Running Firefox 140.8.0esr (64-bit) on Windows 10 Pro on an HP laptop. The feature/problem described works properly with Chrome and Edge. The problem occurs when accessing the following article:
https://www.comsoc.org/publications/ctn/turning-fiber-sensing-system-magic-fiber-optics-sensing
If the window is set wide enough, there is a sidebar displaying, "Share this content in X". If the screen is squeezed down (i.e. drag the right margin to the left) far enough, the sidebar will disappear. That feature is handled properly, but as the window width is increased and the sidebar appears, the main body of text does not wrap properly. It appears that Firefox is not compensating for the width of the sidebar.

I just started getting a message saying Facebook was breached back in 2023. Never got any message prior to this week. Situation is: I moved to a new city and can no longer see ANY of my passwords saved on Firefox. It's basically saying I have to change them ALL! Even if I tried, it's required to know the previous password to change the password on many, if not ALL the account passwords. The message says I was breached, but I wasn't. FIX IT PLEASE!!!

What happened to the feature in Settings that allows turning off Firefox control of mouse.
I do not bother to remember the name of the setting, because I simply turned it off each time there was an update, to avoid the problems it caused. NOW, it is no longer in settings.
I first notices a problem when links on a banner did not work. It did no occur to me it was due to Firefox control of the mouse.
Next the mouse wheel function, configured in the OS, that scrolls three lines has become dysfunctional. It jumps around and jerk up and down when I use it to scroll 3 lines which is a huge time waste.
Then I went to settings to turn off the mouse feature and it was not there! So I looked in about:config and there is a huge list of mouse settings that appear to be configured the way Firefox has universally done without any way to disable Firefox control of the mouse.
Lastly, I do not have the mouse configured for accessibility; I have it minimally configured the way I need it in the computer OS settings. The Firefox configuration of how the mouse functions in Firefox also creates the same wheel problem when not using the browser.
How can Firefox universal configuration of the mouse be disabled. Nothing about it is useful or helpful, it creates a number of obstacle - primarily interference with the use of the mousewheel, and on some websites (primarily configured for the use of Chrome) the banner links are not responding to the mouse.
I do not have an accessibility configuration, nor do I use keyboard mouse shortcuts, Last time I updated I actually installed the entire program, hoping to avoid the Microsoft control of Firefox since the update feature apparently uses the microsoft app to update and takes control when Firefox is the default browser (perhaps also when it is not) - to no avail.
Please at least return the feature to disable Firefox mouse settings that allows turning off the configured mouse setting, or at least offer a solution for disabling them!!

I'm having huge memory problems with Firefox. In about:performance I can see that the extensions process takes up way too much memory. When I start Firefox it usually shows a memory usage of around 180MB. However, at some point the memory usage of the extensions process starts to increase and it doesn't stop increasing until my RAM is full and then it increases even further. It increases until I restart Firefox or until it uses so much RAM that my computer runs incredibly slow.
Below you can see a screenshot of the Task Manager showing how much RAM is available on my computer and a screenshot of the about:performance page showing the memory usage of the Extensions process. The RAM available on my laptop is 10GB (the default configuration was 4GB of soldered RAM plus 4GB of exchangeable RAM. I have upgraded from 4+4GB to 4+8GB but 2GB of the soldered RAM on this laptop are used as GPU memory so the remaining RAM is 10GB). The about:performance screenshot shows a memory usage of 13GB for the extensions process which is possible because Windows automatically pages RAM on the SSD when I'm running low on available physical memory. This enables programs to actually use more memory than the available physical RAM but of course programs become incredibly slow when the RAM is full and huge parts of memory have to be paged on the SSD.
My actual question: How can I find the cause of these memory problems?
What I've tried so far
- I have created a memory report on about:memory. The result is at the bottom of this post. - I have watched the about:performance page and tried to find out what action triggers the memory usage of the extensions process to increase. At the start of the browsing session the memory usage is only at around 180MB. It stays like that for a while. At some point it starts to steadily increase by many GBs. But I couldn't find the cause. I don't know what triggers the extensions process to increase memory usage. - I could simply disable extensions and see if the problem gets solved. But I want to know which exact extension causes this problem. It is very difficult to find out which one it is because I have many extensions and I don't know what causes the memory usage to increase. So I would have to disable extensions one by one and wait for an indefinite amount of time and check whether memory usage stays low. But I don't know how long I have to wait until the memory usage would increase because I couldn't identify what triggers it to increase.
Rather than just using trial and error I would like to find a way to use debugging tools to exactly determine what causes the problem.
_______________________
This (https://pastebin.com/U3QXTAt9) is the memory report from about:memory. This contains the whole extension (pid 18332) section (copy & pasted by selecting the text on the about:memory page). I have left out the rest because I don't know if it contains private data. Please note: this is not taken from the same browsing session as the screenshot that shows a memory usage of 13GB. Why? Because programs run very slow when memory is low and large parts of memory are being paged. The debug tools usually require a lot of RAM and CPU performance so it's very difficult to use the debug tools when the memory is already full and programs are already running slow. This memory report shows a very high memory usage of the extensions process. In this case it's "only" 3.5GB but it was taken in an early stage of the increasing memory usage. As shown in the screenshot below, memory usage can go even higher than the available physical RAM on my computer. The memory report doesn't clearly show which extension is responsible for the high memory usage. In the memory report, I can only see a high memory usage for the items gc-buffers and gc-heap which leads me to think that the memory problem has something to do with the garbage collector. However, I cannot see which extension is responsible for this. No item in this list with a description that identifies a specific extension has a high memory usage. This is only an excerpt from the memory report (only the extension section). I went through the whole memory report with Ctrl + F "moz-extension" and looked for items with a high memory usage but I didn't find a single item with high memory usage that belongs to a specific extension.

Hello all:
Just downloaded version 140 and ran into an immediate "visual/appearance" problem with regard to the background color(s) of the sidebar bookmarks view. Many themes now have totally dark sidebar colors and not readable (see screenshot image upload with this posting). I always have my bookmarks (almost 1200 of them) displayed in my sidebar, and this is the first time an issue like this has arisen with a Firefox update.
To remedy this scenario, I must use very light colored themes that have a white background when you bring up the sidebar bookmarks. If not, everything is totally dark and unreadable.
Any ideas or help on this one?

I am switching from firefox to firefox-esr. Version 147.0.3 to 140.7.0esr, start firefox with --allow-downgrade which mostly works. What does not is the "Home default" page, it is blank and can not even be configured to what it was because the settings page is also blank, nothing below "choose what content ...".
I have done this on 4 machines now with same failure for the home page. settings. My previous workaround was new profile and import data so the setting page is therein ESR. This is a far harder than it should be there being no single export-import. I had to export import history with a third party plugin and cookies the only method [I found] was to copy the sqlite file. Others like password export-import are fragmented.

Several weeks ago Firefox worked normally for me. I left for most of the day and when I got home Firefox no longer worked at all. Everything on my home page was gone and when I typed in websites - such as my e-mail program or Facebook, nothing ever came up. I'm not super browser savvy, but I opened the menu and under help was "trouble shooting mode". I didn't know what that was but figured nothing much more could go wrong with Firefox, so I chose that. I had to rebuild the websites I had in a row on the middle of the page. I didn't lose bookmarks, but everything else was different. So I left it that way.
Earlier today, Firefox wanted me to do another update. I thought maybe by agreeing to that, things might return to normal. Noooooooo. It's no better whatever. Now I don't know how to get out of troubleshooting mode to know if anything will work normally again.
I am seriously considering switching browsers, but I have a LOT of stuff bookmarked and that would be very intensive to build all those book marks in another browser.

I am so disappointing in the CEO's decision to push AI. Firefox has a very dedicated following BECAUSE it does not push AI and all the other shady things other Browsers push. Everyone I know will stop using Mozilla browsers if they continue on in implementing AI.
I have spent so many hours deleting every sneaky file, disabling every program, having all firewalls block any AI. (I really do need to switch to Linux with the amount of time I spend on this lol...)
How do we contact the higher ups? If large numbers of users emailed/heck even wrote (making a point that we will delete our Mozilla accounts if AI happens) maybe it could help? Or a petition?

I called NYT Support, which tells me it must be a Firefox issue since I can open in Chrome, Safari. I thought it might because I have the Enhanced Tracking Protection box checked, but unchecking does nothing.

I want to make myMSN ( URL is www.msn.com/?pc=U506&ocid=U506DHp ) my Firefox Home Page. I have tried all the suggested methods but apparently I'm not doing something correctly because none of them have worked. The closest I've come to success is pasting the URL in the Home Page option in Firefox Settings, but I can't get it to stay there. There is no "SAVE" button to click on. My old computer (running Windows 10) had no trouble setting myMSN as my Firefox Home Page but this new computer running Windows 11 is making it extremely hard (impossible so far). I have tried following suggested methods step-by-step but without success. Please help.

Hello,
I have Firefox 140.0 on Windows 11 23H2. I just noticed that the Favorites Sidebar text and background are both dark. The History Sidebar does not have this problem. Changing either Firefox or Windows color scheme has no effect. I'm pretty sure this happened with the latest update.
Thanks
