Hi all,

I'm trying to automatically configure Firefox using the policies.json file, but I don't seem to be able to get it to work.

I've created /usr/lib/firefox/distribution/policies.json with this content: {

 "policies": {
   "Homepage": {
     "URL": "https://www.google.com/",
     "Locked": false,
     "StartPage": "homepage"
   }
 }

}

The file and directory permissions allow for read by everyone.

However, when I restart Firefox, I don't get google as my homepage.

What else can I check?

TIA,

Mike.

I set about updating my e-mail address on this forum. I followed a hyperlink which had been e-mailed to me automatically in the past by the forum, and which pointed to support.mozilla.org

The first screen (whose URL I don't want to try to get right now because doing so might sign me out of my Support.Mozilla.org account) offered only an option for creating a new account, not signing into an existing account. It turns out that this is a very significant wording mistake that needs to be corrected.

Since I thought my existing account didn't exist anymore, I made a new account with my new e-mail address.

Then I found that the short username assigned to my new account had a "1" suffixed - which meant that my existing account did exist after all. So I deleted the new account. I also managed to sign into my existing account by using the misleadingly named "Create a new account" method.

The next problem was how to change my primary e-mail address. There is no evident way to do this. I eventually found article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-primary-email-address-firefox-accounts which confirmed my suspicion that the recommended workaround is to add the new address as a "secondary address," then delete the primary address. This is another significant issue that needs to be corrected. I'm registered on possibly dozens of Web forums etc. & all of them (except Mozilla) simply let me change my e-mail address when I need to.

Anyway, now apparently the support forum doesn't let me add my current e-mail address as a secondary e-mail address, because there is still a record of this address on the defunct account that I just now created. Also, the error message here is worded incorrectly (it claims that my new e-mail address is the same as my old e-mail address).

Can I please have assistance from a forum admin in getting my e-mail address updated, without change to my short username.

I also wish there were a more obvious way to ask for help (or raise defect reports) regarding the forum itself.

Thanks for your help.

Hello, I found very different behaviour today between chrome,brave & firefox,firefoxdevedition with javascript and button.

As visible on the screenshots the button is created with its attributes GET and target profile.html via jinja2 templating.

But in addition, via javascript, I added a function to post the selected tables to a route called SaveToDatabase.

In chrome the js part gets executed and profile.html is loaded, but in firefox based browsers ONLY the js POST is executed and nothing else happens.

What could the problem here be?

Best regards and thank you in advance.

Since firefox updated this morning, I'm no longer able to log in to some sites using forms once auto fill is active.

I've created a new blank profile to test, and it's the same behaviour.

1. start blank profile 2. visit https://bandcamp.com/login 3. enter a username and password (doesn't matter that it's not real) and hit Submit 4. tell Firefox to remember password. 5. clear the form and reload the login page. 6. try to allow firefox to auto fill the fields

There's a really weird mix of things that go on

- sometimes one of the fields is populated, more often they both go yellow, but blank. - double clicking in a field seems to momentarily reveal contents, but then it goes blank again. - typing in an apparently blank but yellow field seems to suddenly append characters to the auto-filled value.

Hi,

I noticed that when I open a specific site, the tabs bar becomes huge, and when I close it, the bar goes back to its normal height. For example, it happens when I go to this page: Problematic Site

I have no idea why it happens. I remember that it did happen before, but I only noticed now that it has something to do with having some specific pages loaded. So I know it has happened because of some other sites, but I don't remember which ones.

Even if I change the tab, the tab bar stays big, as long as the problematic page is loaded (even on the background).

This also happens in safe mode, so it's not because of my extensions, I imagine. Also happening on another laptop here.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Thanks,

especially on startup, i get two 'windows' open. that is, instances. it happens because sometimes i click on firefox and nothing happens. if i decide too soon that it is not going to load, i click again and it then loads twice, and i get the nonsense about firefox already running. if this cannot be fixed, i would like to select allow only one instance to run as VLC offers.

I would like to be able to have two rows of tabs so things did not get so cluttered, but only if it is something like f8 to switch. since dos was squeezed out, nobody is using the f keys anyway.  :(

According to various help articles, I should be able to export my logins and passwords using the Settings- logins and passwords and then click on the three dots in the upper right. That should display a menu with an option to export. In my case, when I click on the three dots I get only these options: Preferences, Help, Lockwise for Android, Lockwise for iPhone/iPad. There is no option to export anywhere on the page. How can I backup and logins so that I can load them on my new computer? As above, Firefox version is 72.0.2 and I am using Linux Mint 19.3.

I've only experienced this on Firefox, but while watching multiple videos/twitch streams, video playback becomes very choppy and laggy. Actually, firefox in its entirety becomes laggy. This is not a problem when using chrome/chromium, and my PC is more than powerful enough to handle this, with a rtx 2060 and an i5-10500. On chrome I've watched 4 streams on twitch at once with no issues, but on Firefox it starts becoming choppy with only 2 open. Anyone know how to fix this? I don't really want to use chrome anymore. I'm currently running Pop! OS 21.04, with Firefox version 89.0.2.

Are those buttons (behind the "page actions" one) supposed to be definitively absent from version 90 on?

They seemed to me one of the most intelligent features in Firefox interface. Some can be added under "customize" option, but copy link and pint tab are not.

Is this removal based on the idea that addons are supposed to provide the same actions anyway?

In Firefox settings, Firefox new tab, and in these mozilla forums, my add-ons are disabled. Specifically Vimium, and I get this message when hovering over the Vimium icon: "Vimium is not running on this page.

Your browser does not run web extensions like Vimium on certain pages, usually for security reasons.

Unless your browser's developers change their policy, then unfortunately it is not possible to make Vimium (or any other web extension, for that matter) work on this page."

How can I enable this, and possibly all normally active add-ons in these pages?

I am running RHEL 7 and KDE4 with Firefox Nightly.

Firefox will not use KDE/Qt dialog boxes or system applications. For example: when showing the downloaded file list (Ctrl + Shift + y) and clicking the folder icon to show the file's location, firefox will freeze for several seconds before opening a window in Nautilus.

I have found discussions of this problem that span seemingly a decade without a simple step-by-step guide or an updated solution. Answers range from: editing =mimeinfo.cache= file for the =inode.directory= line, editing items in =defaults.list= file; setting the =GTK_USE_PORTAL=1= variable (somewhere) and then changing various =about:config= settings.

It's just confusing and exhausting tracking this down. Is it possible to get firefox to play nicely with KDE? Nothing that I have tried so far seems to have worked, but I'm honestly not sure where this setting would live, or magic bash incantation I need to run.

I know this seems minor, but having just switched back over to firefox to chrome, it seems very jarring seeing the GTK dialogs that do not play nicely with the rest of my desktop/workflow (i.e., I do not want to start a Gnome vs KDE flamewar, but rather: I'm used to dolphin and how it works and make heavy use of the embedded terminal within dolphin windows or drag&drop files into the Qt open dialog box which "drops" as a file path ... I have no idea what happens if I drag something into the GTK open dialog box)

Hi, whenever I start Firefox up, one of the tabs randomly closes. This happens both with tabs from last session as well as newly opened bookmarks. Both on Windows 10 and Linux (MX Linux, Debian 9). Only one tab has to be "sacrificed" apparently, so I usually open the last bookmark twice.

What could be causing this? I attached what Extensions I'm currently using.

Under Ubuntu. If an application is set to be the default file handler for a certain type of file, Firefox will allow you to open such a download directly in the application. To do this, it saves the file in a temporary location, and then hands over to the application. The problem is that the location firefox uses under Linux is /tmp and modern snap and flatpak desktop apps are not allowed to see /tmp.

For instance, a .deb file is an installable software package. Ubuntu naturally uses the Software app to handle .deb files. But Software is a sandboxed snap app, and it won't open files in /tmp

The workaround of saving files and opening them from the app works, but it defeats the purpose of having registered file handlers.

And I do not know how to get firefox to save temporary download files somewhere else. I can't find any relevant configuration option.

I tried editing the firefox launcher:

env TMPDIR=/home/tim/tmp_firefox firefox

but it still uses /tmp

This problem has been around since the latest version of the old version, and has carried across into the new version. Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V no longer work with Google Translate on linux. I have tested in other browsers and it they all work fine. Firefox on Windows also works fine, this problem seems specific to linux.

When you press any of the Ctrl combinations it simply deselects everything and moves the cursor to the end of the text. Mouse works, but it's not practical if you are cutting and pasting all day long.

Site: https://translate.google.com Firefox version: 89.0.2 (64-bit) OS: Ubuntu 20.04

Google Translation is critical to my work so my current solution is I no longer use Firefox. I hope that someone knows of a quick fix, or if it's a bug it's easy to fix as I'd hate to permanently move away from Firefox for something like this.

Thanks!

I am unable to find the menu option under "Web Developer Tools" -> "..." drop down menu as described at the below page.

https://extensionworkshop.com/documentation/develop/debugging/#debugging-popups

Also manually changing the "about:config" properties related to "devtools.popup.disable_autohide" and "ui.popup.disable_autohide" appear to have no effect at stopping html popups from being hidden when selecting the web developer tools window.

Is anyone else able to make this work?

I found the following curious commit which makes it sound like it may have been disabled on purpose, but I'm uncertain.
