Firefox 17.0.1 Win7

Some time ago -- somewhere and somehow -- I found a way to display all of my Bookmarks / Bookmark folders in a vertical column on the left side of my monitor. This list of Bookmarks "stuck" and appeared at all times.

It seems I must have recently accidentally clicked on something to cause this Bookmark list to disappear.

How do I get it back?

My objective is to make a global edit to the bookmarks in one folder. To do so, I exported to an HTML file, opened that file in Notepad, deleted all the other bookmarks, and did a search-and-replace to correct the ones I was trying to fix. Saved the file and attempted to import into Firefox. I *can* open the file and see the links, and I can use Import and Backup to get to the file and select it for import. However, after that, NOTHING happens.

Why is it so complicated to import my old Firefox bookmarks? I have a harddrive from my old computer (march 2012) in a ext hard drive enclosure which is attached to my new laptop via USB, and I can NOT find a simple way to import my old bookmarks. I wasted several hours today trying to do that. I have bookmarks-2012-02-07.json and I have places.sqlite. I want to >include< which ever file has my old bookmarks with the existing new bookmarks file. That’s it! Please don’t tell me to convert it HTML, it didn’t work.

I used Mozbackup to save my bookmarks and other profile info on my computer and then restored it onto my partners computer on my login - however in doing so I have managed to overwrite her profile. There is now only one profile folder (mine). Is there any way I can recover her profile info - especially bookmarks? Is there a recovery program I can use to find it lurking somewhere? I tried system restore to no avail.

Before reformatting my PC, I exported all my bookmarks via HTML file. I reformatted, installed Firefox, then tried to proceed with importing all my bookmarks. I go to the import function and choose the HTML bookmarks file and nothing happens at all. I tried using other browsers to import, but nothing happens. I am not sure how to fix this.

I thought maybe I could transfer the HTML file into a JSON file, but I couldn't find a way to do so, even after renaming the file extensions. Could the HTML file be possibly be corrupted? I'm out of ideas on how to import my bookmarks!

I really need to fix this, please help!

When you go to make a new bookmark, the "Page Bookmarked" dialog screen appears. It shows the folder that the bookmark will be placed into - by default, the top-level folder, usually "Bookmarks Menu". It used to be the case (at least up to version 12) than if you expand this, it will default to the last used folder within your bookmarks. It doesn't do that anymore - it stays "Bookmarks Menu" and I have to scroll all the way down and look forthe folder I want to use... Any way to fix this? I don't want to keep scrolling when I need to place several bookmarks into the same folder. Maybe through about:config? Thanks in advance.
