Changes in Firefox 23 - not for the better

I just got Firefox 23, and found there is no more Enable Javascript checkbox in the Content area of Preferences and there is no more ability to prevent changes to the functioning of the context menu and prevent the changing of the size or position of the window. I really do not understand why certain settings to control what may be done by web page code to the browser are being gutted out. Presumably it means that any smartass who can write a web page can force my browser window to be whatever size he wants it to be. That used to drive me crazy in the past, and it will do the same thing again. Is there any way to make a capability policy that could stop the resizing of the window? I just found out that I can still use the context menu if I use Shift-right-click. Why the change?

Autohiding the tab bar does not work any more. I thought the big argument for trying to put tabs on top and into the title bar was to save space? Forcing the tab bar to be visible all the time will certainly not save space, so why do it?

My bookmark menu was removed from the bookmarks toolbar. I tried to find a button that would put it back, and there are two bookmarks buttons in the customize window. Are the developers trying to make things harder, or what?

Now a days often Adobe flash crush. I followed the solution exactly as described on your web and downgraded the flash version. After that windows program compatibility assistant started appearing with warning that Yahoo messenger need flash.ocx which is not supported by Windows vista. By following suggested solution by windows I re-installed Macromedia flash but the problem remain same. However, the Adobe flash player crush problem remain there but rarely.

I had been using Yahoo messenger and it was first time I saw such message though I just did changes in Adobe flash by following exact procedure described on Firefox website from uninstall to downgrade flash version.

Conclusion: After downgrading Adobe flash player the crush problem reduced to very minimum. The Windows compatibility assistant kept appearing therefore, once again I updated the flash player to the latest version and re-installed Yahoo messenger. Now only face Adobe flash player crushing problem.

Please share your thoughts or any advice will be appreciated.

I am getting increasingly frustrated by the Google search plugin redirecting search results to https.

I have edited the Google xml file so that all instances of https have been changed to http then deleted the search.json file but my search results still get redirected to https.

I've also deleted cookies and temp files but the problem persists.

The reason is bugs me so much is that my ad blocker is unable to filter https.

I'm not sure if it's a FF issue or more likely, it's Google doing the redirecting but previous version of FF were fine once I edited the xml file.

Any help or suggestions would be cool.

Thanks.

and furthermore, I see that almost all the question threads asking about this have been closed. I've downloaded the suggested add-on, but my question is ..what changed? Firefox was the best at blocking popups but now it's as if the popup blocker is nonexistant. I have not changed settings, but popups started becomming increasingly abundant, I have checked and unchecked and rebooted with no improvement. It's not an occasional popup ad, literally every third click I make (even within one window) causes some popup ad to appear....I've counted. Has something happened to firefox or have the ad guys just gotten smarter about going around popup blockers in firefox? Either way, PLEASE FIX THIS. Otherwise, why have the option of checking a popup blocker in Options? Thanks!

I have recently installed FF. There is a specific website I go to often that works fine in the other major browsers. However, when I access it in FF, the window appears properly for a split second and then automatically re-sizes to a size that doesn't fit within the confines of the browser window. I am unable to use "CTRL -" to bring it back into full view. In addition, there are no scroll bars available after the resize. I have reset FF to its default state and I have restarted with add-ons disabled to no avail. This is a Silverlight-based site, if that has any bearing on the situation. Any suggestions?

Whenever I go to download a file, the 'do this automatically for files like this from now on' box is greyed out. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution and just about every one of them is either severely outdated or does not fix my problem. I have reset my Firefox more than I can count and yet it does not seem to fix my problem. It used to work just fine, but it no longer does and it is very annoying and frustrating. I have even tried to completely uninstall it and reinstall it to my computer and that doesn't fix anything.

Is there any sort of way to fix this problem? Firefox is my browser of choice and I'd prefer not to have to start using another one. I know it may seem trivial because it's just one extra step, but when you're doing it a bunch of times in a row like I do, it can get quite bothersome.

Thank you.

This is very frustrating.

I store Microsoft Word files in DropBox. When I download them with Chrome or Internet Explorer, there is no problem.. When I use Firefox, it reads all my files as PDFs. It converts my Word files to PDF so I can't edit them when I download them from DropBox.

Please fix this! I love Firefox, but now I have to use other browsers because it's simply a nuisance to switch between browsers to work around this!

WHAT DOES IT TAKE (besides switching to Safari or Chrome) TO STOP THIS?

Using yahoo email on hp laptop. Firefox has worked fine for ages, but suddenly no downloads possible. I followed all the suggestions on the page in Support, including the reset of Firefox. None worked. I tried uninstalling, turning the computer off, then re-installing, and that worked at first, but now is unrelaiable. I try using small size word docs without graphics. A few days before this happened, I tried to look at a web page which asked me to download latest shockwave player. I repeatedly tried, but although a window showed to say it was done, the program was not findable on my computer. I then repeatedly tried to download a flash player update and that wouldn't work either. Was able to download flash player using Internet Explorer. Don't know if that's connected.

At least once a day Firefox (my default broswer) opens a window to a website without my prompting. The window displays a message to the effect that my computer is insecure (or similar) and to click to download software to fix the problem. Currently the website it want to take me to is tofushopnews.com (there have been others previously). Obviously I inadvertently downloaded something that keeps this happening but I don't know what and how to remove it. I run anti-virus (McAfee) and malware software (Malwarebyte) but it keeps happening. Help!

Firefox has been repeatedly crashing after it's been open for around an hour or so. Sometimes it says it's because the plugin container has stopped working but other times it just outright crashes, and brings me straight to the "send info to mozilla" window. I've tried reinstalling firefox, downgrading flash, upgrading flash etc and it hasn't helped.

If there's any information that I need to provide please respond I would be happy to provide whatever is necessary to fix this issue.
