Hi there, I run FF 73 on Lubuntu, and since the upgrade chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul is no longer found. I use it as a handy bookmarks and downloads manager within a tab. Error message:

"Firefox can't find the file at jar:file:///usr/lib/firefox/browser/omni.ja!/chrome/browser/content/browser/places/places.xul. "

I realize that this question is similar to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1223548#answer-1127393 but it doesn't solve my issue. In fact the URI's listed also don't work I have found:

   chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul
   chrome://browser/content/places/bookmarksSidebar.xul
   chrome://browser/content/places/historySidebar.xul

Please advise. Thanks for your help!

Firefox was working fine after update to version 73.0. But the following day, Ubuntu made updates of javascript and webkit libs. Upon restart, Firefox was no longer displaying pages correctly.

Interactive pages have become almost unusable. It is very difficult to navigate and fill in forms because most buttons and fields have no borders. The screen is mostly blank with just text and a few bits with borders. It is difficult to see where to click or add text.

I've tried resetting, running in safe mode and running with a fresh profile. None make any difference.

In Firefox 73 on Ubuntu 18.04 amd64, the menu is too large. It looks "zoomed in". I have read about the new zoom feature, but it is said to affect website display only, not the menu. Websites are consistently shown too large in the same way. Changing Firefox's website zoom does not help. Neither does changing the Xserver's DPI. I am using a low resolution display – the menu is taking up too much space. Also the menu item graphics are scaled which looks ugly. Images are scaled, too. It is not noticeable on high-resolution displays. Any pointers?

       alert("nominalIndex.js:update: cannot find form");

} // function update ```

When I put alerts into nameOnKeyDown and update I see that nameOnKeyDown is called but update is never called.

You can see the above code in action at https://www.jamescobban.net/FamilyTree/nominalIndex.php?name=allenby,%20a&treename=&lang=en

This code has worked for over 10 years, and still is working today on Chrome, but the timer never pops on Firefox 73.0 on Ubuntu Linux 19.10.

Once in a while I see one of my CPU cores 100% utilized. Checking process list reveals Firefox. This state persists until I open the Firefox Task Manager. The CPU utilization instantly drops to few percent.

Any idea how I can diagnose what causes this CPU utilization?

Note: `perf` says the Web Content thread is 100% utilized. But the call stack gives no obvious hints about the reason.

Hello you fine folks!

I was using firefox with webGL until it upgraded to 73.0.1. Now all webGL content cannot be initialized. Specifically, Mapbox GL cannot initialize WebGL - I suspect someone has left a toggle in the code somewhere and it borked my workflow.

When I start firefox with all add-ons disabled I still get the same errors. I am 99% certain this has to do with the firefox update because it forced a restart and then various mapbox gl websites stopped working - I also confirmed it was not only mapbox gl by visiting the WebGL working site here: https://get.webgl.org/

https://docs.mapbox.com/mapbox-gl-js/example/simple-map/ gives me results in the attached images

I literally did not change a thing except upgrade the browser as was required.

Scenario #1:

2. Press the play button in video iframe

3. See your tab crashing

Scenario #2:

1. Go to https://www.youtube.com/

2. Wait couple of seconds

3. See your tab crashing

Scenario #3:

1. Go to https://www.youtube.com/

2. Click on any video preview

3. See your tab crashing immediately

Scenario #2 follows Scenario #1. Scenario #3 being repeated even after restart.

Description:

Repeats each time I press play button on this video frame on that specific page. Tab crashes after such actions repeated after restoration of a tab, in a new tab, also in another window. After some single tab crashes, now any tab with YouTube that's being loaded crashes automatically after a while (DOM loaded as well as video previews, but after some time close to 1-2 sec tab crashes). Issue repeats in safe mode.

Environment details:

  • Firefox 73.0 mint 1.0
  • Linux Mint 19, Kernel 4.15.0-88, Cinnamon DE
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 960 (driver version 418.87.00)
  • CPU/GPU/RAM/Swap/HDD are looking normal
  • /tmp directory is full!
  • One day I switched media.rdd-process.enabled option in about:config to false ( don't ask why ;) ). Even if I make it true as default, tabs are still crashing
  • Used that version of firefox for some time - worked perfectly. This issue revealed only today on that specific URL

My conjectures:

Conjecture #1: YouTube has broken something today

Conjecture #2: Some time related stuff (date is 28.02.2019 03:00:00 MSK - so by UTC it's 00:00:00 which is strange)

Conjecture #3: This video has a present from Mao with some malicious stuff inside ( still hope my PC won't blow up this morning :P )

Conjecture #4: Temp directory is full and that causes quite heavy YT tabs to crash (maybe, if firefox uses /tmp, idk)

Hope ur debugging gods will be with you. If you need any more info or help on this subject - do not hesitate to contact me.

- A happy user of multiple Mozilla products

I am a dyslexic (and die-hard) Firefox user. Along the course of the years, I found out that inverting the text-background colors is a good practice to reduce the eye-straining and increase my reading speed.

To achieve this in Firefox, I installed "Dark Background Light Text" add-on and it I used to work out extremely good. However, in June 2018 (Firefox 61) this add-on lost the priviledge to operate in the embedded PDF viewer. This is extremely painful (considering that on average I open 40-50 PDF per week), and I often I have to download/open the documents outside Firefox. This often turns out to be a disrupting process, that makes me lose focus when swapping back and forth between the PDF viewer, my IDE and the browser.

I don't know whether there is a way to activate this feature and I think I made a couple of requests to implement it, but, as of now, I've never received any answer. What makes things worse the Firefox's PDF viewer is the __only__ viewer that doesn't support this feature natively. Is there a way to enable this in Firefox? (I could be as desperate as to try to volunteer to implementing it in the code myself)

Please, don't leave my support request unanswered any longer.

This is about Style Editor, which uses different code for styling. The colors used in browser toolbox (Ctrl + Shft + Alt + I) *Style Editor* uses Code Mirror selectors. Due to less than perfect sight & the poor visibility / contrast colors of found search terms & several other things in Style Editor, I needed to change things.

I didn't have too much problem finding most of CM's CSS selectors for what I needed. In all the CSS files associated with code mirror in the dark theme, I haven't found how to change the foreground (text) color when selecting lines or sections of code.

In Linux, Style Editor's default selected background is almost the same as the body BG color (looking at the hex colors used, and just visually. This from codemirror.css in omni.ja, changes selected, unfocused background: .CodeMirror-selected {

 background: #D4E7F9 !important;

This changes the selected, focused BG color: .CodeMirror-line::selection, .CodeMirror-line > span::selection, .CodeMirror-line > span > span::selection {

  background-color: #E9ECD8 !important; }

But I've found nothing for foreground "color," to make the selected text legible through the light selected BG color I chose. Just adding "color: #0000FF !important;" - under the background property doesn't work (like many CSS styled UIs - especially text editors).

Is it possible that Code Mirror doesn't have a way to change the text color on selected areas? Most text editors I've tested usually have preference menu settings for things like selected - foreground & BG color. Or they have themes that add extra UI styling ability. The themes on code mirror's site don't seem to use selected foreground color (or just "color"). Maybe it doesn't understand that concept.

If the highlight BG color chosen for CM is fairly light with some transparency, you can read some darker syntax colors, but not all.

Using another text editor with better search, I looked & searched all files I could find that control some of Style Editor's / code mirror's colors.

The only thing I found where I could change selected text color was one rule for searching in Style Editor. It's in codemirror.css ... and it doesn't work that consistently for visibility. /chrome/devtools/content/shared/sourceeditor/codemirror/lib/codemirror.css

The default colors (someone) used for search term matches have little contrast.

LINE 330: .cm-searching {

 background-color: rgba(255, 255, 170, 0.6) !important; /* The 1st BG value listed is for focused search result highlight.*/
 color: #0808E5 !important;
 background-color: rgba(2226, 253, 251, .6) !important; }

NOTE: I added the color property in ".cm-searching" - and it worked. Same trick doesn't work for any selection rules I tried. Codemirror's online manual is fairly spartan https://codemirror.net/doc/manual.html#styling
