Downloaded VLC Web Plugin Version 2.0.5.0 and rebooted and restarted Firefox. Firefox Plug Ins still shows old version 2.0.2.0. When I check Firefox for latest version is says 2.0.2.0 is the latest and I'm up to date.

When I open VLC as a standalone it comes up as version 2.0.5.0.

Why is Firefox not incorporating the correct version?

Over the weekend, Yahoo has somehow been made my default homepage. When I go to Preferences and change it to my desired homepage, it only works for the next launch - then it reverts back to Yahoo. So I uninstalled Firefox and downloaded a new copy. Same thing, so apparently it's a moderation you have made to your browser.

I do not like this. If you don't tell me how to permanently remove Yahoo as my default page, and allow me to PERMANENTLY decide for myself what my default homepage is, I will stop using Firefox altogether, even if it until now has been my favorite browser.

I am on an iMac running OS X 10.6.8

Firefox Menu Bar

I am new to Linux but have been using Firefox for Windows for almost ten years. I now want to use Firefox Desktop, Version 26 (I think) in Linux (Ubuntu).

I cannot get the Menu Bar (File, Edit, Help, etc.) to show. In Firefox support, in the section “Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars”, it states: “Most toolbars can be shown or hidden depending on your needs. To show or hide a toolbar, right-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip and check or uncheck it in the pop-up menu. Menu Bar: This toolbar at the top of the Firefox window contains the browser menus (File, Edit, Help, etc.). Hiding the Menu Bar will make the Firefox button appear which contains a simplified menu.”

When I right-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip, all I get is options for the Navigation Toolbar, the Bookmarks Toolbar, and the Add-on Bar; no Menu Bar option. Also, since my Menu Bar is “hidden,” I can't find the Firefox button which contains a simplified menu. What does the Firefox button look like?

When I go to support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox and try to download Firefox 26 I'm told that "Congrats! You’re using the latest version of Firefox."

Since I presume my Linux distribution's packaged version of Firefox can be updated only when an updated package is released, I checked for distro updates and there were none at all. Do I have to wait for a Linux update?

I certainly will appreciate any help.

Hi, My Firefox plug-in check is telling me that there is an update for Java, but when I visit the link it's still taking me to the old update (the Java 7 update 9). Also, according to the Java test page, Java 7u9 is still showing that it's the latest...it says I have the recommended version.

Is there an newer update somewhere?

Thanks.

Shockwave Flash was causing my browser 40.0.3 to start videos I did not want to play, I added an add-on to block Shockwave Flash; however, this became very cumbersome to enable and disable when i go to sites that required Flash like a greeting card site. I found another add-on called "Video without Flash", it told me to remove "shockwave Flash" I did, now I can not get any video on the greeting card site. Is the problem that I removed Shockwave Flash or something else, I have the latest Flash Player from Adobe.

I need some help.

Many versions ago I customized the background color if none was given to a brown to go with the skin I was using then.

Now I find displaying a simple text file is unreadable with unbolded black against the brown, but I cannot find in today's version where to set it back to white (or at least a pale color).

Any help appreciated.

I really don't like the look-and-feel of the new pdf.js viewer. On my machine (6 yr old HP running Windows XP with sp 3) it displays slower than Acrobat Reader did, and I was perfectly happy with Acrobat Reader plugin. Frankly I want to disable pdf.js, but haven't been able to figure a way to do it. It doesn't display anywhere I could find on Add-ons Manager. I don't want to be compelled to use a feature that seems to be a performance detriment, at least for me. Mozilla, please rethink this!

How to lock down Firefox in an Enterprise Environment?

I need to lock a bunch of preferences so they can not be changed by users on multiple Windows 7 computers running Firefox. I was able to get most of the settings I needed locked down in a test environment by using the Firefox-GPO-Addon and an .adm template I found online:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/gpo-for-firefox/

   The template is outdated and does not match many of the settings, but it was easy to add settings to the .adm template. I do not like this method since I have to install the addon (somehow) on all of the computers. Also, there are a couple of settings I need to configure (such as privacy.sanitize.promptOnSanitize", false) that are not currently in the 'about:config' by default and the GPO does not create them.
   So, I have been trying to figure out the other method of configuring Firefox settings in an enterprise environment, and have been working mostly with these articles:

http://stealthpuppy.com/prepare-mozilla-firefox-for-enterprise-deployment-and-virtualization/
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences

   I figured once I have the mozilla.cfg and local-settings.js configured, I can copy them to all of the computers with a script, instead of having to install the GPO AddOn. Here's what my local-settings.js looks like:

pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);
pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");

And here's my mozilla.cfg file, with some of the settings I need configured:

//
pref("browser.startup.homepage", http://www.msn.com);
lockPref("browser.startup.homepage", http://www.msn.com);
pref("security.tls.version.max", 1);
lockPref("security.tls.version.max", 1);
pref("security.tls.version.min", 0);
lockPref("security.tls.version.min", 0);
pref("security.default_personal_cert", Ask Every Time);
lockPref("security.default_personal_cert", Ask Every Time);
pref("app.update.enable", false);
lockPref("app.update.enable", false);
pref("browser.search.update", false);
lockPref("browser.search.update", false);
pref("extensions.update.enabled", false);
lockPref("extensions.update.enabled", false);
pref("network.protocol-handler.external.shell", false);
lockPref("network.protocol-handler.external.shell", false);
pref("plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types", PDF, FDF, XFDF, LSL, LSO, LSS, IQY, RQY, XLK, XLS, XLT, POT PPS, PPT, DOS, DOT;
lockPref("plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types", PDF, FDF, XFDF, LSL, LSO, LSS, IQY, RQY, XLK, XLS, XLT, POT PPS, PPT, DOS, DOT);
   However, when I copy the mozilla.cfg file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ and the local-settings.js file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref it has no effect on the settings in Firefox. I can go to about:config and see nothing has changed.
   Any help is appreciated!

This is on my toshiba laptop (windows 10), no problem on my desktop computer (windows 7) My Firefox version is 54.0.1 64 bit My flash version is 26.0.0.131 Flash is set "always activate" in options. No message comes up and no security warning next to the URL Tried updating flash, no change. Tried giving the page the permission to allow flash instead of default by clicking on the green lock and changing that. What to try now?

(Also tried to upload an image on this page, and it seemed to be endlessly bufering as well, not sure if it will work or not, so I am just going to hit submit whether it does or not.)

Hi,

Where does Mozilla Firefox saves the files from add-ons? Don't know if it is from Windows update or from Firefox update, but my add-ons settings keeps on resetting and I lose a lot of data from them because of that. And if I know where Firefox saves those files, then I can make a backup for them.

For development purposes I have several Java runtime versions on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. I try to keep the number of installed JDKs and JREs to a minimum and I want Firefox to use JRE 1.7.0_21 (32 bit) since this came with a JDK version I am forced to use for another application.

Firefox however uses JRE 1.6.0_31, and correctly reports this as insecure. It offers me the option to upgrade, but I do not want to download and install another JRE since I already have said JRE 1.7.0_21 installed. I would highly prefer to just be able to point Firefox to that JRE. I don't see an option to select another installed JRE however.

I have already attempted to manually modify the pluginreg.dat file (I know, it says Do not edit...) by changing the JRE 1.6 entries to JRE 1.7, but upon restart my edits were overwritten and the old JRE was back. As a result I cannot view certain web sites (also corporate/internal) without having to switch to lesser browsers.

Please let me know how I can make Firefox use the already installed JRE 1.7.

I had read that in FF v22 Web RTC (Real Time Connections, PeerConnection and DataChannels) are enabled by default. This is a big no-no for me.

Where can I turn them off, is it possible to do this in one click (as for JavaScript or images)?

Will they bypass disabled in Windows Remote Access service?

Anything else I can do to block peer-to-peer and any remote access to my computer, while reading the Web will remain possible?

Thank you.

How do I remove the automatic reset of Firefox to the awful yahoo search engine? I want Google as default search engine. Here is what I have already tried: a. Choosing Google over yahoo and then deleting the yahoo from preferences: Firefox always springs back to yahoo. b. Dowloading the "Google default" app. This worked on earlier versions of Firefox, before V 38.0.1. But it appears that the commercial interests behind Firefox have now circumvented this, as well, because the "Google default" app now no longer works. c. Erasing, and then re-installing the "Google default" app. No improvement.

If there is no way to deal with this, then I'm dumping FF and switching to Google Chrome.
