Desired behaviour Please add an option that would make Firefox update only when:
Current problem Currently, Firefox sometimes initiates an update while a session is still open — for example, when opening a new profile or seemingly at random. This interrupts active work and forces the update at an inconvenient time, meaning all tabs and workflow are disrupted.

Alternative approaches
Workaround difficulty At present, the only way to achieve this is by writing a script. This overly aggressive update behavior could instead be controlled by a simple setting for advanced users. Being overly concerned about security to this level, should be a user choice not force. Turning it off and making it manual is still not as helpful as automation.
Great work, I just noticed this occurring several times in the few months mid session. All good wishes

I'm running Firefox browser 88.0 (64) bit, and have been trying since before Xmas to upgrade it to a newer version. It's installed on an older Dell laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (which I've also tried repeatedly to upgrade without success).
I've tried to upgrade both through the UI, but also tried using the command line in Terminal. Per advice in other threads, I've found the best mirror site and changed my settings to use that, but still no luck. Even the preliminary "sudo apt update" via Terminal fails; the first error tells me that the public key is not available. I assume that's the place to start, but don't know how to correct it.
I'm up against the deadline for updating my browser, and would very much appreciate any help you can provide. (Please note that I'm posting from a newer computer, so automatically generated info about my system won't apply. See the screenshots for that info).

Greetings.
I am using an old Linux Mint version. I got messages that my Firefox needed to be updated.
I finally figured out how to do that and updated it. I started to use it. No problems.
However, the update did not change the default Firefox in the menu or on the taskbar panel below. If I click on them, I get the old version.
So when I restarted the computer, when I clicked on the Firefox shortcut icon in the lower taskbar I got the old version with the tabs that were on it. I had to go back into the Firefox file downloaded for the update in order to open the new version.
So, how do I get a working shortcut icon for the new version and get rid of the old version/icon?
Thanks.
David

Can anyone tell me, please, how long I should be able to keep accessing Firefox on a Windows 10 tablet after Microsoft withdraws support for Windows 10 later this year? I seem to remember being able to access the internet on an old laptop as a 'test' a year or two after I'd stopped using it after Microsoft stopped supporting whatever version of Windows was on it, but I can't remember whether it was via Firefox or Internet Explorer or some other Microsoft browser. If Firefox will still 'work' will Microsoft withdrawing support for Windows 10 have any effect on how well it 'works', and/or how secure etc it will be? I am going to try to install some sort of Linux on the tablet (well) before Microsoft abandons Windows, but if it turns out I can't install Linux, I'm hoping I should at least be able to access the internet via Firefox. Thanks to anyone who can help. (ps I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post this question, it's just that performance and connectivity seemed to me [in my ignorance] to be most appropriate!)

Zdravím! Prakticky každé tri dni sú akési aktualizácie. Predtým bolo v nastaveniach všetko priehľadné, teraz ste to "poskrývali", že to musím hľadať, kde čo je! Nenávidím to !!
Chcem sa vrátiť o niekoľko verzií späť, kde to bolo jednoduché, priehľadné, skrátka fajn! Každou aktualizáciou to len komplikujete a komplikujete, viac a viac!
A potom "vyskakovacie okná". Tie vaše! Príklad: Pozerám youtube na malý screen. Ak si dám video na celý monitor, okamžite, asi na 5 sec. vyskočí okno - "youtube is now full screen".
S pozdravom,

Hello! Practically every three days there are some kind of updates. Before everything was transparent in the settings, now you "hid" it, that I have to look for it, where it is! I hate it!!
I want to go back a few versions, where it was simple, transparent, in short, great! With each update you just complicate and complicate it, more and more!
And then "pop-ups". Yours! Example: I'm watching youtube on a small screen. If I put a video on the whole monitor, immediately, for about 5 seconds. a window pops up - "youtube is now full screen". It does it always, everywhere, with all videos, not only on youtube, if I change the format to "full screen". This is extremely annoying to me! You know, I'm a stupid primitive, if I put a video on "full screen", I still need to notify it with a pop-up window! Something abnormal! Write to me where it can be changed in the settings! Or change it yourself, when you make constant updates here every three days! Thank you and I hope to hear from you.
Best regards,
Jozef Varga
