I had set up a userContent.css file in the past to pull up and fetch an image on my computer to display as a background on the homepage. It worked and did it's job until recently, when I had recently relocated a lot of my files around on my computer. I have redirected everything to where I want it to look, including the userContent.css file to the new location for the image I want as the background. Firefox loads the .css file correctly, and recognizes the file existing, but it won't load the image itself for some odd reason. It states it "may not load or link the file" because of a security error, and thus, can't load the image. I never had to deal with this before. How can I get Firefox to be able to load my image like I want it to? I have screenshots that I can provide, but this site doesn't want to upload them at the moment.

In the latest Firefox update a very annoying new "feature" arrived. When you download something, an automatic drop down menu appears in the top toolbar and stays there until the file is being downloaded and closed after some seconds after the download is finished. You can click of course somewhere to make it vanish.

This is TOO ANNOYING. It also covers a portion of the main page. How can i disable this behavior and return to the old one where nothing appears automatically?

Recently I upgraded my Windows 10 to Windows 11 and since doing so, I've had consistent errors while browsing the web on Firefox. Most notably the "Humm. We're having trouble finding that site." error message.

For example, when visiting, say Verizon.com, the tab will display the aforementioned error to which I press Try Again and the website loads correctly every-time. No hiccups on the refresh.

I've tried the following:

  1. I've performed a completely clean uninstall of Firefox and then reinstall
  2. Cleared all browser history/cache
  3. Removed all extensions
  4. Disabled IPv6, HTTPS Over DNS, No Proxy
  5. Ran through Firefox's troubleshooting
  6. Used Firefox Troubleshooting Mode in the Browser
  7. Tested that the problem does not happen while using Edge

I've never had a single problem on Windows 10 with Firefox. Curious if others are experiencing the same issues and if there are any fixes. Nothing else on the PC has changed.

Following the deprecation of the FTP protocol in Firefox I have, as a workaround, set Excel to open all ftp links in Firefox for me. However, ideally, I would like a custom PowerShell script to handle all ftp links for me in Firefox. But to do so you would have to pass arguments to an application (in this case PowerShell) in handlers.json file. I guess that is not possible, or am I wrong here?

Until recently, when I started typing in the address bar, FF was offering suggestions that were clearly based on addresses I had gone to in the past and seemed remarkably prescient about where I wanted to go. For example, if I typed the name of my hosting service, Seanet, one of the top 2 or 3 choices would be Seanet's login page.

Now, if I type "sean" for example, I get a bunch of irrelevant stuff ("sean connery") and about 10 lines down, it says "firefox suggests" and one of those is the login page. I ran into an article talking about how to change settings under privacy/address bar, but those don't affect this behavior. They change what might be the source of suggestions, and I limited it to browsing history, and that didn't help at all.

Maybe this is something that can't be fixed, but things were easier when FF listed very near the top the actual addresses I went to. Not all have deteriorated, e.g. (to reveal stuff about me) typing "x" gets xkcd.com as the first suggestion, and typing "e" gets explainxkcd.com as the first (sorry, sometimes I don't get the computer references and need an explanation).

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey,

When entering a password on some website, I have a dropdown list of all saved passwords for this website and every saved password has the "from this website" line under it. This makes the dropdown list extremely long (in terms of its height).

I would love to get rid of the sign "from this website", so that I see a more compact list of saved passwords without those useless lines "from this website".

I have already turned off the "signon.includeOtherSubdomainsInLookup" feature, all that is left to make the dropdown list of passwords look normal (just like it used to be before all the new pointless changes).

I hope more experienced firefox users can help me make my browser more user-friendly to me.

Since couple of months ago, FF started to ask for master password after 30 minutes of inactivity. I have auto-refresh for some tabs which use Basic Authentication. After 30min those tabs stops refreshing and FF opens multiple (5) dialogs for master password. This secondary layer of security is pretty annoying as I have my computer secured on multiple levels by multiple factors already. I am getting very annoyed by this, is there any way to disable this "feature"? I have security.ask_for_password = 0 and signon.masterPasswordReprompt.timeout_ms = 0 but it keeps asking (now bit less often but still does). I just want master password entered once when I start the session and keep it open until I quit the browser.

Hello,

I'm using firefox-dev under linux debian buster and would like to keep it as my default browser and even more after all those recent articles in media where they say firefox is loosing its users.

I received the newletter from netflix and I tried to watch a trailer (https://www.netflix.com/watch/81387952?trkid=13710079&MSG_TITLE=81387952&lnktrk=EMP&g=79ECBFC7B02B1269F43D15B11C9BA9F56455502C&lkid=TRAILER_CTA) but even after i clicked on accept drm, the video was stuck nothing happened I just saw one single fixed picture of the movie.

Later, I was on facebook, trying to watch a video (https://www.facebook.com/demotivateur/videos/5009752875718446) and the same here without any DRM...

For both of the cases I opened chrome pasted the url and video played very well.

Is there something to tweak to make it work ? Is it because I'm under debian ?

I don't want friends to switch to chrome but I understand them sometimes.

Kr,

Eric

On my laptop, I run FDE as my daily driver, with the release version to handle my webmail. I also use portable firefox (from portableapps.com) as a browser to use while at work, from a thumb drive. While using that portable verison, I usually just go to google image search, and a work site that would definitely be secure.

My question: I don't like to update the installation on my thumb drive very often, and occasionally work computers are very slow anyways. So if I were to update it no more often than once a month, which version of firefox would be most secure: Release, Beta, or Nightly?

If doing this is just dumb, then which version gets updated less often--it would be Release, correct?

After inserting the proxy information, webpages in the container tab refuse to load/connect, I insert the IP address and I've also tried the Fully qualified domain name, using the type://host:port syntax, I get "The proxy server is refusing connections" and "The connection has timed out" error messages.

If I setup the proxy via the settings menu the entire browser uses the proxy server address, I am trying to specify a different proxy server for each container.

I use HTML files to create images for a tile based game we play. 6 months ago I was able to create a table with collapsed borders and 0px padding, margins, and borders, then draw my image with 207 x 207 JPEG TDs in multiple TR rows, then place another GIF image over all the JPEGs with transparent edges. Doing this for a table that was 6 tiles (207px) wide and 4 tiles deep, at ctrl 0, displayed a Firefox combined image that was exactly 1242px x 828px that was completely visible on 24 inch 1920 x 1080 DELL monitor. This allowed me to right click an empty space on my Firefox screen and select Take Screenshot to click on the GIF overlay image and capture that image with all of the tiles that were behind its transparent edges.

For some reason, I have no idea why, my 207px by 207px tile images are now being displayed as 282px by 282px at ctrl 0, and the overall image is now too large to fit on the screen, so taking a screenshot of the proper sized image is no longer possible. For example, at ctrl- ctrl-, the tile images are 221 pixels square, which should be 1326 pixels wide for 6 tiles, but my 1242px wide GIF file displays at 1330 pixels wide, probably due to some kind of rounding error.

I was able to use about:config and change layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from -1.0 to 0.74 and it did solve the problem. But it does so with a lot of warning for changing that default value!

So my question is simple: how does Firefox, on Windows 10, determine its screen pixel to Image px relationship? I need to know what to look at for the proper way to get my px to pixel ratio back to 1 to 1.

This is what the working image looks like while designing the center scoreboard tile https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2022-08-23-13-36-34-2fa67f.png

and this is what the final image looks like when you take a screenshot of the image https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2022-08-23-13-36-53-beae42.png

Hi, FF 89.0b2 Developer edition now contains a "fake editable" search field at the home page (the sentence contains in the class attribute so I used it here), when one start typing in it and the letters appear in the address bar.

For me personally this is partly non-intuitive partly annoying. I never met a scenario in UI of other programs, when typing in one place (where the caret is) show actual letters at another place.

Is this feature is here to stay or are there plans to to make it customizable? I used ff home page search for ages, now I installed a new tab home page extension with manually setting www.google.com in it.

Thanks
