Hello,

I upgraded my FireFox to the latest version 88.0 today, and noticed some changes on right click menu. In the old version, the keyboard shortcut key is a to copy a link, but now it was changed to L. That is really inconvenient. As you know, when you right click a link using the mouse, your right hand is still holding the mouse, and not easy to press the letter L on the keyboard.

The old menu option is "Copy Link Locaton", but the new one is "Copy Link".

Is it possible to customize the keyboard shortcut of right click menu, please?

Thank you! Brian

When I try to screenshot and download an image it screenshots multiple images instead. My OS is Windows 10 and I'm having this problem when trying to screenshot and download an image from Instagram. I right click on the image as I always have and it screenshots and saves multiple images instead. I never had this problem before updating to Firefox 88 and I've been using the screenshot feature for well over two years. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and I'm still having the same problem. The image I'm trying to save is the one on the upper right.

Version 87 running on Windows 10.

Error Msg: The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found.

There is a file: VCRUNTIME140.dll in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder.

I reinstalled Firefox but that didn't help.

Hi,

I am an old-timer and one update per one or two years is enough. Are automatic updates at last disabled in firefox 88 ? I tried about:config but it is too much complicated, I am nearly retired.

Perhaps could you deliver forefix, the nice-to-have version of firefox that don't bother with updates.

Hey, I want to make the UI slightly larger; I have found that modifying layout.css.devPixelsPerPx in about:config works the way I need it to. However, when using multiple screens with different resolutions, the scaling no longer appears consistent between those screens. That would make sense (since it's a per-pixel configuration), but I couldn't any configuration option that only acts as a modifier for the standard scaling mechanism. I'm using macOS (10.15.7), Firefox 88.0. Attaching a screenshot taken from both screens together (not sure how macOS handles the difference in resolution when handling screenshots, there's definitely some magic going on with macOS screenshots in general; either way, it shows the problem really well).

FF 88/widevine bug with Amazon prime videos not playing HD 1080p

Whenever I play a video on amazon prime thru FF 88 it is SD. When I go to the options for video it says HD is unavailable even if best is selected. When the video first plays the HD icon will come up for about a second, but faded, than go away right after. Usually when it does that it becomes solid white and shows HD at 1080. I'm using Win 10 64-bit Pro 20H2.

When I try watching the same videos in Chrome I have no issues and the content plays fine in HD 1080p.

I tried removing all history, refreshing FF, uninstalling and re-installing my NVIDIA drivers but same issue. I am on 88.0. No add ons or themes. Just default FF after refresh. Nothing helps.

I have seen other reports of widevine crashing but I dont have that issue. FF just wont play Amazon video in HD anymore.

Edit:

After trying some things and completely uninstalling firefox from system and all folders I finally got Amazon to play HD 1080p content again, but only a short while.

For some reason on refreshed or completely new installs of FF 88 amazon would have issues and only play SD. Even if all folders were deleted before install. When I installed the previous version of FF to 87 content was once again playing back at HD 1080p. I than updated to 88 and it was ok but only for a bit.

Even though FF 87 installed and updated widevine, FF version 88 would update it again a short while later but the version numbers of widevine (4.10.2209.1) stayed the same. Whatever version 88 is doing to widevine it seems to cause a conflict preventing Amazon from playing videos in HD content.

Edit 2:

From my other computer which had not updated to 88 yet had widevine version 4.10.1582. I took all those files and replaced the ones in the folder for 4.10.2209.1. I have updates disabled for widevine now and Amazon is playing HD 1080p once again with no issues. So whatever the update did with widevine it is definitely causing a conflict with playing back HD 1080p content on Amazon Prime video.

I have a Windows XP machine kept solely to run those applications that wont run under Windows 10, and there are several.

It has a hardware switch that removes access to my network and is only connected briefly to print to my network printer then disconnected as the default. It does allow access to the Internet but that is only ever to one particular site, nominally once per year.

One program requires a yearly update to an internal text file from its parent organization. Previously all I had to do was briefly connect to my network access that file from that organization using the Firefox version on the XP machine to download that file directly to the program that needs it.

I tried that this week May 2021 only to receive an error message from somewhere to "Try Internet Explorer".

I have a workaround solution involving my W10 machine and a thumb drive to transfer that 1K text file manually, but the process of direct transfer to the XP machine used to work, and is much more convenient.

What has changed, such that the Firefox version on the XP machine no longer works?

Ideas please.

I had a crash on firefox, I easily fix lost sessions, when I got updates or crash that lose my active session.

When I try to retrieve my sessions by copying recovery.baklz4 or recovery.jsonlz4 both of them does not work. When clicking on restore previous session, firefox rezzes a few seconds, and then the restore session tab stays blank.

I tried: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html but the website does not succesfully recovers my firefox session and the tab just crashes, I did manage to convert it to a JSON file.

I did some work on the JSON file myself, through regex and jq tool. I extracted the urls from it. I scrapped my json to make it lighter (I think the problem is from the size of my session), I scrapped the "image", "scp", json objects, trimming the size of the file, it's size was divided by almost 20.

Is there a way to recreate a sane jsonzl4 file? I have the data.

What seems weird is that backups from a few weeks is only around 20MB and by adding a few tabs, it went from 20MB to 80-90MB it's freaking huge.

Is there a way to fix this? recreate a json file and then encrypt it to jsonzl4? What can I scrape safely from my session?

I have been trying to fix this for hours, please help!

I'm honestly now sure how best to explain this because it's kind of weird, but I will try my best. Basically, Firefox thinks there's two windows open, when really there is only one. When I right click on the Firefox logo in my Dock (I'm on Mac), it tells me I have two windows open, the main window I use and then a second "What's new with Firefox" window (see screenshot). This is the "invisible" window. I have tried many things to get Firefox to realize that window doesn't exist. I've quit Firefox many times, tried to get my Mac to display all windows (it says there are no open windows when I close out of my main window), restarted my Mac, cleared cache and cookies, removed from Dock, etc. At this point, I don't know what's left to do other than remove Firefox entirely and re-install it and I would hate to do that. I hope I've provided enough detail to get the gist of the issue. If you need any more info, I'm happy to provide it! Thanks in advance for your help.
