I have noticed recently that several ports associated with Firefox remain open when the Firefox browser is closed. The number of open ports increases each time Firefox is opened and I have seen that the number of open ports has reached to more than 1,000 open ports at a time. The majority of the open ports are outbound TCP using port 443 and I also note a sustained increase in the network traffic after Firefox is closed.
I have observed ports opened by the Explorer browser and noted that all of the ports opened with Explorer close when the Explorer browser is closed. The Firefox ports remain open when the browser is closed.
Questions: - Should all open ports associated with an open Firefox browser close when the Firefox browser is closed? - Does Firefox have a setting that closes all open ports when the Firefox browser is closed? - Does XP have a setting that will close all open ports associated with Firefox when Firefox is closed? - Should I have security concerns about the accumulating open ports and increased network activity when using Firefox?
Thanks.

A recent update of Firefox included the OpenH264 Video Codec. This software is made by Cisco Systems Inc. They are a known military contractor of the U.S Department of Defense, who helps the U.S. government spy on everyone. Every single piece of software that comes from this company is suspect and should be considered malware and spyware. About a month ago I posted a question asking why Mozilla was doing business with them and asked how to remove it completely from my computer. The only response I got was a bot response explaining how to disable it, which I made clear was not enough. There was no no explanation given as to why they were doing business with a company like Cisco. I'm sure that if more Firefox users were aware of these facts they would be just as concerned as I am. I'm still waiting to hear back from Mozilla on this issue. They apparently consider the issue close. I do not.

I don't want this feature showing at all. At best it is of no use to me and at worst I will go adding search providers by mistake with misclicks.

'security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy' screws up my web pages; regardless of 'true' or 'false' settings. When set to 'true', DOM cannot assign a reference object; such as, 'var myWindow = window.open("","theMessage")'; therefore, the first parameter must hold a URL if the message window is to have any content.
How can I delete of completely eliminate this 'feature'? I've tried installing a version of Firefox before this 'feature' was added but other problems "popped-up" when Firefox tried to render images; border-frames where none should be; just the first thing i noticed.
What i wish for is some damn consistency between all browser, DOM, CSS, and HTML. If it works, why screw it up with unnecessary changes? I plan to drop out of WEB Page design and work with Delphi, instead. I just wanted to finish this last WEB page without all the hassles of the 'feature' in this comment.

In the last week or so, Firefox usually comes up with a message that it crashed unexpectedly after I close it. It has never actually crashed, but it keeps saying it did. I have tried refreshing it, but it continues to give me the error messages.
What problems could cause it to tell me repeatedly that firefox is crashing when otherwise it seems to work fine?

Hi, I've been a Firefox user for a decade, despite three attempts to switch to Chrome. But this is getting on my nerves. I'm in the middle of something and suddenly the browser freezes - I can move the cursor over whatever bookmarks, menu items, tabs or content but nothing responds. It's exactly as if the entire browser had turned into a printscreen. I get no crash report afterwards, I just close and restart it. This has been going on for quite a few months now. I'm using the latest version by the way.
Extensions I use: Adblock Colorzilla Diigo Toolbar Evernote webclipper Fireshot Pin It buton Video Download helper Wisestamp Lazarus Form Recovery
And quite a few other plugins.

Is there a way to restore all the history back or not? Could it have been that the history was getting overfilled and it cleared itself? Thanks a lot!

Hello, Thanks for reading. Question. How can I keep Firefox from "stealing focus" (moving to forward of page view)--when I have to restart based on the inevitable crash?
It use to be that it would open to a "System Restore" (type feature, allowing just one window to then open each desired respectively).
However, even if that option is still available, how can I keep FF from stealing focus?
Thanks!
PS-Yes, 36.x is intentional. (it's not fixed in 39. I know for my purposes/testing).

Since the last 1 month have started to get a weird issue on Firefox. Have auto update turned on, so not sure which version the issue started occurring.
Every time the screen turns off, computer goes to stand by or sleep, Firefox stops working. The only option is to restart the computer.
The browser would continue to respond, but it would not connect to internet, basically it does not do anything. Try closing the browser and you would see it closes OK, but the process won't shut down.
Try Launching again, and it would say "FF is already running and option "Close Firefox"", but it won't be able to close firefox. Try killing the process and that won't work either.
Result is I have to restart the PC 4 to 5 times a day because FF just would not work and I do not feel comfortable using other browsers.

Have been plagued by unwanted ads on Firefox since Cinema HD 2.4cV20.03 appeared on my computer on March 20 2015. Have tried combinations of adblockers, add-ons, etc to no avail.
Firefox also keeps crashing, which is a nuisance.
I have tried, several times, to uninstall it via the control panel, but get into a loop when there's a message that I can get some PC Doctor thingie from a provider I've never heard of. It gives me the option to "just uninstall", which I click on, but nothing happens. I can't find Cinema HD 2.4cV20.03 in any search of my program files so as to be able to delete it that way.
Have refreshed Firefox (twice) and scanned my computer fully (via McAfee, which found and quarantined some nasties) but the wretched things still appear!
Any help you could offer would be most appreciated. I am behind in my work
Very best
