My old hard drive refused to boot.

I got a new one, formatted it, and copied everything I "thought" I needed from the old one...nothing has been touched, it's all still there, in the case but not plugged in. I did not move any OS files, nor any files from progams folders.

I fresh-installed firefox on my new hard drive and quickly reconstructed my pwd protected accounts from memory.

I'm looking for help here, not a lecture on these newer approaches using master passwords. Gotta live my life my way, eh?

Anyway, now it's year end and I'm having password woes with a few accounts. As they are fiscal, they tend to lock out after 2-3 tries -- sometimes I'm told how many several days, I tend to default and try again after 3. I'm running out of time.

If I fire up the old hard drive and grab those two files, putting them in a dedicated subdirectory, can I retrieve those passwords?

Can you confirm the precise files names, and the most likely subdirectories I will find them in.

Yup, I'm that much of a dinosaur. You may have folders, but I have subdirs.

Cheers and thanks in advance for an answer that works. Or will firefox try to show me the passwords from the current files, not the old ones.

I expect that each page / tab in firefox is placed in its own thread.

However, I experience that when one page gets stuck .. javascript is caught in a wait loop .. that this affects other pages.

Is there something in FireFox that I can change to insure that each page is in it's own thread, and doesn't affect another page's performance?

Hello, John aka Beer Gutt here.

A while ago (about three months), I moved my hard drive to a new PC with better parts. It has a better mother board, a better graphics card and twice the RAM. Anyway, since then Firefox hasn't worked the same. When i open Firefox, there will be random pieces of letters or words on a webpage just gone, making a lot of them impossible to browse because I can't read half of the the new Alien dialect on the screen. Some websites have been better than others, but its gotten to the point where some web pages (Like YouTube or Reddit for example.) will just be a mess of random de fragmented lime green blocks that completely corrupt the page and will shift, move and appear at random covering up text as I scroll down. Videos will play just fine, it's the rest of the site that's effed up. Also on YouTube videos, where the timer for the video is located, some of the numbers just won't show up. Like it will count down fine but won't display certain numbers in the timer. Funny thing is, is that this doesn't just affect the websites, but the browser itself. For example, hovering my mouse over different tabs will highlight them and show me the preview text of the tab. All that is good until I move over to a different tab and voila, the text is gone, and then suddenly all the other tabs are either blank or just missing random letters and numbers in the tab. This is only happening in Firefox btw. No other app on my PC is doing this. I've tried refreshing Firefox about six times now, I've uninstalled it three times in an attempt to fix the issue along with restarting my PC multiple times... All of that, and I find out yesterday that it works perfectly when in "Troubleshoot/Safe mode", and only when in Troubleshoot/Safe mode. I have no idea what is causing the issue... *PePeLaugh*
See, I would use another browser but I've been using Mozilla for 8-9 years and would like to avoid the hassle of moving everything to a new browser... I would VERY much appreciate any help at all.
I'm running 64-bit windows 8.1 on the latest updates and my PC specs are roughly as follows below. I look forward to a response...

MSi 970 Gaming Motherboard

AMD FX(tm) 8350 Eight-Core Processor 4.00 GHz

24 gigs of RAM

Asus Radeon R9 380 Graphics card

Since sometime in August 2021, I suspect after an update, occasionally when I launch Firefox it reports that it was unable to restore a previous session. I do not have the option to open previous sessions selected. On other occasions it starts properly with a blank page as it is configured to do.

Am I missing a setting?

It is not a major problem, I can simply enter a URL or search string in the address bar and it works properly for the rest of the session.

It is happening both on my Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 10 Pro PCs running the 64-bit version of Firefox.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello! I have a problem with Firefox. Whenever I have selected text and I press the control key, that text becomes unselected. Is like I lost focus of the window or the input text when I'm pressing the control key.

This is really annoying because it makes copy and paste really complicated. Most of the times I have to select the text and right click - "Copy" instead of a simple "Control + C". This only happens on Firefox, as on Chrome the control key works as expected.

I'm on Linux.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you so much!

I've dug deep around the internet for this and seem to find variations on this issue throughout Firefox' history going back many years. I've found articles that detail problems similar to mine dating back 5+ years.

Essentially, when I increase the playback speed on videos, most notably on Udemy but also on other sites like Youtube or Twitch, after a few seconds and sometimes a few minutes, the sound begins to crackle. The same thing happens when I switch tabs from one video and switch back to the video playback tab.

I've eliminated internet connection speeds (tried in three different locations with two different computers) as a potential issue, tried tweaking multiple settings in the about:config section, enabled/disabled various windows services and enabled/disabled hardware acceleration and tried safe mode with all extensions disabled. This issue does not happen in Chrome or Edge on either of my two machines. This is purely isolated to Firefox.

I've tried every fix I could find with no resolution. I love Mozilla and the what the company stands for and would love to continue using the product, but the constant crackling as I'm trying to learn new skills is on the verge of driving me crazy. It would seem that such a fundamental HTML5 concept as video playback would be well tested and well engineered in Firefox, but as I mentioned, I'm seeing the same issue on multiple machines in multiple environments.

Any additional help anyone has to offer would be much appreciated.

I read that Firefox will using the Snap version by default on Ubuntu 21.10 and beyond. Will the non-Snap version still be available in lets say Ubuntu 22.04 and beyond? The reason I ask is because I use Firejail to sandbox Firefox and Firejail doesn't work with Snaps and yes I know that Snaps and Flatpacks both sandbox apps but I prefer Firejail because of the Private Home profile (nothing is saved in this profile settings, bookmarks, add-ons etc) its way more secure than the sandbox offered by a Snap.

So i have noticed a sudden changed in firefox when i open it and been landed over to my homepage instead of where i left before which usually as "about:newtab" page and in setting there is only option to use firefox default or blank. i would rather preffered to have my home button set with my custom url, as well keeping the option to land on newtab page when ever i start my browser. which was intended as before but not since last update. now there is no option to set newtab page as also a custom url which can be any thing but forced to use the default layout by firefox. that proceed to open a homepage every time when i launch firefox.

I am using customized shortcuts for Cut, Copy, Paste and find similar cu the keyboard shortcut on Windows PC Ctr+C, Ctr+V. These shortcut are working for all other applications including Safari and Chrome. None of them is working fro Firefox. I need to use CMD+C, CMD+V and so on. I do not have any language packs added except the primary English US. This is the main reason why I am not using Firefox for the most part. I reinstalled the appliaiton af ew times, I have created a secodn profile on MAC and Firefox, I start in refresh mode, issue is still there. Any solution to this issue?
