When Firefox asks if I want to download an update and I agree, soon after that but not right away it stops working - on every new page it says "We need to restart to finish updating" <- This last bit is VERY annoying. Is there a way to keep FF working in such situation? I usually have 3 FF profiles running, about 10-20 tabs each and when it suddenly does this - I can restart them all but when it is suitable for me.

The only solution I can see so far is disabling updates via group policies (which is not well documented, where do i put this policies.json on Fedora? need to google that).

Any other ways to keep updates and FF running until I decide when to restart? Thanks.

Hi

to ALL Firefox admins and programmers.....

I think Im speaking for most people when I say this......

PUT THE DAMN TABS !!!!!BELOW!!!! the address bar already!!

People have been begging you to do this for ******* years!!!

Stop being such a**holes and make it like this BY DEFAULT FOREVER! And add a simple option in the setting that always allows the user to put the tabs above or below....but I know most people want this always BELOW!!!

Fix this issue PLEASE it pisses soooo many people off having the tabs above the address bar. ...Also when I double click on the empty space beside the tabs it just shrink the open window.....change this so double clicking on the empty area OPENS A NEW TAB...

Signed a VERY pissed off user!

Hello, We run a website that uses a bookmarklet button which allows us to capture the current URL location and save it. This is placed on the Tool Bar where its easy for a user to use. Until now, its been working perfectly but with this latest update to FireFox we are seeing the pop-up blocking being activated with the yellow message bar at the top. Now this would be ok if we only had to allow the pop up once (by clicking allow site), but unfortunately the bookmarket button has to be able to work on all sites, which is the whole point of the button. So its impractical to keep allowing it every time its used. Disabling the pop-up blocker completely then works, but then the browser is open to other pop-ups. Is there any way to allow bookmarklets to display a pop up and not display a pop-up message? Without having to disable the entire pop-up functionality. Can the FF developers allow for user placed bookmarklets to not be pop-up blocked. Maybe an exception added for that. They are placed manually by the user so are allowed by the user only.

Thanks for reading. Paul.

This is less of a question than it is negative feedback.

The new print experience allows me to enter a page scale, but it removed the previous ability to pick a page scale from a drop-down. It also closes as soon as the print is compete, retaining the manually entered scale.

Here's my old process: Load the page that needs 70% scale. Set the scale from drop-down. Print. Return the scale to 100% from drop-down. Close. The next page does not require any special attention, it will print from a single button push.

New process: Load the page that needs 70% scale. Open "more settings." Remove hands from mouse to type in 70. Print. Next page now requires undoing the first. Open page that needs 100% scale, open "more settings", remove hands from mouse to type in 100. Print.

The old process took 3 extra clicks. The new process takes 6 extra clicks plus moving hands to the keyboard. Talk about a "first world problem!" Nevertheless, there was no need to take something that was working well and make it less functional.

With the new v85 of Firefox... for Microsoft Print to PDF...

the defaults for print headers & footers has changed and is no longer available to edit or even view. It seems as though my settings remain in place for other printing options like my physical printer but even there the options are not editable or viewable.

There used to be a "page setup" option but I have not be able to find this anywhere anymore.

I'm assuming that it has to do with the bug fix for pdf printing but doesn't seem that it should be an intended outcome of the fix.

Any work arounds anyone knows about or has found?

Firefox colour addon removed the whole existing theme, replaced everything with it's default selections.

I use a custom theme, I just want to change the text colours on the menu bar, tab bar and bookmark bar. But the color addon destroyed the whole theme when I made any single change. I had disable and enable the theme to restore it. How do I import the theme to color addon so I can edit it?

I'm trying to take off this "Extension (Tabliss)" tag on my url. I have followed the instructions down below from another Firefox support forum: https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/make-addressbar-text-extension-name-of-the-extension-shorter-or-hide/28026/3

The instructions I followed are listed below:

"Users can apply custom style rules to modify Firefox’s toolbar area by creating a userChrome.css file. This takes about 10 minutes so when you have time to take it slowly and carefully:

(1) Set up your chrome folder and userChrome.css file following the five six steps in this article:

https://www.userchrome.org/how-create-userchrome-css.html 45

I have a boring video there if you like demonstrations.

(2) This is the code to paste into the file. You can edit the file using Notepad or a better editor. Make sure to keep it in a plain text format with a .css file extension (not .css.txt).

See improved rule down in: Make addressbar text "Extension (Name Of The Extension)" shorter or hide

/*
   Hide Extension Name in the identity area unless
   hovered for half a second (updated for Fx80)
*/
#identity-box.extensionPage #identity-icon-labels,
#identity-box.extensionPage #identity-icon-label {
  visibility: collapse !important;
  transition: visibility 250ms ease-in-out;
}
#identity-box.extensionPage:hover #identity-icon-labels,
#identity-box.extensionPage:hover #identity-icon-label {
  visibility: visible !important;
  transition: visibility 250ms ease-in-out 500ms;
}

(3) Firefox should read the file at its next startup and apply it to every extension page you load."

Edit: So, yeah, I need help getting this tag off. I'm new to Firefox so it could be something obvious I'm missing. I have also tried CTRL+SHIFT+R to reload the page for changes and also closed and reopened my Firefox entirely.

Thanks in advance.

Before you reply, look at the last lines if you do not want to make fools of yourselves (by answering a question that was not asked).

Two or three years ago, a number of people complained about the lack (loss of possibility) of removing many login/passwords entries. I believe you could do that a few years back, before the infamous Lockwise.

As of today (14 Feb 2021), you have to delete unwanted entries ONE BY ONE, confirming each with a click. Typically designed for tablets and phones, forgetting that the desktop-rest-of-us still can use a keyboard shortcuts and such.

For example, if you want to remove cookies that relate to SITENAME, you just have to go to the Manage Data section of cookies, type in SITENAME, select all, then remove the selection. Done in 1'.

Currently, solutions that are still recommended are:

- reset the key password, hence deleting ALL passwords - remove the logins.json file

I do not want that, because (as for the requests I have seen on this topic https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1276054), I have around 950 logins stored in there (yes, been using firefox for more than 15 years, and Netscape before that).

So, no, I don't want to remove everything ; no, I do not want to spend even 30' clicking.

Last time Firefox updated, I managed to find information online about moving the website tabs so they were below the bookmarks instead of at the top of the screen. It was a huge pain-in-the-butt to do.

After a recent re-install, the tabs have moved themselves back to the top of the screen and nothing I do seems to be able to move them back below the bookmarks.

Is there a way I can move the tabs that doesn't involve spending hours hunting through posts on the web, changing hidden Firefox settings, and recoding .css files?

If not, why do you not give the option to move the tabs wherever the user wants? Especially when it makes far more sense to have the website tabs directly above the website being viewed, at least in my opinion?

I'm currently using Firefox 85.0.2 (64-bit).

Firefox hogging hard drive space with temp files (cubeb-shm...input/output)

I've discovered that in my Users/UserName/AppData/Local/Temp folder, there are thousands of files eating up space with name "cubeb-shm-#####-#####-input" and "cubeb-shm-#####-#####-output", where "#####-#####" is a 10 digit number seperated by a hyphen.

I did a basic google search for these filenames and found several articles that talk about how firefox uses these, and normally creates and then deletes them, so there should only ever be one of each (input/output) file at a time. For some reason, I have thousands of these files, and they are eating up hundreds of Gb's of space on my hard drive. I only discovered this because my computer notified me I was running out of space. I manually deleted them, but I don't want to have to do this regularly, since it seems it's not expected behavior for Firefox.

I'm running the 64 bit version of Firefox 85.0.2, and there are no new updates available at the time of this writing. I'm really hoping someone can help me figure out how to get Firefox to appropriately manage these files. Help me Firefox community! You're my only hope!

So I've disabled Firefox updates because of the personal preferences. It keeps nagging me every day with the modal to update. How do I disable this annoying useless feature?

Firefox 85.0 on mac os.

I've tried searching "about:config" for all preferences that contain "update" and look like timers and changed the timestamps to something in the far future. Still no dice, the update dialog keeps appearing every day like clockwork.

I had so many problems with it, I went through downloading different "session save" add-ons, I know what solution you guys will give me, I've done most of the posts' instructions, this is more of a complaint post.

When Windows boots up and you had Firefox open before you shut down last time, it will open anew, automatically, with your previous session, but it's on the end of the list of things that launch on startup.

Forgetting you had it on and clicking the browser again, will open a new session with the home screen instead of the previous session, then when actual session Firefox launches it's a 50/50 whether it will be in home screen as well, or actually in your previous session. Now here is the fun part. If you close the new window with just the home tab, that will now become the latest session, so your previous one will be deleted.

How to get around that? Move your home tab into your session instead of closing the window, it works 100% of the time... But can we, not start a new session if you close the home screen, or if you close just 1 tab it doesn't count as a different session. I dunno, just throwing ideas out there.

Hope this reaches those with the same issue, or people in positions to fix the issue, if anyone wants to use session saving add-ons, I took fancy to Tab Session Manager and Easy Session Manager, though not perfect, I don't advise for over 150 tabs.

I'll try to be as active on this thread as I can be, thanks for reading through! :>

I'm using Firefox 85.0.2 . . . I was doing this (below), to customize my header and footer, but in this version of FF, I no longer see this in Options - only in: about:config . . . keyword "footer" . . . there, I would have to change it for 5 different ways of printing (to printers or to PDF)

I need to get rid of printing the URL in the footer - many times, it's too long, and I don't need it.

Where did the Page Setup option go?

I see in the current Print Options, you have to go to - More Settings / Margin / Custom - to see those. Why would they put this so many levels down?

It used to be: File / Page Setup / Margins & Header/Footer . . . "Customize" Headers & Footers:

Option 1 (left) . . . there are two leading spaces:

 > > &T
 > > &U . . . &D . . . &PT

Option 2 (left) . . . get rid of the ">"s, and just have the two leading spaces:

 &T
 &U . . . &D . . . &PT

A recent Firefox update has totally disrupted our ability to print from browser windows. There used to be a "Print Preview" button that allowed us to set things up the way we wanted them. That's now missing. As a result, stuff that used to cost us for ten pages now costs us for twenty pages. Also, when we print double-sided, the second side prints upside down.

This strikes me and my wife as a horrible development, and we would like to go back to the old version ASAP!
