I was messing around with Privacy & Security settings. Under Cookies & Site Data, I checked Delete Cookies & Site Data when Firefox closes. I've decided I don't like it and want to uncheck it. But now it's greyed out and I can't find any way to change it back. It says I'm in permanent private browsing mode. There MUST be a way to change this back to how it was! What is it???

Just installed 81.0.2 update, did not install cleanly, had to reset. All privacy & security settings were wiped. Redid everything, am now unable to block videos on news sites, which I had done previously. Can block autoplay with following config settings -

media.autoplay.allow-extension-background-pages - false media.autoplay.block-event.enabled - true media.autoplay.block-webaudio - true media.autoplay.blocking_policy - 1 media.autoplay.default - 5

Can no longer block videos from loading. How to do this in 81.0.2?

I use Firefox as my primary browser on my Mac Book. I have never changed my default browser from Google and if I go into preferences it says my default browser is still Google. Despite this, about 2 weeks ago all my searches started being in Yahoo instead of Google and it is getting really annoying now. I can't change it to any other browsers or back to Google, it's just stuck on Yahoo.

Dear community,

I would like to bring up a topic that is DRIVING ME CRAZY. I am developer and frequently access my own services on unsecured http servers for testing. Spin up a new docker container, test it, tear it down. No SSL required, no time to mess with encryption.

But if you type in https just a single time for your http server, you are f*#&ed. Sorry for the wording, but this is how it is. You think "OH NO, WHAT DID I DO? NOT AGAIN!!!" Because it is just impossible to access the service with http in the future, Firefox has it locked to SSL (Domain and Port). But of course there is no SSL so it will NEVER work.

Latest example: JetBrains TeamCity. They have a simple Docker container I want to access with Firefox. I spin it up, connect with Firefox with http and it immediately tells me "Secure Connection Failed". WHAT? WHY? I typed http. Why secure? Why can't I simply connect? Using curl on CLI just gives me a beautiful HTML response.

I understand that for the majority of users SSL is a good thing. But shouldn't there at least be an OPTION to disable all this enforced SSL usage? My beloved Firefox is my everyday productivity killer. It makes me sad.

I'm having an issue with Firefox because I want to keep the containers opening on the same website after I click it from a different website but for whatever reason Firefox seems to keep forgetting and asking me again despite the fact that I click the button that says remember my choice.

I wonder if this has something to do with my cookie settings but I'm not sure I'm currently confused how to manage those like if I should just allow cookies per session in Firefox or allow them entirely I mean I'm thinking that with the containers since I have everything isolated individually (That took forever really need an option for that Mozilla) I don't need to worry about the effects of cookies anymore is this correct?

Also would there be a way to even keep cookies but just stop the login information from being saved on the site? Because with me using containers now I think that's my biggest issue from what I think I understand at least.

TL;DR - I typed into my "search the web" bar on my start/default Firefox tab and was taken to Startpage.com - English. I never installed this.

Today, after checking email and finding several suspicious/scam emails (I NEVER click on links in emails) I was surprised to find that when I went to search for something using Firefox I was taken to Startpage.com - English (this is how it is listed in my preferences.

I have no idea how it was installed but I was surprised because of all the protections that Firefox offers.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Thank you,

— Al

In the history section that opens with ctrl+j, the Added and Last modified columns are blank and only sort by name order when sorting by them. What information is supposed to be in those columns and how can I have that information tracked? Also while I'm at it, what information would be displayed in the Tags column, which is also empty to me.

Thanks for your answer.

I am a DirecTV customer and should be able to watch programs on my Win10 device, but Firefox disagrees. On the DirecTV site, when I click Watch Now, it wants to install the DTV player. When Firefox is redirected to the download page, it throws a certificate error and screeches to a halt. I would expect an opportunity to assume the risk and continue, but none is offered. I opened MS Edge, which I don't want to use, and it installed the viewer, no problem. This is the URL from which FF is redirected : https://www.directv.com/Channels/Fox-Business-Network-HD-359?modal=/modal/install/359/channe. Using Firefox 68.12.0ESR. I know 78 is available, I just haven't had the time to test it yet. I delete cookies when I exit Firefox. I want to keep some for sites that I trust, such as this site. I've added exceptions to Allow these trusted sites as documented on a thread somewhere else, but it doesn't work. All cookies are deleted.

Is it possible to keep cookies only for a select group of sites. eg. support.mozilla.com, tomshardware.com, mydigitallife.net, speedtest.net and so on.

Thank you.

Need help configuring Firefox exceptions for Cookies and Other site Data so sites like the NY Times can remember me so I don't have to log-in to them multiple times per day.

I've even deleted Firefox and started over, but that did not resolve the issue.

I need an expert in this to help me as I'm just not getting it...though I have tried many different configurations of FireFox's settings.

Thanks
