I'm confused on how multiple accounts and sync work. Basically, I want to keep my personal browser usage from going into my work laptop.
I have 3 devices: 1.) Work laptop - always for work 2.) Mobile - always for personal use 3.) Home laptop - always for personal use
To keep my browsing history separate, I plan to use 2 firefox accounts: 1.) Work laptop - always Work firefox account 2.) Mobile - always Personal firefox account 3.) Home laptop - mostly Personal firefox account but occassionally switch to Work firefox account
I assume I can browse my Work browsing history at home by logging with my Work firefox account. But when I sync, will my personal browsing history be synced to my Work account? I don't want that to happen.

When I try to browse for a file to upload, or browse for a place to download a file, my /home/username/ directory only shows standard directories like: Desktop, Downloads, Pictures, etc.
I have other subdirectories in my home file, but they do not show up. They used to, but not anymore.
This is not a permissions or ownership issue. The other subdirectories have the same permissions and ownership. Also I have tried changing permissions to 777, nothing works.

Hi,
First of all, I would like to say that I am a Firefox user since 2007 (since we are in 2019, that's 12 years). I like it and I thank all the Firefox people that worked on it.
However, about two weeks ago I have updated my system from Debian 8 to Debian 10; and with it came a new version of Firefox.
And I don't like the way this new Firefox version looks: - it's ugly - it has out of proportion line spacing in the bookmarks - it has out of proportion line spacing in the Preferences menus - it is much less visual appealing than previous versions
Nevertheless, under the hood, I don't doubt that it is more advanced and better.
I just think it's a wrong move from the people leading Firefox at the moment. Maybe they believe they have to follow the (stupid) trend that many other software houses are following: - non intuitive icons - poor use of colors - exagerated simplifying in icons design - minimalistic screen organization - menus with less options, forcing the users to edit configuration files
All this leads to the user having to "try and guess", trying to discover how things work. 20 or 10 years ago, the softwares weren't so advanced, but they were more organized and with better menus. Today, if seems the need is to build something beautiful. But that beauty soon loses it charm after 5 minutes of interaction.
This is the sensation I get from interacting with Firefox nowadays. And it extends to the support forum, with lack of tast in the design, colors, etc. Too many steps back, in my opinion.
Using Firefox now is not as good an experience like it was some years ago. We need something that works, that has good menus, that we like to see. And not being forced to like something that others think it's the present trend. Firefox is used for the internet, so it needs to be a very good tool. Stop fooling around with it, please.
Also, when I try to solve this problem using themes, I'm stumped because I find some many themes. But the problem is that they are poor quality themes. Much quantity, but poor quality. And the search function, is horrible to say the least.
Besides, I don't understand that Firefox now calls themes to simply adding an image to the menu bar. Is that really a theme? Is this really a good service? I don't think so. I think this is dumb. And steers users away.
I don't care for flowers or manga characters in my menu bar. I just want well designed folder icons and line spacing that makes sense.
Why doesn't Firefox gives the user the choice of using the previous themes? Aren't we in 2019? Something like: Menu - Tools - Themes: - Firefox 55 theme - Firefox 56 theme - Firefox 57 theme [..] - Firefox xx theme
Can you imagine how many hours are you wasting from your millions of users that use Firefox to work and would benefit of something like this?
================================================
Having said this, now I present my goal with this post: I would like to know: - how can I reduce bookmarks line spacing?
I use Firefox to work everyday. I need it to be functional. I have thousands of bookmarks and I have organized them so they fit my screen.
Right now, I am losing much time scrolling up and down within my bookmark folders, because this new version of Firefox has a bigger line spacing than the version I used before.
Please see the attached picture.
Thank you.

How can I stop the "Important News" page on first launch of a new version Firefox ESR? Yes I know it only once but I want to suppress that notice/check page from opening. I have gone from version 60.9.0 to 68.2.0 I figured out the majority of the settings I needed to make in about:config using a mozilla.cfg file. Operating System: Windows 10 Browser: Firefox EST 68.2.0
What I tried: in my mozilla.cfg I added:
pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone","ignore");
But that did not work. I still see the "Important News" and I see that setting in my about config. Trouble shooting this is taking time having to roll back my VM every time :(
I also set the browser to not search for updates with: lockPref("browser.search.update", false);

There are several pinned tabs when I open my Firefox.
The problem is when there is no Internet connection, these tabs are displayed as requiring network connection. However when the network is connected, these tabs are not automatically updated - they still displayed as requiring network connection. I have to refresh each one of them.
Is that my configuration has problem, or the automatically refresh tab function is missing?

Hi all, am using Debian linux with Firefox 60.8.0esr (64-bit). I know the whole spiel about Firefox not supporting java applets any longer, but I have some old IoT devices that i need to get configured and they use a java applet for some portions of the configuration. I understand Firefox ESR 52 still supports java applets, and i've downloaded version 52.9.0esr and extracted it to its own location. Now i can start it without interferin with my v60 profile by running it like: "./firefox --no-remote --profile ." I had to go into options and turn off the automatic update because otherwise it updates it to v60. Then I downloaded jre-8u221-linux-x64.tar.gz and extracted that. Now the question is how do i get the plugin installed into the Firefox v52? thanks

Should have been warned that Ver68 would screw up my life. After upgrading from Ver 65 to Ver 68, my profile is not being found by the new install. I do NOT desire "synching' with other devices, and it is a security risk to have to use an "account" to do this. Not to mention getting completely screwed if I cannot access the Web or lose the password.
What idiot thinks this stuff up? What committee of monkeys on keyboards allows it to be implemented?

I exported my passwords from Chrome and used FFPass to import into Firefox.
The passwords are visible by inspecting:
Machine 1: Settings->Preferences->Privacy and Security->Saved Logins Machine 2: Settings->Logins and Passwords
But when I set-up my third machine and sync, everything gets installed correctly (bookmarks, tabs, preferences, etc) except logins. I don't see any logins; however, if I manually browse to a website, enter my login, Firefox will ask if I want to save. If I click yes, then that login is saved, but none of my imported logins are.
Can someone help? I have over 150+ logins... manually adding them one-by-one is not an option.

as far as I remember, an addon didn't cause this issue, as ive had this current set of addons for about a year, and only began to experience this issue a month or two ago, and disabling all of them doesn't fix the issue.
Would appreciate any help, as I am getting quite sick of dumping all of my bookmarks into a text file,
Ill be happy to provide any info needed, but may need a bit of help accessing it, since i haven't done virtually any in depth tinkering with firefox's inner workings

~ Here's what I tried:
- cleared cookies, cache ==> no change
- ipconfig /flushdns ==> no change
- restarting Firefox (including uninstalling and reinstalling) ==> no change (and firefox is up to date)
- trying on different browsers ==> does not work on Edge, or Opera BUT WORKS WELL ON TOR BROWSER
- downloading Chrome ==> error message tells me to check internet connection, however that can't be the issue because I can use internet just fine on every other website not affiliated with Google. (Yahoo, Facebook, etc. login screens work fine.)
Google otherwise works well on the computer I use in my office building, but it's the weekend and I have no access to that computer until Monday.
Google works normally on my phone, as far as I can tell. I haven't had to sign back in in a while.
~ Other information:
- Until I was logged out of Gmail, I noticed MOST IF NOT EVERY ICON WAS MISSING. Reply buttons, toolbar buttons, etc. were invisible, but otherwise worked if I remembered where everything was supposed to be.
- Gmail's about page is totally blank on normal browsers (Tor excluded) (attachment 2)
I would greatly appreciate any assistance as I can't keep using Tor for everything. Thank you for reading this far.

The new update (66.0.3) blocked LASTPASS and also Kaspersky protection. There was no warning and it is a major problem for my 5 computers. I NEED THESE and i'm sure many others do, as well. Unless there is an EASY and QUICK fix i will be forced to abandon firefox and i've been there from the start.
I AM APPALLED that there was no warning about these serious and disabling changes as well as what would be disabled. At least we could contact the software affected and find out if there is a fix before we are just summarily screwed by loss of function.
You may be fixing security concerns, but you have created much more serious security concerns in the process...

For what seems like perhaps a couple of weeks, I have had an odd situation where typing into the Google search box in Firefox 60.7.2esr (32-bit) causes the whole screen to fade somewhat until I click elsewhere on the screen (whether a link or an inactive area). Importantly, I am talking about the search box at Google.com, *not* the Firefox search box (the issue does *not* occur when I use the latter). It's kind of like what you see happen to the screen when activating the Windows Snipping tool, before taking the snip, though not quite *that* faded.
In the attached image, the left half is *without* the cursor positioned in the search box, and the right half -- which shows the fading -- is *with* the cursor positioned in the search box for typing.
Some points: (1) This does not happen when using Google Search in Chrome or IE. (Firefox is my default browser, BTW.) (2) This does not happen on either of my other two Windows 7 pc's, which also use Firefox 60.7.2esr (32-bit). (3) Disabling add-ons by using Safe Mode doesn't change the behavior. (4) Disabling Hardware Acceleration doesn't change the behavior.
My main concern with this behavior is in case it indicates the possibility of some kind of malware. My secondary concern is whether it might indicate some other current or potential problem with my system, although I haven't noticed any other issues thus far. Other than that, I don't mind the behavior, as it doesn't slow me down or prevent me from accomplishing anything.
Any suggestions or other thoughts? (I prefer not to do a reset.) Thanks.
