to finish up, and I deleted my browser copy, then tried to upload the corrected copy. However every time I get an error "Something went wrong try again". So as my plan was, I deleted my Chrome passwords (they should be the same), then uploaded the corrected copy. It said "Upload successful" or somethiing like that, I waited five minutes, for Chrome to finish syncing and all that, then tried to import from Chrome, it imported 3 passwords.

But now, here's the big problem, I follow the directions I have found in this site, but once I click the hamburger, the next link does not exist. When I go another way, none of the links exist. I have searched all over the settings pages, and nowhere is there the option to upload a .csv file, I can import from another browser all day, but not upload. So what's going on?

There are several requests similar to mine, mostly about Windows 7 (i have windows 10). I made sure the "general settings" within Adobe were set to use Acrobat as default, and i set firefox options (as near as i could tell) to save my pdf's with Adobe acrobat also. However, ALL my files - both already saved and new pdf's - now are listed as filetype "Firefox HTML.pdf" and all have the html icon. For my husband's business, we have to fill out state forms in pdf and forward copies to them and to clients. My clients are frustrated and confused that they cannot recognize the pdf's i sent by the original icons, and some don't seem to understand how to open the "html" files i send them (most of our clients probably use other browsers: when they showed up as straight adobe files this was never a problem) I need to fix BOTH my stored pdf forms AND new fillable forms from the state as filename.pdf with the adobe icon. PLEASE!!

When Firefox asks if I want to download an update and I agree, soon after that but not right away it stops working - on every new page it says "We need to restart to finish updating" <- This last bit is VERY annoying. Is there a way to keep FF working in such situation? I usually have 3 FF profiles running, about 10-20 tabs each and when it suddenly does this - I can restart them all but when it is suitable for me.

The only solution I can see so far is disabling updates via group policies (which is not well documented, where do i put this policies.json on Fedora? need to google that).

Any other ways to keep updates and FF running until I decide when to restart? Thanks.

When I read content on a web page, I like to use the up and down arrows and PgUp PgDn to go through it. I hate having to reach over for the mouse and line everything up to go to the next screen. Since the last update, it seems I can't do that. When I hit the down arrow, or the PgDn key, it skips randomly down the page. This is especially true if I am reading an article with pictures in it. I think this might have something to do with my clicking yes to an inquiry from Firefox that just appeared on the page while I was browsing. It asked whether I wanted to be able to block text with keyboard commands. I'd like to change it back to whatever it was before, but can't figure out how to do that. Bill

I believe this started with 94.0.2 but could be 94.0.1. Looking at various things in Easysnews.com, for instance thumbnails, the title for that item used to change from blue (Unvisted Links) to brown (Visited Links) and keep the brown color until I exited Easynews. Now it does not. In another case, looking at my list of favorite groups, the group name will turn brown as long as my mouse is over it but it will not stick if I select that item.

I am not using system colors and Override the colors specified by the page with your selections above is set to Only With High Contrast themes. I tried the other two choices but they really created a mess.

I have also tried deleting any easynews cookies to no effect.

I have yet another issue to present that I am 100% certain that the developers bear 100% responsibility as a result of releases 96.0 and 96.01. There is a 0% margin for error on this assessment.

I am not presenting this issue because I require personal assistance. I haven’t done a damn thing wrong. I am presenting this issue, so that it would potentially get noticed by or forwarded to one of the developers, or by a user that happens to relay this issue to them.

I am using Windows 7. Therefore, I am uncertain if the issue extends to Windows 10 and 11. The issue does not affect the browser’s functionality.

In my Windows appearance settings, I have always chosen to have a pale yellow color for the background. It relieves the harshness of the white colored background when I am typing in Word for extended hours. I have had this setting for years and never altered it.

Since 96.0, they finally fixed the Bookmarks lag issue, which was pertinent to Windows 7 users. The Bookmarks issue began as of 92.0. I raised that issue as well, and called out the developers as being solely responsible for that. Unfortunately, whatever the developers did in the 96.0 and 96.01 updates, my pale yellow background setting is now appearing on specific websites that must have a clear background in some parts. In other words, those backgrounds used to appear as white on these specific websites. Here are two examples of commonly-used websites that now are displaying my background color setting instead of white. The NCAA football website and the BBC website.

https://www.ncaa.com/sports/football/fbs

https://www.bbc.com/news

As stated in my Bookmarks complaint, there is a blatant absence of any methodical thought process by its development team. They release far too many updates in any given year. Between the 96.0 and 96.0.1 was less than 24 hours. That’s how you know that these people are clueless what they are doing. Then you have this newly introduced issue as a result of fixing others as of 96.0. It’s a very sad state of affairs over at Mozilla. It appears to be a hopeless situation.

If I wanted my background appearance setting to appear on all websites, all I would have to do is set the “Override the colors specified by the page with your selections above” to “ALWAYS”. I have double checked the color settings in Firefox and confirm that my settings have not altered from default. The override… setting is set to “Only with high contrast themes” and the background color is set to white.

The issue that I just presented is 100% on the developers. Don’t even bother trying to challenge it. I was spot-on with the Bookmarks assessment on blame as well. I only provide accurate assessments on blame.

Here’s some advice for the Mozilla developers. Why not fix this issue and kindly spare us with any further updates for the remainder of the year. You people are doing a pathetic job.

This may be a Windows 7 issue only.

Hello.

Up until recently, I could click a link to a locally stored Python source file (.py extension) and it would display as a plain text file in Firefox. This is what I want; e.g., it is a way that I view my notes, refer to examples, and so on.

Starting a few days ago, when I click such a link, I now get a pop-up window with the two options "Open with" or "Save file." I have tried a number of things to get back to the old behavior, including deleting the handlers.json file in my Profile folder, running a full Refresh, and creating a new profile. None of these got me back to the old behavior: displaying the .py file as plain text.

If I set the "Open with" option in that pop-up window to Firefox, I just keep getting the pop-up over and over again, while a new tab is created each time.

Note: if I look at a .py file on GitHub, there is no problem: again, the file just displays.

I suspected this behavior is connected with my having installed the latest version of Python (3.9.6) a few days ago, and I just confirmed this by updating Python on another machine. That is, on the other machine, the .py file would display as plain text until just now, after I update Python there.

So, I believe the Python installation is the cause of the problem, but, nonetheless, it seems to me that I should be able to set (or unset?) something within Firefox to make .py files open as plain text, as they used to.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

When I want a URL, I type it in the address bar. Search has no relevance to a URL, and any intervention of Search gets in the way, and creates errors.

When I click in the search bar, it's because I want a keyword search with one of the search engines. A search is not a URL.

They are two completely different things, and treating either one as the other is error. I do not want Firefox to kidnap my cursor and teleport it to somewhere I didn't click. They are two entirely different spaces, they are not interchangeable. When I click in the search bar, it's because I want a search. Don't you dare second guess me and change my click to the address bar.

How do I turn off this stupid stupid stupid error behavior of FIrefox?

I tried this and it didn't work. In about:config • keyword.enabled and toggle it from True to False. • browser.fixup.alternate.enabled and toggle it from True to False.
