My computer, for the last year or so, has had an... ODD.... problem. once a month or so, my computer would slow down to ridiculous levels, and would remain so for an hour or so. I usually went off to read or watch a movie, and it would be fine when I return. [This detail is at one of the facts at odds with what everyone else keeps calling a memory leak, as most leaks just accelerate until a crash occurs, not fix themselves in an hour]. At first I thought it was some automatic update running in the background, but today I noticed in Task Manager how Firefox's memory usage kept rising even though it wasn't responding. When I shut it down forcefully, it took a few minutes, but then it shut off and the computer went back to normal. I only rarely have Firefox crash suddenly for no apparent reason, and I'm pretty sure most of those can be traced to flash games screwing up.
HOWEVER: Today, I had around 30 total tabs across 3 windows. For 2 months prior I had 6 windows, 4 with 100+ tabs and 1 with over 666 tabs (not joking, I actually trolled my friend with that fact at one point). The "memory leak" showed up at basically the same rate: Once a month or so max. The only reason I even bookmarked those tabs and saved was because I needed to run a flash program that was being horrifically laggy due to tab count. [This complete lack of tab count effecting the issue, as well as the rate of it happening, also is at odds with everyone else's memory leak, which seems to occur within the day you start Firefox. PLEASE NOTE: My computer is only ever shut off during automatic windows updates. This means it is on for up to 2 weeks at a time and this effect STILL doesn't happen more than once a month]
The various facts lead me to one of 2 conclusions. Either 1: This is a completely different issue from everyone else, in which case I ask for help to figure out why this happens, or 2: This is a hidden aspect of everyone else's issue, in which case maybe these details, and any others i can provide on demand, may help someone identify the source of the problem.
(Note: Aside from the aforementioned rare crash and this possible memory leak, my Firefox runs PERFECTLY.)
Secondary details: Windows 7 64-bit, running in test mode because I cant remember how to turn it off (not that that matters, this started before I did that), only active plugins/extensions are standard access (flash, acrobat, etc), Ad-block Plus and Foxlingo (so i can translate Japanese sites). Don't see how video card matters, I have 6 GB of RAM, and an AMD Phenom II x4 810 processor (2.60GHz). My computer is in hardware a standard Gateway model DX4300 bought from Costco a few years ago, if that helps. For any other details please leave a reply and I'll do my best to post the information (if its not really easy to get, please list a method to acquire it, I'm not a hacker/programmer/software designer!)
