My history is not showing, my auto entry is not showing, and my bookmarks are all not loading. I have tried importing and exporting as well. Export is blank(nothing is happening), When I try to import from the Auto-Backups (I did not make manual saves), it says Unable To Recover File.
I have looked in the browser for profiles, and it shows only the one currently in use, no old profiles show.
Any help would be appreciated!

My VISTA computer's motherboard died, and thus the computer, but the hard drive was saved. It's now an external drive to a Win 10 laptop. When I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox the directory is dated 5/23, the day before the crash, so something got updated, but the most recent date on files in the directory is 5/10, including the file firefox..application..505kb. When I double-click it and go Bookmarks>All Bookmarks>Import and Backup>Restore there's no file dates in May except the one created yesterday when I was trying to find a way to get a missing bookmark directory and its contents recovered. Thus: How can I get my missing bookmarks back? Are they on the rescued C: (as some kind of "Favorites" file), or "in the cloud" somewhere? Is the firefox file I mention above the correct file to double-click? All help is immensely appreciated. Thanks, Dave

This has been an ongoing problem that started, first with update 63.0, and continues with update 63.0.1.
I have tried multiple fix suggestions, including the very disappointing "refresh Firefox" option. While that did nothing to cure the problem, it did wipe out every saved password. That, to be blunt, really ticked me off. It says this fix solution will keep our saved information, with no mention of erasing passwords.
Second, I changed the Network Settings as directed, from Use system proxy settings to auto-detect proxy settings for this network. I have been cautioned NOT to use the no proxy option, because it has a chance of rendering some websites unavailable. Not interested in messing up my browsing experience any worse than these recent Firefox updates have accomplished by themselves.
All these problems aside, my biggest disappointment is in the total lack of communication from Mozilla. While I value the Firefox ideology and the mission to provide a more private internet browsing experience, all this is worthless to me if my pages load at something akin to dial-up speeds.
At this juncture I have no choice but to use Google Chrome until someone can provide me with a workable solution, a solution that doesn't send me back to square one with all my saved Firefox information. If that is the only remedy, I might as well switch my default browser now and begin to re-acclimate myself to the changes.
Thanks.

I recently had a power failure, which meant that Firefox didn't close down properly when the PC powered down. When I restarted, Firefox had lost all of my previous settings, ie bookmarks, passwords etc, so I have tried to recreate a profile which contains all of the previous elements. However, there is clearly something wrong & although I have deleted the places files & run the "Refresh Firefox" utility, these continue. My main bugbear at present is that I cannot either backup my bookmarks file, or export it in HTML format, in order to even consider creating a brand new profile. I have also noticed that my new profile has a bookmarksbackup folder, but is never getting populated with any content. I do have an old profile which I have used to recreate the profile that I am using now, but I am beginning to wonder whether there is some sort of corruption in the files contained, which means that I am simply recreating the problems, over again. I have a number of other quirks & eccentricities, ie the clear downloads button doesn't always work & all of the small icons on my bookmarks have disappeared & show no sign of refreshing, even though a week has elapsed since the original "crash". So, are there other files that I need to delete / recreate in my profile, in order to get back to normal functionality ?? As I say, my biggest current problem is not being able to backup or export my current bookmarks file - it says that it is being done, but no files are actually created. Oh, and I can create new bookmarks, but once again, the small icons which use to be created, no longer appear. Many thanks for any assistance out there.

Hi! There is a bug. YouTube History is not saved when i use Firefox as browser. So I deleted it and then reinstalled it, logged in to it and played videos from YouTube again. Then i checked again the history and saw that it was saving. Later without any changes in Firefox settings (including addons), the problem began starting again. I still don't understand why it is happening. The addons that i have installed are: Kaspersky Protection, Malwarebytes, uBlock Origin and Privacy Pass. This problem doesn't happen when i use Chrome Browser with same extensions.

Got a new iMac with i7 processor (old one 2009 with high sierra) I set up the new one, backed up the old one and did the transfer from the external hard drive. Everything transferred even the firefox pages and tabs migrated but the bookmarks did not. A window for firefox quantum appeared for an upgrade which i left alone for now...
2009 imac firefox still works fine so looked up the problem = eventually found out 'my profile is missing', I have backed up latest copy firefox on 2009 imac and have an .html file and a .json file so using an sd card might work
tried these too but no good

Firefox removed all my stored passwords, and this is going to be a huge problem for me.. They were all in Firefox password manager, or whatever its called, and i tried to lookup logins.json in %appdata%, but it only shows the last password in the list (i had only added a new one when i found out all old ones were gone-made an account at a new site before going through old ones).. The logins.json does not show a rollback history(previous versions)..
I think the fonts etc look different now than it did yesterday, so it could have been an update during the night? Either way, how can i restore it??

Hi
I have had to reformat my laptop but have my profile data saved on a backup drive. All the responses I can find say to c&p the key4.db and logins.json files into the new profile folder when FF is shut, but this doesn't work. I have tried rebooting to see if that helped. That method also didn't work with the bookmarks, but there is a way to import these into the application when it's open rather than into the profile folder, so I do have all my bookmarks in place but not the password info. If I have been unclear I can add more detail to the above.
The file structure in the profile folder seems different in 62.0.3 than previous versions - having the password files in the profile folder isn't working, should they be in one of the folders that appeared by default? Image attached.
Thanks in advance for any feedback, I may be making an obvious mistake and apologise if so.

I'd been meaning to reformat + clean install Windows 7 anyway, so I did so immediately.
Now on the fresh install, I can log in to Firefox Sync, and all my logins are intact, however, my hundreds of bookmarks are "gone" and the Bookmark Toolbar won't let me add anything new to it either.
The thing is, the bookmarks *DO* still exist in FF on my Android... but as I understand there's no way to export bookmarks from mobile... (at least not without hacky-looking apps?)
I'm worried that it's going to sync "the wrong way" and delete them from the Android, but on the other hand, the strange toolbar behaviour might mean the data's still there but "stuck" or corrupt?
Any suggestions?
I'm on Windows 7 Home, running Firefox ESR 52/64-bit (same as previously).

I have duplicated my current ff profile which has sync enabled. I have created a new ff profile which uses the copied directory as it's root directory. Opened a new browser window with the new profile and then started to cleanup/delete some bookmarks and add-ons and noticed that all bookmarks started to disappear from the source ff profile.
I don't have any backups of any kind. Just Firefox Sync enabled.
Q: Can you help me recover my bookmarks from a specific point in time (21st of March)?
Thank you! \m/

I gave up on Firefox due to its insistence that I could not stop it forcing updates on me no matter what settings I used in options as well as about: . I went back to IE9. Yes 9, as Microsoft couldn't repair Windows 7 to get a later version installed. Anyhow, after my motherboard became erratic and the replacement meant Win 7 no longer worked at all, I decided it was time to 'upgrade' to Win 10. After a complete reinstall of my software from scratch I realised just how bad Edge is and thought I might see how Firefox was holding up. I thought the sync could be useful and was getting on with it until 68.0.1! Since updating to this version automatically (the settings in options still do not work), it appears it is updating/resetting itself after every reboot. It restores the defaults and behaves as if it has just updated each time. Also after doing this for five times it appears to have broken ADBlock which advises it cannot work any more. I have had to uninstall it to get the tab to stop. So, as my questions were never answered previously, I'll ask again: 1. How do I get Firefox to stop updating itself? Options 'check for updates but let you choose when to install them' clearly still doesn't work as it updates regardless. 2. How do I get to keep my preferences. Having to go through them all each time Firefox updates is a pain. Surely it cannot be too much to create an ini file? 3. How do I convince Firefox not to keep installing version 68.0.1 over itself? 4. As Adblock no longer works in this version (I'm sure they are pleased with this result), what good alternatives are there?
