I recently got a new computer set up. I set up a Sync account, to get all of my info over properly. Everything seemed to install fine, no problem. But my add-ons are acting funny. I can open Firefox a few times, no issue. All of my add-ons are active, in their proper places on my toolbars, everything. Then I open it, I go to look at my add-ons, and it tells me I have no extensions (but I still see those that I have shown on my toolbars (such as the buttons for a download manager, ad-block, session manager, personas, etc...) I close firefox, reopen it, and I have a dozen "install add-on" tabs pop up asking me if I want to install add-ons that I did have, until that moment, already installed. I de-selected the add-on sync feature, and thought everything was fine, but it did it again a good day after I had deselected that sync option, so not sure what it's doing. TL:DR- Firefox keeps swearing I don't have add-ons, even when I see them on my screen (just not in extensions tab), and restarting Firefox asks me to reinstall all add-ons I already had.

My computer is an older quad-core intel based system, running Vista64 Ultimate. I have used Firefox for years, and have the latest version. Amazon.com Instant Video is asking me to install Silverlight which I have been trying to do but find that when I download the .exe file and run it I get an error message telling me that my operating system does not support 64bit (huh?) The Microsoft site has no obvious support for this download anywhere. What do I do?

I tried using other browsers, and its seems to work...

Its only with firefox, and i love to use this, but if not i will be migrating to another browser, its just to much not to be able to go through your search results properly.

Please help and thanks!

when a site uses flash, for example cam4 (a chat/camera website like Chatroulette), if i click a name from the users list on the chat section to open their profile on a new tab, the whole browser will freeze for about 5 seconds and then it will open the new tab.

however when using chrome or ie i don't have that problem. i have disabled addons, made a new profile. nothing works.

i have come to the conclusion that it's the websites fault, since friends that use the same website and firefox also face the issue.

now the big question. is this browser lock related to the flash itself? or it's because firefox doesn't sandbox/multi-process it's processes?

Hi
I've some hosts computers using active directory and multiple users loginng on them. For some reasons I need to force disabling history for all users.
I'm using Firefox 41.0.1
According to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
I've created a local-settings.js file sored in c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\ Containing 2lines of text:
pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);
pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
Next i've created mozilla.cfg file stored in instalation directory c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
Containing :
//
defaultPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.cache", true); lockPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies", true); defaultPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.downloads", true); defaultPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.formdata", true); defaultPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.history", true); defaultPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps", true); lockPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.passwords", true); lockPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions", true); defaultPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.siteSettings", true); defaultPref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.openWindows", true);
When i go to about:config everything seems to be fine, all options are set as in the mozilla.cfg file (screenshot attached). But history isn't cleared on shutdown.
Simply check is to go to some web page and close cookies notification appears. After firefox shutdown, restart when i go to the same web page there's no cookies notification.
Am i missing something ?
Or maybe theres better way to block keeping the history for all users ?

When I open a new tab, I want it to go directly to www.google.com. I do not want any other history tiles on the page. I have gone to browser:newtab.url to make sure it is set to google. It is. What I would like is very simple, but apparently impossible to do with Firefox.

When I open a new tab I want google to appear with the focus set in the search box. That's it.

I have tried changing the config and using 3rd party add-ons.

Is there a way to do this? Why is it so difficult to do in Firefox what is so easy to do in IE?

Windows 10. Firefox version 41.0.1

This problem just started this morning. Firefox used to give me the option to open or save an image when I right clicked on the image and chose the "Save Image as..." option. Now it goes directly to the save option by opening my last directory location. As I wrote at the beginning of this question, this problem just started.

I have already gone to "Tools/Options/Applications/JPG File" and set it to "Always Ask." That did not work, I still do not get the "Open With" option. This is obviously not the solution.

I don't think I checked the "Always perform this action for this type of file" box because this problem now exists for all file types, including PDF and Word documents. None of them give me the option to open the document anymore.

I am not interested in any convoluted "work around" solutions, I just need to restore the option to view the image/document option that was previously available.

I have included full operating system and browser details (available from "Question Details" menu at the right) if anyone needs them.

Whenever I make a post on a forum, my message also contains some random number. I do no write these numbers, nor do I see them while writing the message.

I have tried clearing the cache, reinstalling firefox, deactivating my plugins and reactivating them one at a time. Nothing helps. The problem is not on the forums' side as I tried with another browser and no numbers appear.
