Hello everyone. Since installing Linux Mint in May 2023 I have been having this issue with Firefox.

Description of issue: When I switch between (or drag) tabs in a Firefox window, the whole window becomes unresponsive, with the last tab I was switching from still in front. Often the contents of the window start to flash (disappear and reappear, leaving a black backgground) every 2 seconds. I can drag the window around, scroll, minimize it, but it is impossible to give any input in any tab. The only action somewhat possible to do inside the window is bring other tabs in front, it is still quite hard for the input to register, and if it does, it takes 10+ seconds. The issue goes away if I close the specific Firefox window, or if I manage to select and drag one tab out of the frozen window into its own new window. Then everything works as intended, like nothing ever happened.

I can reliably cause the freeze-up in a short time by holding CTRL+TAB and drag one tab to change the order while firefox cycles through the tabs in the open window.

While the window is frozen, the rest of the desktop is responsive as normal, even other Firefox windows. If I try to interact with the frozen window I can rarely see spikes of CPU usage. RAM stays at normal usage levels, far from being full.

What I have tried so far that has had no effect on the appearance of the issue:

1) Disabling all extensions i have

2) Run in troubleshooting mode

2) "Create a new places database" as suggested [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding#w_fi...]

3) Disabled hardware acceleration

4) Creaing a new firefox user profile

5) Use "Refresh Firefox" from the troubleshooting page

6) Use the Flatpak version of firefox

7) Reinstall firefox

Here is my system information

I have noticed a bug with how the Firefox icon appears when launched in the Windows 11 taskbar when the never group option is enabled. When Firefox is launched and is the only application open in the taskbar, there is no label present next to the icon like other programs have when launched. There is the little line underneath the icon though indicating it is launched but that is it. As soon as I open another application though, the label will also appear for Firefox. This is only a minor annoyance but is definitely as bug at least for me and should be pretty easy to fix. I will attach screenshots of the behavior. In the first screenshot, you can see that Firefox is open but has no Text label like it is supposed to. The second screenshot is as soon as I open a second application.

I am on Windows 11 Home 23H2 Build 22631.2792 Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22681.1000.0 Firefox Version: 120.0.1

Yesterday Firefox started closing at random, sometimes instantly as soon as I open it. The crash dialog doesn't open, and if I go to about:crashes my most recent unreported crash is from 2019. Tried refreshing, reinstalling, completely wiping all profiles and starting fresh. If I use troubleshooting mode it won't open properly at all. I am at a bit of a loss, any ideas?

I don't remember with which version of Firefox for Linux this issue started; but I cannot play multiple videos at once. If I open two tabs with video sources one of the videos will automatically pause if I start watching the second one.

I have tried disabling my add-ons but the issue persists and I don't think there should be any reason for any of them interfering with videos.

Currently running Firefox 120.0 (64-bit - Arch Linux)

Scrolling in Firefox is causing any webpage to scroll many lines at once with a single click, and it seems to be exclusively happening to Firefox, as every other application scrolls normally. I have tried searching here and elsewhere for a solution, and I have tried to change about:config settings based on the recommendations I could find to no avail. I have also tried to refresh Firefox and have used Troubleshoot Mode, but those too have not worked. I have no clue as to what could have caused this, as I have not been messing with any settings prior to this.

I've got a question/suggestion about Picture in Picture feature. Why "Close" button works the same as "Back to Tab"?

Scenario: Close the Picture in Picture video by clicking on the [X] button or Cmd+W shortcut.

Actual result: Picture in Picture closes and Firefox window opens, on the tab containing the video. This is very strange behaviour. If I close the video, I don't want to watch it now. Essentially "Close" button works exactly like "Back to Tab" button - so what's the point? If I wanted to switch to the tab - I would click on "Back to tab".

Expected result: I expect Picture in Picture video to close and nothing else to happen. Don't open the window/tab containing the video.

Thanks

Disabling acceleration removes artifacts, but videos runs poorly. These artifacts also appears in regular browsing. Intel GPU on latest driver. Since it works in Chrome with the same GPU on the same driver, the problem is in Firefox. Artifacts not there when running Furmark gfx burn in. So problem is not in the hardware. Problem still persistent even on numerous updates of Firefox. Windows 11, Intel HD Graphics 620 GFX, latest driver, latest Firefox.

Audio issues using external devices with Google Meet

I use Google Meet multiple times a day for work meetings. After switching to Firefox from Chrome recently, I have noticed some persistent issues to do with audio from devices external to my laptop. I have a USB external microphone, a USB sound card that powers external speakers, and wired headphones that I use through the laptop's headphone jack. In macOS my default audio input is the external mic, and default output is the wired headphones.

The first issue that I noticed when using Firefox in meetings was that people reported an echoing effect on my audio. Audio from everyone else sounded fine to me. Changing my microphone source in Meet or in macOS did not seem to help, nor did disabling echo canceling in Meet. What did help was disconnecting the USB microphone completely. The impression that I got was that Meet was taking audio from both the USB mic and laptop mic at the same time, even though only the USB mic was selected. This has happened every time I used Meet.

The second issue that I noticed just happened for the first time today. (Note: I now have my USB mic unplugged until I can resolve the mic issue.) In macOS I had my wired headphones set as the audio output device. I joined a meeting, and I was hearing the meeting audio in my headphones and the external speakers (USB sound card) at the same time.

I've used Meet with Chrome for the last few years and never had this type of issue.

Something I have noticed that may be relevant is, when I open Meet in Chrome and go to the Meet settings, it shows my USB sound card and wired headphones as audio input/output options that I can select, in addition to the built-in laptop speakers. But when I open Meet in Firefox, the settings only show the USB sound card and laptop speakers for output - they don't show my wired headphones. FWIW, media.setsink.enabled is set to "true" already - I saw this mentioned as a solution in a similar question from 2022.

Is there anything I can check, or debugging data I can capture when this issue happens, which would help figure out the root cause?

Dear FF/Mozilla:

I've experienced a number of issues where I'm unable to do banking transactions using the FF browser. In one case, Wells Fargo bill pay does not work (but works fine with MS Edge); in another case, an international money link payment to a vendor in the UK would not go through using Firefox (but did first time with MS Edge). In yet another case, Firefox won't load webpage photos for items for sale on the site www.telescope.com - the page loads with descriptions but photos would not load (I just tried it and, nada). This remains the case even after my VPN is disconnected.

I've used FF for several years now without too much trouble but with this ongoing non-functionality of FF, I'm tempted to migrate to MS Edge or a browser that is supported more widely.

Any help or advice? Thanks, Blaine

Hi all!

I am using Firefox Multi-Account containers with Firefox 120.0.1 (64-bit) and the New Outlook desktop client with Windows 10(*). I have more than one Office 365/Outlook account, so I use different containers for each account.

Whenever I click on any link in New Outlook, it opens in one of my Firefox containers rather than in a default No Container tab.

Unfortunately, it opens in a container where I am logged into a different Office365 account than the one I use for the desktop client. This means any Office or organisation-specific links fail to work unless I copy and paste the link across.

Is there some way to force Outlook to open these tabs as No Container?

Thanks, penguinoid

(*) I'm using a university owned/managed computer and they've disabled the option to update to Windows 11

I'm a cybersecurity professional and I'm researching about Same Origin Policy, Cross Origin Resource Sharing and how firefox deal with those things. I've find out that versions before 102.1.0esr, cross-origin script GET requests used to attach cookies (Image 1), but in newer versions, it's not happening (Image 2). I checked the release notes but didn't find nothing about this change.

I would like to learn more about what changed and how Firefox is dealing with cookies, SOP and CORS.

Thanks!
