Hi. Every time I open Firefox it stays on the homepage for two seconds, then it exits and shows the "Firefox has crashed" window. Usually, I can restart the program in Safe Mode and then it works just fine, but I can't be on Safe Mode forever! I've tried restarting my computer, resetting Firefox, searching the Support site for answers, but nothing works. My version is 14.0.1 and it's up to date.

This is getting really annoying, help please?

My firefox keeps crashing, usually when I click links on web pages like ebay, amazon or sites that embed links to other sites. I have updated windows, drivers, plugins, reinstalled firefox latest version, done all the virus installations and checks recommended, used safe mode and basically gone through everything on the firefox crash troubleshooting advice page. I have got to the stage of asking for help on this forum. Can anyone advise what to try next? My machine is a one year old Dell Inspiron in fine form and virus free, runs 64-bit on windows 7.

Updated my Firefox to version 8 this morning, since then I have been unable to use Firefox. Each time I double-click my icon on my desktop, Firefox crashes. I can't click on any web links in emails otherwise Firefox crashes. Yes I have updated my plug-ins, updated Windows, done everything. Nothing works, and of course getting a hold of Firefox technical support is impossible since it doesn't even appear to exist. How wonderful it is to not even be able to use Firefox and check my sites I have bookmarked. I use Windows XP Professional, not the latest and greatest, but Firefox stated that version 8 is compatible with Windows XP. I have been reporting the crashes all day long, with zero response.

I just upgraded my installation of FF3 to FF4 and the installation seemed to go off without a hitch.

I left the "Launch Firefox now" button ticked and hit finish. Then nothing...

I can see that the process is being started (from Task Manager), but it doesn't do anything. There is no safe mode option available for me to try and restart it, so my only option is to kill it.

I have tried installing normally, advanced, "Run as administror", restaring my PC; none of these worked. Every time the process starts, but nothing happends. Not even a task bar windows comes up.

In the end I had to download (in Internet Explorer, yuk!) an older version of Firefox (3) and reinstall using this. This at least made it work again, but I still can't get FF4 working!

I updated it on my other personal PC and it worked fine (all addons the same, but older hardware).

In case it's relevant, I have heard of some annoyances with hardware acceleration and if I could get to the option to turn it off I would.

My particular hardware is: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X980 @ 3.33GHz Memory: 12288MB RAM DDR3-1600MHz Hard Drive: RevoDrive X2 240GB Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 SLI Monitor: LG M237WDP 1920*1080 Sound Card: M237WDP-1 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio) Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.101026-1503) Motherboard: Asus Rampage III Extreme

All drivers are up-to-date, bar my OS which is fully up-to-date bar having SP1 installed. No other application are having problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have tried everything. I can not update Firefox because it won't open at all. I ran all my spyware and malware, deleted all my cookies, etc., made sure windows is update. After I did all that, and did all the scans and repairs, when I click on firefox, I still get the "crash reporter". The crash ID is the lastest one. Is there anything I can do or should I uninstall it and reinstall??

Each time Firefox wants me to upgrade to a new version, the longer I refuse, the more often it will crash my browser. This sort of conduct has been consistent over the past several updates, and so it must be done on purpose.

I REFUSE to upgrade to the current version, as I know that it is very unstable, and also incompatible with some of my programs which I WILL NOT uninstall for the sake of Firefox, just because its developers want me to.

Modzilla - get your act together and stop ENFORCING upgrades!

I tried to upgrade my v3.6.15 to v4. The first part of the install went OK, then it asked for a reboot to finish the process. When I reboot and try to open Firefox I get the same reboot message. I tried it four time with the same results. So I thought I would just uninstall and start again ... but because the install was never properly completed, I can't take it out. So I am stuck, frustrated, and up against some deadlines. Help!

I opened Firefox after a restart and it suddenly crashed (didn't even create a crash report). When I reopened it again, it brought me up to the Restore Session error page and I click Restore. Unfortunately, it did not restore all my windows and tabs and I was missing three windows with tabs. I tried to bring the Restore Session error page and it was empty.

Luckily, I was able to recover an earlier version of sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak. However, when I copied them to the profile folder, it just opens one window of my home page. I am not sure what is going on here. Could someone (Firefox Tech Support) please look at these files to see what is going on? I really need those three windows!

Thank you for your time,

Running Windows 7 on one partition, and Windows 8 Consumer Preview on another, Firefox does not open for either. Firefox crashes upon opening without an error message. I have reinstalled and manually cleared profile information. If I create a new profile, it works until I close and try to relaunch requiring me to make a new profile. I have tried removing/reinstalling java as well (just in case), as I had been editing some of the java installation from my Windows 7 partition.

As I launch the Firefox, if I watch the task manager, Firefox.exe appears for a moment, but disappears almost immediately. No files appear in 'C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports' directory with the exception of the 'InstallTime*********' file.

  • Information posted in the "Troubleshooting Information" section below is from the Windows 8 Consumer Preview partition. There are some errors with my display driver not being updated properly, but Firefox -was- working on Windows 8 Consumer Preview until just recently, so I am assuming that is not part of the issue.
