Windows10 Won't Boot & Won't Restore - Need To Recover My Mozilla Profile VIA Command Line

After following a support document on editing system registry (the document suggested a full registry export in opposition to the chosen registry key export which does no good when in my situation using Windows 'reg import' can not be done using the full registry backup) to restore functionality of my Seagate USB Backup Plus Windows10 will not boot and I fear that I am going to have to start from scratch and so I wanted to ask this question in preparation for the worst possible scenario.

I am chronically reliant upon being able to close Mozilla having faith that it will always restore my last session(s) of all open tabs and their locations successfully EVERY TIME ... now that I may have to start from scratch with my OS, I am desperate to recover my Mozilla profile and I am in great hopes, that recovering the profile will likewise have my last session data to be restored once I get Windows10 running again, because I will really be in a pickle if I lose my open tabs!

So my questions are:

1: Is it possible to recover the profile including the very important "Restore Last Session" where all open tabs of the last session exists?

2: I will be retrieving the files VIA Command Line. I would like to be certain that I am retrieving the correct file(s) from the correct file location(s). Can someone provide the Mozilla profile folder locations and names.

Thanking you in advance for your time and knowledge

Best Regards

The instructions for restoring bookmarks from a backup provide no solution if the backup fails. There's not even an acknowledgment that it might fail. I have a large bookmarks collection that is not syncing correctly. I was trying to force an update by using an explicit backup moved through Dropbox. But it would not load and replace the incorrect bookmarks collection.

There are no stated limitations on how many bookmarks can be synced or backed up. There is no access to interior state to gain insight into the fundamental nature of the failure.

It's not clear how best to proceed.

Hi.. I had the Yahoo spigot infection. I found the file responsible in my temp folders. Malwarebytes found other files there as well. Once I deleted those files, the Yahoo page no longer showed and I could choose a default home page again.

But in the process, it stopped the tab memory.

It used to be that I could close FF, with several tabs open. It would have all of those tabs again next time I started FF. Now, it warns me that it will close all tabs, and when I start FF again, it only has one tab.

Can that be fixed?

After upgrading to FF 40.0.3 on my mac and experiencing a crash, I have lost all my stored passwords. The signon.sqlite file appears to contain all my stored passwords. I tried the re-setting signonimported from sqlite to default, shutting FF, deleting login.jsign and then restarting FF (as recommended on the support site). This process recreated the login.jsign file, which appeared to have all the information, but FF still shows no stored passwords in preferences. I have no extensions that control passwords. Any advice?

Today my former excellent Firefox lost all it's memory. My standard tabs in the upper bar are all gone. It constantly only wants to search in Yahoo, which I hate. I want it back as it was yesterday. I want all my tabs back and I want it to search using Google. I have tried to set-up an account and to sync but nothing works as it keeps going back to a blank new start up with no tabs and Yahoo search.

I bravely updated as prompted, and now my encrypted passwords are useless since the file I believe (?) is needed to decrypt them "key3.db" is not doing its job. I do not have a backup of the key3.db that did work last week. Is there any way to decrypt the passwords or restore them in Firefox?

I have one old key3.db from June of 2014. I used that to replace the new one in my profile folder, but it didn't work.

Making the saved passwords function suddenly useless after an update would seem like a fairly big mistake. I am a veteran user and this has seriously violated my trust.

My problem started after I deleted my profile. Not knowing what I was doing, I deleted my profile and restarted Firefox. I had no bookmarks, my theme was gone, etc. After a while, I figured out how to use my old Firefox data to get my old profile back. When I did this, I think I might have gone back to an older version of Firefox, but it says everything is up to date. The Problem is that when I go to some websites, it says there is a buggy script (or loads very slow) and I have to stop script then it works. Another thing is that when I go to some websites (it varies on how often it happens) it says I need to update my media player. So I got to the link and it automatically pulls up an .exe. I have a mac and can't use an exe (don't tell me to use bootcamp, I don't have a flash drive big enough). When I just go to the web it's the same thing. If it should only work with Microsoft, then how do I stop the banner from showing up?

Thanks for the help, and if you couldn't, thanks for trying.

Hard drive crashed due to multiple power outages & a brownout, and just had a new one (solid state) installed.

They got Firefox installed, and my bookmarks in place (it appears), but none of my saved passwords are there.

They did a copy of all my old hard drive's data to the new drive (and a backup on a small solid state drive), but I haven't been able to find a way to get Firefox to locate & use them. It is saving new ones I create, but the old ones (probably a hundred or more) aren't there.

I'm not very computer savvy, so if anyone has a simple, step-by-step method of doing this, I'd REALLY appreciate it!

I'm on Win10 (upgraded from Win7 Home Premium a couple of months ago), and the latest version of Firefox.

Just now, where I went to use my computer (lap-top using OS X.6) for the first time today, I found that my bookmarks (in Firefox 46.0.1) are all gone. After looking within my computer for an answer in Help and not finding one, I tried Firefox's web-pages Help. There, I did find relevant instructions for restoring the bookmarks (which I'll paste in below for reference) and followed them. As the instructions said there would be, indeed, there were a number of backups for me to choose between, namely, a couple from just recently and a few earlier ones. But, for each I tried, I received the reply: "Firefox unable to process the backup file". Can you tell me what to try next? Thanks so much ...

(the help-instructions that I followed:)----
Manual backup Click the Bookmarks button Bookmarks-29 and select Show All Bookmarks to open the Library window. In the Library window, click the e3f62ffc25d52f883aa490cc65d71e2d-1252097598-804-1.png Import and Backup button and then select Backup.... In the Bookmarks backup filename window that opens, choose a location to save the file, which is named bookmarks-"date".json by default. The desktop is usually a good spot, but any place that is easy to remember will work. Save the bookmarks json file. The Bookmarks backup filename window will close and then you can close the Library window.

When I opened Firefox this morning, Ask.com had taken over the Firefox site. I closed and re-opened Firefox and a window appeared asking me to refresh and I did so. So a few weeks ago I finally upgraded to 49 something. Bookmarks worked normally after the upgrade. But yesterday my computer froze and I had to reboot. Bookmarks and history suddenly missing, can't create bookmarks. Found Restore, can see a list of backup bookmark files with dates and file size, but get message "unable to process backup file." Browsed for possible solutions. Ascertained that I only have the one profile. Downloaded 50.0, installed, rebooted. Still nothing. I did not install any new add-ons as far as I know. Not doing any syncing. (By the way, I view my bookmarks as a sidebar.)

What to try next?
