I used to create desktop shortcuts to websites by dragging the padlock thumbnail to the left of the URL to the desktop. (see first image)

Now it does not create a shortcut but instead creates a file on the desktop with a .URL extension.(see 2nd image) Double clicking on the file will take me to the website, but as a file and not a shortcut, I cannot modify the name displayed or change the icon displayed.

Am I looking at something new in version 96 or have I inadvertantly changed something in the settings?

If you use userChrome.css to customise the tab toolbar, you might see the height of the tabs increase with Firefox 96.0.2. For me the fix was to add an entry to userChrome.css:

   #tabbrowser-tabs:not([secondarytext-unsupported]) .tab-label-container {
     height: initial !important;
   }

This counteracts a change in 96.0.2 which sets the height of that element to 2em.

I am trying to access a few financial sites and receive the following security error that I am unable to resolve. Something changed with my Firefox settings recently as I was able to access these sites prior.

==============

Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to accountaccess.edwardjones.com because this website requires a secure connection.

What can you do about it?

accountaccess.edwardjones.com has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site.

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it.

If you are on a corporate network or using anti-virus software, you can reach out to the support teams for assistance. You can also notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

Dear TS, Friday January 28th 2022 Firefox updated my Win 10 PC to version 96.0.3 and wiped out everything from the previous Firefox version. No bookmarks, History, or add ons, everything is gone! How do we get everything back? I have a recent backup using Acronis on an external drive and even copies of old profiles from 2016. If the data can't be retrieved I'm thinking the only option is to remove Firefox and attempt restoring it from the Acronis backup. Sincerely, Robert.

Somehow Airbnb fails to load after numerous attempts. Clearing cache etc. doesn’t do the job. Shutting down the VPN doesn’t do the job either. The message I get from their website is (in Dutch) that’s something went wrong.

“Unfortunately your request couldn’t be executed due to a server error. Maybe maintenance is taking place currently on Airbnb or something is wrong with your connection. Refresh the page and try again.”

Anybody knows what to do please?

One site that I visit is freezing up. This has only started to happen in the past two days. The size is Adam4Adam.com. I have tried troubleshooting mode. I have cleared my cache and my cookies. The site in the process of loading up freezes. What's more, is that not only that site freezes. All my open tabs in Firefox freezes when I load that site.

Please let me know if you can help.

Many thanks.

Hi

I have this issue where I cannot connect to any local website like 192.168.1.1 ( my router ) or any other site like that. This is the case for the for fresh installed Firefox, Chrome and Chromium browser. For Edge browser everything works fine!

Pinging from CMD goes fine to local and open internet. DNS solving works also.

Chrome gives error code: ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED Firefox: Unable to connect

I'm using Windows 11.

I tried: - Disable all Firewalls in Windows 11 - Disable Windows build in virus protection - Tried DHCP and static IP - Tried 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 DNS - Latest Windows 11 Update

Windows 11 Ethernet settings Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 1000/1000 (Mbps) IPv4 address: 192.168.1.150 IPv4 DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 (Unencrypted) Manufacturer: Rivet Networks Description: Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller Driver version: 9.0.0.42 Physical address (MAC): 30-9C-23-8B-3B-F2

I highly suspect that this is something Windows 11 related.

I like to mute all of my tabs so they don't play annoying sounds. However a very annoying mute icon appears when I hover over it and the "muted" text is shown under the name. I tried adding to my userChrome.css:

@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul); .tab-icon-overlay[muted], .tab-icon-sound[muted] {

 display: none !important;

}

This only removes the muted icon, and when I hover over a tab its favicon disappears. I also tried changing browser.tabs.showAudioPlayingIcon as suggested in [answer] but it isn't an option anymore.

How do I remove it completely without changing the context menu item?

Hello, Can someone please tell me how to stop my "search bar" text from also showing up in my "address bar"? I have search the internet and found all of the following ways that have been suggested that have not worked.

I read that I should set the following to "false" to solve my problem.

1) keyword.enabled 2) browser.fixup.alternate.enabled 3) browser.urlbar.suggest.surches

I have also gone into the settings menu and un-checked everything I could find about suggestions or words or anything else being added to the address bar. The only thing that should show up in and address bar is................you guessed it: AN ADDRESS!  :-) Thanks so much for your help.

I really appreciate the help. Mark

I just updated to 96.0.3 (64-bit). Now when I go to some sites, I am automatically redirected to https://ninkorant.online/, which I have never heard of. This has never happened before the new update and I can't figure out how to stop it. There is no longer an "Options" or "Preferences" choice on any menus. I just want to stop redirect or to block the site to which I am automatically redirected. Some "solutions" I get when I search this problem involve resetting my browser, which will eliminate my add-ons and bookmarks, and I want to avoid such a drastic action. Is this a glitch in 96.0.3? What can I do? Thanks.

The themes I use normally have white backgrounds and black text. Following an update, the default colour scheme changed from a white background to a black background for web pages without the theme being changed. Google, YouTube, and Firefox pages are all using black backgrounds. I ensured that the Dark theme was disabled, selected the Light theme, then switched back to the theme I had been using; the black background returned when I switched back to the theme I wanted to use. I tried changing the colour settings under "Language and Appearance: Fonts and Colours: Colours..." to white text and black background and back to black text and white background, but no change was noticed at any point.

How do I change the page background back to white?

Hello. Recently I had to reset my Windows 10 because of non-stop "Not reponding" errors both offline and online. That went okay and I was able to re-connect to Firefox 96. But I was unable to find firefox.exe anywhere. My work-around was to copy my Win Apps icon to the taskbar in order to click on it.

The most relevant file I found was this one, which I guess means that FF crashed in the process of being reinstalled: firefox.exe.6892.dmp C:\Windows\old\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\CrashDumps I’m attaching an image that shows the details.

Despite not having a visible firefox.exe, FF works, except that it intermittently fails to fill in forms. When I search for Autofill Forms on the Security page, it is missing. I am a US user and via config tried pasting the autofill forms command and clicked +, but after closing FF, that function was still missing on Security.

So my question is what to do about the hidden firefox.exe and does that have anything to do with the missing autofill functionality?

In advance, thanks very much for your help.
