On certain websites this "Geckomain" process destroys my CPU to 100% and maxes my network traffic with more upload traffic than download, using a lot of my data and bandwidth etc. This is a major concern because I have to pay for my data, it's not unlimited. If left open this process will consume more than 1.5gb of RAM while nothing functions. The only way to stop it is to leave the website. I have to use these websites for my job, so I can't just avoid them. I need a resolution ASAP. Thank you.

My 11-year-old PC (custom build, now running Windows 10) crashed badly (hard drives and Windows 10 were irretrievably broken), so I bought a new motherboard, etc. and installed a new OEM copy of Windows 10. I must reinstall almost all software, including Firefox. The old C: drive SSD is intact. After I install Firefox on the new machine, how can I restore the tabs from the last Firefox session?

Hey guys,

I'm running my laptop on the latest version of Fedora, and using the latest version of Firefox although this issues has been happening with previous versions of Firefox too.

I'm not sure why but I'll be working and using Google sites fine sometimes (mostly gmail, google, google slides), but other times i will put the address in and nothing will happen, no timeout or anything as if I didn't do anything. I was even working with Google slides one time and I got signed out in the middle of my work and had to use a different browser to access slides again.

Anyone have any idea what my issues is?

Thanks.

Recent updates on firefox (firefox - 93.0+build1-0ubuntu0.21.04.1) seems to have issues with pictures in this webpage webpage :

System Host: Kubuntu 20.04 Kernel: 5.11.0-38-generic

I tried a virtual machine (gnome boxes) with pop os. Firefox works fine with no updates, but after updating to (Firefox - 93.0+build1-0ubuntu0.21.04.1) it shows the same issue on this page https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/khelpcenter/fundamentals/ui.html#visualdict-drop-down-box

Guest: POP OS 21.04 Kernel: 5.11.0-7620-generic

I also tried on Boxes-Manjaro (Firefox 91.0-1) and works fine, then I updated it to 93.0-1 and have issues as well on the page https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/khelpcenter/fundamentals/ui.html#visualdict-drop-down-box.

Guest: Manjaro KDE 21.1.0 Kernel: 5.13.11-1-MANJARO

On all of this OS, pressing left click on the image solves the problem temporarily, scrolling down or up makes the blinking appear again

My final thoughts are the KDE docs page uses a lot of fancy links which probably is not standard for a general web page which leads on unexpected issues on newer version of Firefox, a workaround would be installing deb packages of Firefox 91 because is stable and trusty and installing new one if needed, a caveat would be updating manually. In any case I would like to know what else would causing

However, I can't seem to find the option which is meant to turn this behaviour off.

Hey all,

everytime I start Firefox, it automatically displays Nord theme that I was using some time ago.

I want to change that theme to something else, so I switched to the default dark theme. Upon restarting the firefox, the theme gets reset back to Nord. In theme selection settings I can see that the dark theme is enabled, but firefox actually still displays the Nord theme. I'm assuming it's because I have Nord theme synced from my account from my previous pc installs.

To remove the Nord theme I tried to:

  • Switch to a different theme
  • Remove the Nord theme from my themes list, leaving only the default Light, Dark, System and Alpenglow themes.
  • in about:config I have set services.sync.prefs.sync.lightweightThemes to false
  • In firefox settings, under sync, I have unchecked syncing of add-ons.

But firefox still uses the Nord theme upon every start up, regardless of what other theme I chose.

How do I get rid of the Nord theme?

There are several things we can sync on Firefox account. I tried to search the limits on storage and TTL for the stored data, but found very few information and threads. I didn't found any official documentation stating related info. These limits are not stated fully and clearly anywhere. So, I asked here again.

What are the storage limits & TTLs for these syncable items :

  • Bookmarks
  • History
  • Add-ons
  • Settings
  • Open Tabs
  • Login Credentials
  • Credit Card info

Also, I found on some thread stating that Firefox sync stores data for 60 days, and Firefox can receive it. But, Firefox cannot send data older than 30 days. Please clarify this behaviour as well.

Thanks in advanced..!

Hi,

I found some discussion related (https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/disable-add-ons-on-specific-website/33693) but no solution yet.

This is imho a big flaw in the privacy of users.

There are trivial cases, for example if I use a YouTube downloader plugin, I obviously want it to monitor my browsing ONLY when I'm on youtube.com...

And there are some critical cases: when I browse my web banking, or when I go on some trading website, I don't want my financial operations to be at risk because of an add-on that is very useful everywhere but on those site.

However, I don't want to exclude all the add-ons for those website too, that would be just too much.

I think there's already a coding base in place, since you can disable each add-on when using private windows. This could be enhanced by having a system of whitelist/blacklist instead. And this feature would actually make more sense than using a private window.

Another way would be to have this feature on per container, instead of per website, than would work well too.

People have different activities, and some requires useful plugins, that are very specific. I mean Keepass's add-on (for example) is useful everywhere, but many add-ons are related to one activity at a time.

For example, if I'm a marketer and want to analyze website, I'll use add-ons for having stats on metadata or keywords or even real time reports from Alexa or from AliExpress, etc...

But when I'm reading my email, I'm not happy those add-ons can see my data.

That would be tedious to disable all those plugins every time I change activity, especially since we are productive humans so obviously we need to alternate those activities doing multitask all the time.

And the private window option is not flexible enough for that kind of multitasking, when containers are.

I hope this helps everyone understand clearly why I think my request is not only a real user need, but also currently a flaw in users privacy since most people will not trade the comfort of their add-ons for some privacy concern they don't always understand...

I know this is some kind of feature request more than ask for help, but https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/ is out of service so I don't know where to address my concern here.

Thanks for helping me pushing this idea forward.

Hi,

It seems that somehow DRM has stopped working in Firefox: as of this morning, I get the message to enable DRM on spotify, netflix and other sites - enabling DRM only yields the message "Firefox is installing components needed to play audio on this site...".

Using Firefox v93 on Manjaro 21.1.6, all up to date

I've tried (in order):

  • made sure "play DRM controlled content" is enabled
  • restarted browser in safe mode
  • refreshed my profile
  • uninstalled Firefox, removed profile folder, reinstalled Firefox
  • tested on a Windows VM with the newest version of Firefox -> works
  • installed the Spotify player as app (snap package) -> works
  • installed Vivaldi browser and DRM content works there too

I don't understand what could have changed - have had no issues when I updated firefox to the latest version a few days ago and changed nothing last night. Simply logged back in today and started seeing this problem.

Any ideas?

A few moths ago, when you visited a website and then typed some new search-term in the address-bar, you used to be able to search right in that tab. Now a new tab opens up and you get moved there.

While programming, i search for a lot of stuff. Switch to Firefox -> Ctrl+L -> type search-term is the fastest way i found to search for whatever I need. Problem is: now my browser clutters itself by always opening new tabs instead of just reusing the one i don't need anymore.

So my questions would be this:

  1. Is it possible to restore the old behaviour of staying within your one tab?
  2. If there is some other shortcut that allows for searching without moving to a new tab?

(I also tried Ctrl+K and Ctrl+J. Both still open a tab when you already are on a website.)

It has less entries from now on.

I want to know if there is a bug, or something changed by itself. How can I fix that?

I usually leave the default zoom under general settings at 100%, but when I'm in the settings / preference page, I usually set it at 90%.

However, in my attempt to clear cache on another issue, I ticked site preferences and offline web site data under clear all history. Ever since, the 90% under about:preferences does not stick like it did previously.

Setting the default zoom at 90% under General sticks, but it also applies 90% under general browsing - which is not what I want.

How could I get back to my previous settings?

Thanks.
