When I go to log into my Microsoft Account using their Edge browser, I get the proper login window. (see attachment-upper part) When I attempt to log in to my Microsoft Account using Firefox I get the garbage in the lower half of my attachment, and the page DOES NOT work. It always used to work, and I don't remember changing any settings. I want to use Firefox and Bing Rewards, but if it won't let me log into my Microsoft Account I can't access Bing Rewards! I don't want to use Edge, I have always preferred Firefox. What's going on?! Thanks for any help, Dave

When I restarted my computer today, all of the bookmarks in my toolbar had been erased. Now I can't even add a new bookmark. I tried to restore the bookmarks, but it said it couldn't read the file. I'm really worried if I can't get the bookmarks back or even add new ones.

I have selected the following settings to no avail:

"Choose how Firefox handles the files you download form the web or the applications you use while browsing:" I have set every file type to "always ask", yet when I click on a .kmz, it always prompts me to save it when I want to open it with Google Earth instead. I also tried the setting to default to opening with Google Earth, yet it still prompted me to save the file. I have rebooted to try to make this setting kick in and still no luck. Perhaps this is because the option on the Firefox list is .kml, not .kmz? How do I get it to give me a choice or default to opening with Google Earth?

changes to file download locations in version 98

Re: Changes to how file downloads are handled in Firefox version 98: Personally I don't consider this an enhancement. Since I upgraded to v98, every file I open online, even if I'm not saving it, is saving a copy of itself onto my desktop. (To be precise, D:\OneDrive\Desktop). And I look at up to 20 files per day, so this is getting pretty annoying.

My regular downloads directory still exists, and that should be where temporary copies of files are being stored prior to my closing or saving them (right?). But it's empty.

Note that under Settings > General > Downloads, the default is set to Always Ask rather than one specific directory. However I believe that is for the "permanent" version of the files, not the temporary version.

How do I get Firefox to revert back to the pre-98 defaults for the temporary versions of files? I was hoping this change was a mistake but I see that 98.01 did not fix it and from the article referenced above, it looks like changes were made deliberately. And the desktop is clearly not a place where temporary files should be being placed.

Thanks.

Late last week, something changed in Firefox browser. I used to download csv files and Firefox would open them with the option to save as an excel file. Now it does not. I have to save it as csv then convert it to excel. It also doesn't seem to save my settings on the website I'm downloading from - I always have to manipulate the settings before downloading. It is a huge headache and I have resorted to using Chrome instead.

After booting up my PC and logging in to Win10 I get a pop-up window (see attached 1) although I haven't even started FF.

The only FF process running during boot/login is the background update (see attached 2), but this never showed such a message before. I've been using FF for ages.

FF was updating successfully to 98.0.1 yesterday before I shut down my PC. FF seems to keep working with no problem - I'm using it right now...

I recently installed ExpressVPN which blocks internet access until the tunnel is established. So maybe the background update process got confused because it couldn't access the internet?

Any other ideas why I got this message - or how to get rid of it?

11am (my time): Background Update ran again (attached 3) with result code 0x15 (1st run was 0x0) but did not show any message this time...

I am unable to livestream video services from a monastery in the UK. I have clicked into the little shield at the left end of the web address bar in order to turn off the enhanced protection, but this does not have any effect, even though the website shows up as having had the protection disabled. I don't know whether I need to do anything in Firefox settings.

I was advised to use Google Chrome, and that browser does let me enter, but I prefer to stay with Firefox for all my browsing. I am an elderly person, and have to work harder than my children and grandchildren to keep up-to-date. If you could help me with some very clear instructions with the minumum of technical jargon I would be most grateful. I submit below a screenshot of what I see on the site despite the protection having been switched off on the little shield.

The original topic is located here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1180429

Menu bar is there, just no response or opening when click on bookmark, menu etc. was what he reported and I have not only the same issue, but it is happening with ALL Mozilla browsers I have including Tor, Firefox and Waterfox. I cannot figure out why this is happening!

I did follow the suggestions within that topic but it was all I could find on Google. Apparently this is NOT something that has happened to many people. Below I have including some possibly relevant data. If something else is required, please ask and I will reply back. Thanks!

So, is it Windows or Firefox browser that has completely screwed up our ability to simply set the background color for the browser, title bar and menu instead of being forced to use what some programmer decided on a Friday to create so they could go home early.? If it's Firefox, then go back to your browser people and tell them to fix this garbage. I'm going to have to look into other browsers if this is some permanent screw up. I'd really appreciate hearing from Firefox in answer to this.

Firefox 98.0.1 will not load some web pages that other browsers will. I get a message about Network Protocol Error with the option to "Try Again" which hasn't worked. I've tried many of the fixes suggested here but nothing changes. If I copy the link Firefox won't open and paste it in Brave or Opera the link loads fine. I don't want to quit Firefox but I can't spend time every day trying to fix it either.
