I've installed all updates recently (win7/x64) apart from Windows Live Essentials.
In firefox (umm... 3.6.3), a single word search in the location bar, eg; "facebook", results in a bing page, not going to facebook.com, or showing google results like it used to.
Multi-word searches resolve with google.
I don't have any tool bars installed. Google is my default search engine. About:config keywordURL is set to google. "search helper extension" doesn't appear in add-ons, nor does zugo or bing bar. I've disabled all add-ons, restarted. Same result. I started in safe mode Same result.
I've removed bing from IE8, set google as default. There are no toolbars installed.
I've searched my programs list. Nothing mentioned appears, everything seems fine. I looked at recent updates, nothing related to "search". I've looked in program files/program files (x86) for Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack\ but no such folder exists. I searched regedit for "bing", few results, but nothing that seemed linked with FF.
Why is bing showing up? I don't want it, I didn't ask for it, and I can't get rid of it.

I started Firefox, sirens blared, I thought I had been hit with a virus. Went to Google to search for a solution and found PacMan on their home page, apparently the problem. Now when I leave Google website, sound continues. How do I shut this off, other than going to Internet Explorer?

As you can see preview windows on YouTube don't load. Also - user menu won't show.
I think it's a problem with flash plug-in, since the problem started right after I was updating it (even though I didn't need to I guess). And that leads to another problem; I tried to update it since instead of videos on people's profiles I would get error saying that I got Java Script disabled or old Flash version - it was wrong then, it is wrong now - now, cause it still gives me that error.
I post here, because on Google Chrome YouTube works perfectly fine.
I tried to reinstall flash, didn't help. Some suggestions?
EDIT: Also, now I see that YouTube on Firefox got some basic problems with functionality, like can't view "more" of videos description and so on... eh. It gots to be flash or something.
Firefox won't open a PDF link in the browser, when I click on the link the screen just goes to a blank blue screen.
As a former programmer, I am dismayed that such a poor version would be released! It reminds me of dealing with Windows 98!

I'm baffled as to why this is still a problem. After a few hours of use, my memory usage while using Firefox 5.0 is at 1.5GB. I've followed every FAQ, disabled every extension, done everything to stop the memory leaks when using this browser and I'm growing very tired.
I have a Core i7 MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM and Firefox still manages to bring it to it knees. I've been a devoted Firefox user since 2002-3 and I've just about lost my faith in this browser.
Chrome is a featureless, ugly, dinky browser that I hate to use, but it leaves Firefox in its dust performance-wise. Where is the happy medium? I don't get it.
My favorite answer is always, "disable your extensions." Here are the problems with that:
1. Without extensions, Firefox is nothing. I might as well use Chrome. 2. It never seems to help, and when it does a little, it is difficult to figure out which extensions are doing the most damage. Why doesn't Firefox provide a way to look at which extensions are using the most memory? 3. Firefox should lay that smack down on extensions that could potentially leak memory, and yet, nothing. It should at least steal memory back when it gets out of control, regardless of what extension is using it. 4. Mozilla recommends some extensions that are supposed to help reduce memory usage, but none of them work on OS X.
I'm exhausted. I shouldn't have to restart my browser a million times day to get anything done. Where are the real solutions? How do years go by with problems like this still getting worse? Firefox 5 was supposed to be better at handling memory, but it's only gotten worse for me.
When will the madness end? We don't want new features, we want performance! I've always loved this browser, but is it really a surprise that Chrome is taking over?
To sum it up, if your browser is slower than Internet Explorer, you need to hurry up and fix the problem or pack it up and go home.

I have Firefox version 5.0.1 on MS windows XP. My problem is that Firefox open a website automatically at a new tab from time to time which is very annoying. I have scanned my computer for viruses and malwares using lot of programs but this did not fix this annoying problem.

I have Firefox 4.0 installed on my laptop. It is a work machine so there is no ability to tell me to upgrade my ram, it's not possible unless it I take it out of a non-existent budget.
I have 512 MB ram, I run Windows XP Pro with no effects on, I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+.
Everything on my system before firefox runs takes up 120MB.
After running only Firefox with no additions, and on a blank, or only one page open with no java or flash on it (I know this because I created said pages), Firefox balloons up to 150 MB... if I leave for lunch and come back it is up to 350 MB... with the same two pages open.
Now I know Firefox uses memory, but what is the reason for this? This is not a memory leak, this is a memory hemorrhage...
If someone says I need to run in safe mode, I don't think so... the last version of Firefox 3.6 ran fine, and although it had a memory leak, it was nothing as bad as this.
I develop web pages, I use PHP and CSS... these are not memory intensive languages... so what is going on?

Shortly after starting Firefox the "music" reminiscent of Pac-Man starts. It is only on Firefox (haven't tried Thunderbird) even following an uninstall and re-install of Firefox. Just started today. Am using XP Home SP3.

The previous one always asked if I wante tabs saving when I closed it but this version (4) does not.
Is there a way of making it ask?
