Why Gemini window opens when I click on bookmarks?

Just as the summary says, Used to have an icon that I put under the "hamburger" menu on the bookmarks toolbar that opened the bookmarks menu. Can't remember how I got it there. Can someone help me get it back.
When I create a new bookmark folder, it has the name "new folder." How do I change it to something more meaningful?
I do not want the bookmark toolbar. I have checked it to never show, but it reappears when I open a new window or when I first sign on.
For some reason I can't add my bookmarks to my taskbar.

I recently updated Firefox on my computer. After that, I can't find my old Bookmarks.
Also I find that I am UNABLE to add any new Bookmark. When I click on the 'Star' in the browser toolbar, there is nothing. Before I used to Get the Add Bookmark tab and a place to SAVE, now there is nothing.
Even after I type in the URL in the address bar, and open up the required page, I am unable to Add it to my Bookmarks.

the toolbar with all my bookmarks is gone. The bookmark manager is empty and when I try and bookmark a tab, I cannot Save. The Save Button is grayed out.

I have a pretty through bookmark system. I use folders a lot, and the little window that pops up presents too much confusion if there are a lot of folder already open from previous bookmarking. Is there a method to have bookmark manager open by default upon selecting the bookmark star and allow me to bookmark the current page? Is there a default setting that will open the small bookmark window with all folders closed? If not how do I go about making a suggestion to Mozilla to include this in their next upgrade.
