Hi there, I am coming back to Firefox after about 10 years. I would really like to customise how TABS work because I find the default behaviour disorientating.

Can you help me with the following? 1) I would like the tab bar to ALWAYS be shown, even if there is only one tab. 2) I would like the (x) to close tabs to always be shown, not just when you hover over them with the mouse. I find this confusing because I don't know where the close button is until i mouse over the tab; since the size of the tabs is always different & the border between tabs is hard to see. or if there was some way to keep tabs to a standard width that would be welcome too.

Are these things possible?

On Monday (8/16/2021) I started Firefox and all PDF links opened in its viewer. This was strange since I always have these files set to open in a third party viewer since I have to view the files while using Firefox to search related data. I checked the settings and they were set properly. I tried changing the settings to other options as well as other readers and none of them work.

I went on line and tried ever suggestion that I could find without any luck. I have reset Firefox to it original state and the issue continues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there! Since FF 91 all menu items have an incredible vertical spacing, the menu item is twice as high as before. This is a nuisance especially in the bookmark menus. I would like to have the narrow menu item spacing back, without being urged to install an AddOn or to learn CSS programming or to file a bug in this peculiar BugZilla system. Think of our family of USERS, not developers.

Yes, I understand the circumstances of free software. Yes, I see it is necessary to keep up with modern UI design and the so-called technical progress. The FF 91 UI changes slightly towards what we expect to get in Windows 11. Fine! Also, it is absolutely clear that the new menu line spacing adds more comfort to the FF usability ... on tablet PCs and smart phones. But NOT for desktop users.

As far as I know, Microsofts plans for Windows 11 still include a setting to keep the old narrow menu item height. Mozilla should do so, too. I hope the developers will take care to not lose contact to their users.

In other 'apps' on windows 10 the tooltip is above the pointer or below it. In Firefox it is directly under the mouse. So usually any tooltip popup in firefox is unreadable, mostly. One can infer the content sometimes.

How do i change that? Or what is the problem?

I'll try and include a screenshot. Hmm, the screenshot didn't include the mouse. I think i can do a video with OBS and then a screenshot of that.

Interesting, somehow in the screenshot from the obs video it shows 2 mouse pointers. One is very small and the tooltip is just below that, but the other is larger (the one I see) and it covers the tooltip. I'm using the standard windows mouse settings for larger mouse pointers. I just tried using the 'old' mouse settings to select a larger mouse and it behaves the same way. If I select size: 1 in the new size settings, and the old settings i have 'windows system' mouse, then the tooltip is under the pointer but the size is too small for the pointer. I then changed to another mouse setting in the old selector "inverted extra large" and you can see the tooltip because of the 'inverted' nature of the pointer, but the tooltip is still partially covered by the pointer.

Ideally the choice would be to put the tooltip above the mouse pointer rather than below. When you increase the size of the mouse pointer it only increases down, not up. The point of the pointer is always at the top.

I'm going to try one more thing, increasing the size in the new settings after having selected "inverted", but i recall that it changes to the new pointer style. Ah, there is an inverted setting in the new options as well, and if i select that instead of the gray color i was using then one can read the tooltip through the mouse.

So, then my question becomes "can I put the tooltip above the mouse pointer?" Because it is still covered by the mouse pointer as is. I don't see anything in 'about:config', so far.

Thank you.

Hi everyone,

I am running Firefox 91.5 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.5 and just noticed that all my addons have been disabled and can't re-enable them.

Some of them are quite common modules such as Disconnect or Privacy Badger, so wondering what this may be.

There is a similar post on this forum dating back to 2019 and it mentioned a fix on Firefox was to be developped.

Anyone experiencing the same issue at the moment.?

Please see attached screenshot.

Kind regards,

Alex

This question was asked 6 months ago and I have the same problem.

Running Ubuntu Mate 21.04 (metacity), FF 91.0.2 (64-bit). I have it set up with two different profiles, with separate menu entries for each using "firefox -P [PROFILE NAME] -no-remote %u". One of them is set to always use private browsing mode and I use that profile as my default app in mate.

If if set chrome as my default browser, I can open links from other apps without a problem regardless of chrome being already running or not.

When I set FF as default, whenever it is already open and I try to open a link, I get a "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile." error.

I've seen some comments about similar issues with wayland and tried setting MOZ_DBUS_REMOTE and even MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND to 1.

Can you help me?

I would like Firefox to access the Mac OS "Dictionary" for immediate definitions, the way it accesses its own dictionary for spelling, or as Mac's Safari, accesses the Mac dictionary. I see nothing listed in Firefox>Services, nor does the OS's Services Preferences show Firefox as an app to connect services to. I can always get the definition with a right-click on the highlighted word, but I'd like the definition to be a readily available as the spelling.

TIA,

Is there a way to determine where the add on saves files? I do not see any way to do this. My preference for "file saving" is "always ask" and I can't seem to add MP4 in the applications box. This is not a problem with Video Download Helper (3 colored circles). That add on allows one to select where things should be saved. Sometimes that add-on does not work but Video Downloader does.

Recently the majority of content types have disappeared from the Applications section in the Settings. (See the attached screenshot) Even Word and other MS Office files are not on the list any more. Consequently, when I open a Word file, Firefox asks me where to save it and does not offer to either save it or open it.

I tried editing handlers.json file and added an entry for PDF files. Now upon clicking on a link that leads to a PDF file, Firefox prompts me to open it or save it. However, if I choose to open it, the file gets saved in the Downloads folder, rather than Temp folder like previously. The result is that the Downloads folder gets filled with files that I have opened but did not want to save and keep.

I created a new Firefox profile to see whether the previous list of content types would return. This did not work, and the new profile, too, shows only a few content types.

What could be the problem? Thanks.

I been reading various guide about how to use CSS to override the hyperlink color. But it is not working, Firefox are not grabbing the userChrome.css from the folder. I am not sure if there is other step that I have to do since I did everything to enable it through multiple guides.

  • toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is enabled
  • chrome folder is created and located in my profile root folder
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css is in chrome folder
  • restarted Firefox multiple times even checking the task manager to ensure that Firefox is absolutely shut down.

Based on those above, it should be working. I thought it was the CSS code, however Stylus have no issue with the code. Yes, there are two empty rules in there because I got the impression that CSS strongly relies on inheritance. So I set this way to ensure that that nothing will be overridden by the website CSS. I created a clean fresh profile and set the same thing above and restarted Firefox. Unfortunately, it didn't work. So the addons are ruled out. my default profile is ruled out since the clean fresh profile having the same issue.

I don't know what is the possible issue of this? I don't know if my CSS is defined correctly since Stylus does not have a issue with it and applying CSS on all websites. Anyone have a clue?

My CSS content:

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

a: link {} a: visited {

   color: #ffa500 !important;

} a: hover {} a: active {

   color: #ffa500 !important;

}

I want to disable the searching in the address bar. I have already changed the configuration settings in about:config.

I have Google search set up as my home page and I want to continue using that for searches. In Firefox 91, as soon as I start typing in the search box on the home page, it jumps to the damned address bar. After changing the configuration settings, now it wants to visit whatever I typed in! I also changed browser.fixup.alternate.enabled to false per another suggestion.

I suspect I'm screwed and I'm going to have to ditch Firefox for another browser, but if someone has some magic settings, I'm all ears.

To repeat, I have already changed: keyword.enabled to false browser.fixup.alternate.enabled to false

I do not want to disable the search suggestions. I want Firefox to stop moving my cursor from the Google search box in the middle of my home page to anything in the address bar.

Hi,

I frequently have a problem where I will receive this error message every time I try to open a link from another application or the Windows desktop: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window."

The existing Firefox window is running perfectly fine with no problems, and I am forced to copy and paste links to open them.

The problem goes away temporarily if I restart Firefox but usually starts happening again not long after.

I did search for help with this problem but the only results I found were in relation to the Firefox process actually being stalled and preventing the application being re-opened, this is NOT what is occurring for me.
