The AI tab thing is a problem for me for multiple reasons. I found various articles about how to turn it off. They pointed to the following setting: In about:config set the setting "browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled" to false, and then restart Firefox.

However, when I do that, and then immediately go back to about:Config to check the setting, it has changed itself back to "true".

Other settings accept and keep permanent changes. This means that I'm not forgetting to save the change or anything. Just this one setting (which turns off something causing me problems) refuses to actually stay set.

I see the answer to this question https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1509077 and tried looking there. There is a completed study called "Smart Tab Groups Rollout", but since it is in the "Completed Studies" group, I cannot remove it.

I have lost my tabs after the recent update. They used to show all tab groups in toolbar icon as mentioned here (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tab-groups) in manage tabs section. Only the groups that were open are retained, the groups which were closed are lost. They contained important tabs which I haven't bookmarked. I didn't see any policy of removal of inactive tab groups after certain time, any help would be really appreciated. I use the desktop app on Linux.

I recently noticed that even though I have been closing firefox with several tabs open on my windows 11 laptop, upon closing firefox, all the tabs are getting closed. I checked if open tabs from previous sessions is on or not in settings and it is. I again checked several times by opening newer tabs and closing firefox to see if the old tabs are still open and they never are. This is a very annoying problem for me as I keep a lot of tabs open and switch between them and often need the same tabs again even after closing firefox temporarily. Is there a way I can fix this issue?

On those somewhat rare (but not all that infrequent) occasions when Firefox locks up and hard crashes and all 6 or 7 of the windows that are open go up in a puff of virtual smoke, (each with their uniquely organized selections of tabs) - upon a restart of FF all of the windows return reliably.

But when a clean shutdown of the program is initiated only the "top" window or two returns, and as far as I've seen there is a limited number to the "Recently Closed Windows" available to recover from the History menu.

Clearly the state of the applications windows is preservable - why not recover all of them, similar to the "on startup pick up where I left off" setting for pages and tabs.

(Incidentally Adobes applications exhibit similar behavior - the system actually works better and can recover the entire "workspace settings" but only if the power is abruptly cut off, (and no tedious waiting for updates to complete as a bonus!))

I've included a gif of the issue. I'm not sure how to "replicate" it.

I have Material Fox Updated installed, and I'm unsure if it contributed to the problem, since I see other threads about this issue as well.

I've tried removing extensions to no effect, so I assume none of my extensions are contributing to the issue either.

I love Firefox and generally really appreciate the way y'all operate as a company and developer.

However, I really don't like this new function to add tabs to a group. Since it rolled out, I'm always adding tabs into groups when I don't mean to. Really, it's creating a group almost every time I move a tab around. If I delete the group, it's just more clicks and distractions to deal with.

In the past, when you've rolled out new features like this, you've also made it very easy to turn off any new feature we don't like. But I can't figure out how to turn this off. Is it possible?

Thanks for your help.

On Chrome Android, the tab group feature is super handy. You can create tab clusters, easily group similar tabs together, and switch between them fluidly. It really helps when you’re multitasking or doing research across multiple topics.

Also, the tab accessibility on Chrome Android is just better. The tab switcher is placed at the bottom of the screen, making it effortless to access all open tabs with just a thumb tap no awkward menu diving or stretching to the top.

My Questions:

1. Is there any timeline or roadmap for bringing tab group functionality to Firefox Mobile?

2. Are there any known efforts or discussions around improving the UI/UX of tab switching such as adding a bottom bar for easier access, similar to Chrome’s approach?

Using Firefox 145.0 (64-bit), "Firefox is up to date" on PC with Windows 11 Pro.

I was so pleased when Firefox's Group Tabs arrived. I often have about 12 tabs open to do Railway research. So I thought, Group Tab, great idea. Save a group of tabs as one tab. Instead of creating a Bookmark Folder and each time opening all bookmarks from said folder, what better way to do than opening one tab. Or so I thought. I also created a "SHIP" tab for my hobby in the shipping industry, so I could have two group tabs that could be collapsed making the tab bar tidier. I saved an closed each group tab then closed down my PC. Next on restarting, Firefox starts up automatically as chosen by me. Both RAIL & SHIP tabs reappeared without me doing anything. Great! However yesterday, I inadvertently opened another Firefox window, forgot it was opened. So when I shut down my PC, I closed the Firefox browser and then discovered the over Firefox window I had opened. Closed it shut down my computer. Of course when I opened my PC today, Firefox started automatically, but with the tab that I had open in the last Firefox window. No problem I thought, I will just open the saved Group Tabs. It was a problem, where are the Group Tabs saved? Could I find the location? NO! I looked in Bookmarks, all the various History lists, even the down arrow to list all tabs. Nothing, the Group Tabs are none existent. I have checked on the "about:config" section for Group Tabs and everything is enabled "true". So where are the Group Tabs saved? I have been with Firefox for around 14 years, often citing it as the best browser. But over the last five years I find myself using Chrome more and more. Chrome has Group Tabs which do not not need the users to save them, they are saved automatically, and are easily found on opening the Chrome browser. Why doesn't Firefox have this?

Is there a Firefox fix? This is a new problem. Is it a bug? Thanks.

OK when I restart firefox, or have been using it for a while, I might decide that I'd like to close a TAB or maybe even a heap of them.

Trouble is that someone has decided that when people close a TAB, the one to the right, automatically reloads.

I don't want to reload a TAB I am not currently using, I just want to close the TAB or TABS, that I am no longer using.

Stop doing this really retarded "Oh we think this is a good idea to automate things - you don't want, don't need and have not asked for, with the typical NO choose to switch it on, and NO off switch".

Seriously provide the option to turn this function on, and to turn it off.

AND up till the day this never happens, is there a switch in the about:config to turn this highly undesirable and useless function off?

Hi, i like to share idea of tab group improvement. I have more than 20 tabs, and i clean, move open tabs to groups every week, to lower opened tab amount, so i don't need to scroll much. But when i want to consume tab group content, i need to read them all to see what i want to consume... Solution, i would like option to sort tab groups by name, that way it will be faster to find what i want. Also it would be easier to find what tab group to add tab when i clean, move opened tabs. I have more than 500 tabs in my tab group. I finally decided to stop YT search, instead clean my tab groups. Thanks for reading.
