I'd like to use the firefox default downloader because of its convenience - one click downloads for most of the sites I use.

The default downloader also works wonders with some of the extensions I'm using.

The problem is that it 'always' downloads at about 20% of what my internet is capale of, regardless of which site I'm downloading from. I'm using free download manager to counter act this issue, but it makes the download process tedious because I have to change the file name of each download (it doesnt pick up the name for some downloads), and it involves copying and pasting the download link each time there is a firefox update, since the free dowload manager plugin for firefox takes long to be updated each time.

My home network is fairly standard, I'm not using any proxies, no VPNs, just plain old adsl and wifi. I'm having this issue on all my devices at home by the way. Some do go a bit faster, but almost never above 180KB/s

Is there any setting in options or even in the config (about:config) that I can change to try and fix this?

I am well aware that the Firefox version on the dozen or so PCs here are out of date. Problem is, Firefox updates regularly break things, or the UI changes. We have been seeing "Your Firefox is critically out of date" prompts every time we use Firefox.

One person clicked on the update and it broke several things such as bookmarks, a online game and a couple of addons. Fortunately I take backup images of PCs every night so we were able to restore the system.

I only have one test PC here. I am already working on several major projects and just don't have time to test, resolve issues and update Firefox at this time.

In the mean time, is there a way to stop this incessant nag that our browsers are critically out of date.

I'd rather not get into an argument about why the update is required, or how or why it breaks things. They are what they are. All I want to do is stop the nag.

thanks

You said this (attached), not long ago. It doesn't work w/ ff60. I will not upgrade until/unless you tell me how to do this in ff60 -- I don't give a **** how much more secure it is (deck chairs on the Titanic, y'know...).

You broke it -- you fix it.

(This isn't fun for you, either -- I know! Why!!!???)

I want the bookmarks sidebar to display bookmarks alphabetically, AFTER I've filtered them by a tag. I've sorted my bookmarks, and when I don't filter them by a tag, they appear alphabetically in the sidebar. However, if I filter them by a tag I've assigned to some bookmarks (by typing the tag into the text box at the top of the bookmarks sidebar) the tagged bookmarks appear in what appears to be an arbitrary order. Since displaying them in alphabetical order would be the easiest thing to do -- since the bookmarks are already alphabetized! -- why is there extra work done to scramble the bookmarks when filtered by a tag? Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Firefox has been updating itself successfully over the past year, but today when I followed the most recent update (I think I had version 60.8 prior to the update), it didn't restart. When I tried running it using the command line, I got the error message:

firefox: symbol lookup error: libxul.so: undefined symbol: dbus_validate_bus_name

For now, I reverted back to an old version (55).

Any tips on how to resolve this problem?

I'm using firefox on linux 32bit with Fedora 17

Thanks!

With 4 different user accounts on our Windows 7 PC, we need each user to have their own chosen version of Firefox. One wants to stay with an older version, another wants the latest all the time.

There must be a way to install and make each FF version available only to the user currently on the computer. Each user has their own AppData folder after all.

And, no, not interested in the profiles nonsense. Want different versions of FF installed but each version only available to the user who installed it.

I've been using ImageBlocker 0.0.6, to globally block images over a certain size (with a host whitelist), which is crude but mostly works. Unfortunately I discovered that it permanently (?) disables the Yet Another Remove-It Permanently addon, which I use even more. Are there currently any other solutions? There can't be just one? I am using FF 55.0 EME-free with Windows. Thanks for any advice.

Firefox breaks all my important add-ons. Without these add-ons, Firefox is not worth using, at least not to me. The add-ons I use are:

 (1) Add Bookmark Here ^2
 (2) All Tabs Helper
 (3) FlashGot
 (4) Session Manager

I am currently using Firefox 55.0.3 (64-bit).

Yes, I know it's not secure. I don't care.

Yes, I have looked for replacements for each of these these add-ons. I found none.

Yes, I turned off updates. Yes, I turned off "Use a background service to install updates". Firefox still updated to 56.

I have replaced the Firefox utility "updater.exe" with a program that does nothing. Will that stop updates from occurring? If not, what else can I do?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I am required to purchase and install a particular certificates in order to get onto a government website. I am using version 55 and am not allowed to update the version because I have to keep the version that I originally installed the certificate under. Recently my certificates have disappeared. When I view "Your Certificates" the box is blank. I completely uninstalled Firefox, reinstalled version 55, and redownloaded my certificate and the certificate worked and was showing in the "Your certificates". However, when I closed out the browser and opened it back up later, my certificates are blank again. Do you know what's causing this?

New versions of Firefox regularly break things. Whether it's Netflix/Stan/Pronto or other streaming services, add-ons, re-invent the UI, some websites just stop working properly with the newer version or a number of other things.

I have 10 PCs here. We are using 55.0.3 because it was the last version with a UI that we were all familiar with, worked with all the services we use, supported all the add-ons and more. It's very outdated but I want to keep all PCs on a known working environment.

So I'm currently testing 61.0.2 (Not 62.0 because it's a zero release, which always have issues). I've managed to find solutions for most annoyances regarding add ons and using Photon-Australis to get back the curved tabs (The square look is just plain disgusting). I've got the reload icon back in the address bar, and hidden the 3 dots with a 30 second timeout so I will likely never have to be annoyed by it. I've got rid of the wasted spaces on the address bar too.

I use a space theme (Earth from space). It uses a cyan font. On the white tabs it's all but invisible. Using the dark theme fixes that, but I'd like to have the tabs the same color as the background of the address bar as in v55. Reading through the userchrome.css file I just get lost.

The other thing I'd like to preserve are the icons for home, download and bookmarks, Is there a way to preserve the icons that are used in v55 rather than the uglier ones use in v61?

I'm sorry for coming across so negatively, it' just I don't get why developers keep changing UIs that are working. Change for the sake of change, which just adds frustration. Firefox is not the only program. Windows is probably the worst. So please don't be offended.
