There are just so many people complaining about Firefox 4 - all with the same basic problem - Firefox 4 consumes far-too much memory and appears to increase memory usage over time.

So far I have heard NOTHING from Mozilla regarding this problem.

Have Mozilla identified the problem? Is there a work around? When will there be a permanent fix?

In Firefox 3.6.16 (and presumably other earlier versions) one could force FF to offer to remember user ids and passwords for many sites by editing the file ...\Mozilla Firefox\components \nsLoginManager.js to ignore site- requested autocomplete disabling (_isAutocompleteDisabled returns false).

FireFox 4 does not use that file or any similar that I was able to find.

Can the result (FF ignores site attemps to turn off autocomplete) be achieved in some other way or by editing some other file?

Is anyone else having trouble with the back and forward buttons not working in FireFox 4? I installed 4 on an XP desktop and a Vista 64 laptop, and the forward and back buttons don't work on either installation. Does anyone know a fix for this? I tried deleting the "places" files in the profile and that does not help.

A few websites I go to have blue text where white text should be. I looked at other threads and tired what people suggested, but nothing worked. I tired doing it on Google Chrome same thing happens but when I did it on Internet Explorer the text appeared white and normal.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I was viewing my watchlist on Ebay, when the whole page was replaced by a page saying I had 11 viruses in My Docs, 3 viruses in Files and 11 on my hard-drive. The options to "remove" or "cancel" resulted in "You have chosen to open Best Antivirus 2011"...which meant I had now downloaded it! I scanned the computer with my antivirus program and sure enough, IT found 3 threats...each being "Best Anti Virus 2011". I have repeated scan/removal 5 times, but it is re-embedding itself each time. SO MUCH FOR FIREFOX SECURITY! YOU have been hacked!

I have just obtained a new PC and installed Windows 7 Ultimate in 64 Bit. And as is usual for me DESPITE backing up etc the whole shebang blew up in my face! the back up failed and I had to re-install again! So question is I have the OLD operating system on the OLD HD so I can find things. So how do I find the old bookmarks etc. and move same to my NEW HD and so enjoy my old settings? Indeed is it possible to install AL of the old settings from the older copy of Firefox on my old drive? If so and it is a relatively easy thing to do please feel free to ridicule me but do at least offer to help? :-)

Hi I am using a Dell laptop running win7 my FF 3.6.16 runs roboform ver 6 no problems. I have also been running FF ver 4 which has also worked OK until a few days ago when it did an update. Now the Roboform tool bar is empty except for the Roboform Icon which if you run the pointer over it says "show or hide tool bar" but if you click on the Icon it Just loads the roboform download page. I cannot move over to using ff ver 4 until roboform works

I have been using Firefox because my son-in-law recommended it. I have been really satisfied with the 3.x.x.x. Then I got an update note to go to Firefox 4. It really disarms the reason to use Firefox. FF looks like and feels like IE. So that said, what's the point of you folks?

I attempted to uninstall ff4, but couldn't figure it out, so I just downloaded FF 3.6.xx. Since then, I like the handle and feel of what I was using before getting sucked into the mire of FF4.

If FF4 is a beta, then beta make it with the same top portion like the last version of 3 I like the 'File - Edit - View - History - Bookmarks - Tools - Help on top and not buried in an inaccesable menu. I threw away MS Office 2007 in favor of Office 3 because it was somewhat a-kin to changing a baby's dirty diaper while wearing boxing gloves. I'm not too skilled in computer management, but like art, food, automobiles, I may not know much about these things, but I do know what I like.

If you are going to change Firefox to a clone of IE, then so be it. I may have to try to use the browser Safari, that came with my Apple I-Touch. I have it on all my computers. It too is for free, and I need to use it to access some Apple applications. It is adequate, a little clumsy but adequate. I haven't taken the initiative to use it on a regular basis, so I can't make a quality judgment. It works well from the Touch, and the only drawback is the touch screen is too sensitive for my sense of touch.

Thanks for the soap box, but I downloaded and installed FF4 looking forward to a faster, sharper, better, easier to handle, but found the same look and feel as the later Microsoft applications and programs. Disappointing at best

I can’t comment on Fox news, disqus is not responding. I have an account with Fox News and can login without trouble. When I try to comment or reply to articles a window will open and three dots will appear. At this point I should be able to type in a comment. The status line shows a number of servers at work but never completing a connection.

The tabs are changed and also a few knobs are on a different place. Read the comments and problems on FF4. I had made an backup file and moved back to 3.6. If FF4 is your new to go, be happy with it. But without me, and I can tell you This: many will move to other browsers on the way FF4 works now.

I keep getting demands to update my version of firefox every time I wake up my computer, but I use a Power PC and the newest version isn't compatible. Please, either create a version that will work with OS 10.5.8 or fix the updater so it does a comparison between the OS of the host and the system requirements of the update. I know you should be able do it because you have the full details of my PC listed below. Otherwise, I'll probably give up firefox because of the nuisance value! Sorry

I lost my "latest headlines" from BBC bookmark -- i click on it & nothing happens; I tried to delete various bookmarks & they dont delete; I tried to follow articles, but, cannot reset anything it seems, and I dont have a turbutton in my extension to follow those directions for lost bookmarks. My titles are there, but, they are unusable. AND, i cannot just go back to main screens as back buttons are greyed out, and, i have to close firefox and start over every time to get google.

http://search.youtubedownloader.org/?f=# keeps replacing active pages, when on another tab, opening a new tab or refreshing. Have looked through Addons but nothing stands out. If a webpage has been replaced using the back button listing only 'Custom Search' is available. Please advise on stopping this very annoying problem.

I was using Firefox 3.??? and was prompted to upgrade to a newer version. I agreed to up-grade to 3.6.16 but when I went to download this I was fed Firefox 4. I have tried using 4 for about two weeks on an old Vaio laptop running Windows XP. It is unbelievably slow and crashes in every other site. Watching video online? Forget it. I loathe this new browser.

I have just uninstalled 4 and reinstalled 3.6.16. This was very easy (a) download 3.6.16 from FileHippo or similar source. Go to your [drive name]:/programs/mozilla/firefox/uninstall folder and click on uninstall. Do not click the tab which uninstalls your personal bookmarks and add-ons etc. 4 is gone. Don't need to reboot. Just click on 3.6.16 and install. Everything up and running in one minute. 3.6.16 is what I expect from Firefox -- easy to use, lightening fast, and no site crashes (except when visiting this site, curiously enough). Will be staying with 3.6.16 for a year or so to give the nice folks at Mozilla time to (a) tar and feather those responsible for this fiasco then burn them at the stake (b) scrap 4 and (c) go straight to Firefox 5 without stopping at Go or picking up $200 as they pass.

So, my question, is Firefox 4 the worst browser ever? I dunno but it is certainly the worst Mozilla browser I've ever tried using. Do you agree? Discuss.

Hello, I updated Firefox (now the icon is Firefox logo and 45r on my desktop). About the same time, I updated some Add-Ons, as suggested on Firefox website. Now - when I try to log-in with bank website, I type in my user name - and I get the message 'Your online ID and/or location is missing, Please try again.' Initially I thought that it was the bank web-page - but this has been going on for daaays now, so I suspect it is some setting.... ALSO - I started getting re-routed to a strange web-page (this happens randomly), when changing, going to a link on various web sites. oops. The strange website is 'Net Assistant' and it seems to want to help search, I always back out (frequently this takes a few attempts). I cleaned the cache, got rid of cookies and mopped the floor- (just kidding on that), and I'm not sure what else to do! eek. I do not have a specific time - or event to relate these two problems to, but I suspect it is either Firefox 4 (45r?) or one of the suggested add-on updates that I did. Actually, there is a 3rd, probably related problem: My homepage is NPR (http://www.npr.org/) and whenever I click on Firefox (45r) icon, NPR page loads, but I get a message across the top - under address bar, that says 'Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page.' Not sure what's-up with that either. p.s. The BofA page has the green 'safe' sign on the address bar.

What a confusing mess. Help! I need to get online with the bank, so I can pay my bills on time!

All of a sudden, when I put a subject in the Yahoo search engine, and I get all the "hits" listed, I can no longer just click on them and they go to the web site. NOW each time I get a box titled "Opening" that say "You have chosen to open" and then says things like "which is a: application/octet-stream' and "from: http//search.yahoo.com". Then "What should firefox do with that file?" and I can choose "Open with [Browse]" or "Save File" with an "OK" and "Cancel" button. When I try "Open with" and use Browse I get lots of choices but none of them will work. What changed? Do I have malware in my computer? I am ready to just give up on FireFox and move to Chrome, which works just fine. Any help out there????

Some of extensions i used in 3.6 were not available on 4.0. Also i couldn't realise a speed advance with 4.0. Nothing to consider as a revolution at first sight. So as lots of people i think this upgrade has no real benefits. However, i've been using mozilla/firefox for about 6 years and these are not enough reasons to give up and select another browser instead. I wonder when will we get our extensions back?

This doesn't happen on every single page, but VERY often when a new page loads (ie: gmail, Facbook login...) as soon as it is done loading i hear a loud high pitched sound. Far too often. It almost seems connected with the other problem Im having. When I get to a log in screen, the login box is filled at the same time as the sound, but the other annoying thing is to get rid of the pre-filled info (says enter login name, or enter phone #...) I have to double click and delete it. I know that is small, but with both issues all the time it really drives a guy nuts and slows down work.
