Specifically, the problem is this. When using a Flash player (audio or video) on any web page, while doing activity in another tab or window on the same browser, the sound or video stutters and chops up. Like, just mousing over links in a webpage will cause the sound to jump and stutter in time with the mouse actions. Happens with embedded audio players and video players alike. Really annoying. I reverted to an older Flash version a couple weeks ago and that fixed the issue.

I also posted about this in the Adobe Flash forum, since the problem arose when updating to the latest Flash Player version. I suppose the problem is more on the Flash end than in Firefox... though the new Flash update works well in Chrome and Safari and IE.

As someone who deals with video media on the web quite often, this handicap inherent in Firefox is a fairly big and ridiculously obvious problem. When, if ever, will it be resolved? If Firefox wasn't such a popularly used browser, this issue wouldn't be as much of a concern, but people are using Firefox quite a bit on-line. It seems very strange to me that this otherwise excellent browser from Mozilla can't play back a simple MP4 file in HTML 5.

"Firefox doesn't support MP4 and 3GP due to their patent-encumbered nature."

Is there a way of resolving that at any point? If not, is there a reliable format that I should switch to instead of MP4, like Flash? I'm aware that there are plugins available to make Firefox "see" MP4 files, but asking customers to download and install a plugin is not really a professional solution. Please advise! Thank you.

I downloaded the new version of firefox and am trying to revert back to the 11.2 version of the adobe flash player for a 64 bit windows machine, but it does not seem to work. I've downloaded it from this website (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1022066) and went through the install process, however it does not show up in my Plugins. Any ideas to get it to work?

Ok, I was basically still working the adobe flash player issue, and I stumbled across some speed test info. So I decided to play Firefox 13.0.1 off against IE9. Same PC, procedure, start Firefox, run speed test, shut down Firefox, open IE9, run test again at same site, same PC, same internet connection, yada yada. This blew me away, and I tested on 2 sites, speedtest.org and speedtest.net. Oh yeah, using Charter cable internet, Charter cable modem, direct wire connection to router on this PC.

Results: IE9 - download 52.7Mbps, upload 3.6Mbps; Firefox 13.0.1 - download 1.6 Mbps, upload 2.1 Mbps !!!! Geeze, what is up with this thing???!!!! And it's repeatable, over and over and over. No wonder video via Firefox sucks! (pardon the expletive)

I'm just a simple 65 year old, I just want stuff to work, and this just seems ludicrous, almost like it can't be true, but the 2 speed test sites compare closely to each other, with both browsers under test.

In addition, video via IE9 is super, regardless of source, my Netflix "experience" via PS3 is superb, and also VUDU via my Mits, which pegs it's speedtest.

My only conclusion is there is something wrong with Firefox, at the core, and it seems to me to be with this version, I just don't remember this stuff before.

I've done some research. I know about (about:config) and (about:cache). Maybe the weirdest thing is that (about:cache) shows nothing about where the temporary files cache is located. List Cache Entries shows all of the temporary files, but still no clue about where those files are located? [since "List Cache Entries" is under "Memory cache device", that's not helpful.]

my cache settings

I'm trying to move the temporary files cache to drive F. Finding their current location might help.

Please advise. Thanks.

Hi, I am wondering how I can turn Firefox off from connecting to several IP addresses when it starts up? I have set Firefox to remember my visited web pages/tabs, but to not load until the tab is chosen. I have also gone through the advices on the following page: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-stop-firefox-automatically-making-connections and have followed it carefully and disabled everything but to no avail. Also in the about:config I have renamed all Google http(s) links to see if it prevents FF from connecting as some of the IP addresses leads to Google (173.194.32.*), but no success. A search here on Mozilla or Google gives very little on this particular matter. I have also disabled all addons but doesn't help. The only way to prevent FF from connecting with internet is to delete "prefs.js" and "sessionstore.js", but then I loose all history. I have also used a clean FF installation and taken the "prefs.js" and "sessionstore.js" so to not loose history, but it doesn't help. Can anyone help me out, thanks!

Can anybody suggest a site that I can use to replace Real Player. One that possibly has the ease and range of Real Player. I have been all over to Real Player, Adobe, Firefox, and every other site imaginable. I have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled enough junk and useless "fixes" to fill three computers. I need a new downloader that will allow me to D-load and save videos from various sites. Is there any other site that will do that. Oh yeah, free helps too.

Whether it's on a website or if I try to load an .swf file directly, Flash makes Firefox freeze. I did not have this problem earlier today and I haven't installed anything nor made any changes to settings since then. I've tried running firefox in safe mode, reinstalling Firefox and updating Flash player, none worked.

I've also tried Chrome and IE, only Firefox has this problem.

If I disable the Flash plugin the websites loads without any problems at all, so I'm very sure it's because of Flash.

Every half hour Firefox 13.0.1 freezes for 1-2 minutes. No webpages will load and any downloads stop (and sometimes fail, most annoying). The time this occurs changes every time I reboot, but it always seems to be a multiple of five minutes, e.g. at 5 minutes past the hour and 35 minutes past the hour, or 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour. Neither Avast nor Malwarebytes can find anything that might be causing it.

Yesterday I tried to change FF cookies setup (to set it more private), after this I can't login anymore into Hotmail, if I clear the cookies, the login page shows up, otherwise, I got the following error message: The Windows Live Network is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons:

This site may be experiencing a problem
The site may not be a member of the Windows Live Network

This is my environment: - XP SP3 - FF 13.0.1

This is what I was trying to do: - went to options > privacy > selected Use Custom Settings for History, then checked all checkbox and selected Ask Me Every Time for Keep Until After these changes, I went to hotmail site (http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1269023404&rver=6.0.5285.0&wp=MBI&wreply=http:%2F%2Fco102w.col102.mail.live.com%2Fdefault.aspx&lc=1033&id=64855&mkt=en-us), if I have no cookies, then the login page will show up, but as soon as I click Sign In, I got the error message, after this, when I tried to bring up the sign in page, the error msg page showed up, until I clean up my cookies. I tried to change my cookie settings back to the previous setting to no avail. Now I'm stuck, I'm not sure if the problem is due to my changes or changes in Hotmail site. I have to use IETab to login to Hotmail, otherwise FF won't work. I've tried to clean up cookies and histories, after the clean up, the Sign In page showed up, but when I Sign In, I got the error, and afterward, the login page won't show up any longer (that's until I clean up my cookies).

Anyone is having similar problems with Hotmail?

ps: I already tried to clean the cookies and history used FF Safe Mode to no avail.

Thanks for your help and comment/suggestion Michael

I selected auto update with Firefox. Until now, this has not been a problem. Lately my computer has been running so slow. I believe it has something to do with the plugin-container file. Why do I need this to run? I'm not a programmer, and I don't have admin privileges on my work computer anyway. Even if I did, I wouldn't want to go through all of the solutions that I see. Additionally, all of the solutions that I see are for versions 3 and 4. I find it hard to believe that no new solutions have come with the new upgrades.

Maybe it's time to find a new browser. :-(

In some windows, Firefox puts the New Tab "+" button to the left of my tabs instead of the right. This seems to be more likely to happen when it re-opens windows from a previous session (not sure that's always true). In the window I'm typing this, the + tab button is to the left of my tabs, but if I open a new Firefox window, it is correctly to the right of the tabs.

Also, even in a window that incorrectly places the + tab button to the left of the tabs, when I go into Customize mode, it immediately and correctly shows it on the right. As soon as I close the "Customize Toolbar" window, it bounces back to the left edge.

As you can imagine, any button appearing in different places in different windows or at different times is annoying and breaks the UX. I also worry this may be a symptom of some more serious problem, though everything else appears to still work, even in those windows where the new tab button is in the wrong place.

Why does this happen and can I stop it? I have seen nothing about this posted here, but I've had this problem at least since version 12, and it's still happening in 13.0.1. I have the same problem on multiple computers, including after new installs. I don't use many add-ons -- LastPass, XMarks... I think that's it.

<This may be a duplicate post -- I thought I posted this earlier this morning, but after creating and confirming my new account to post to the forum, it never appeared, so now re-posting. Apologies if there is just a long lag and both appear. I think this is the more detailed posting though.>

So I basically downloaded an app on Brothersoft that installed a toolbar to my Firefox called mystart.incredibar. I uninstalled it using the control panel and I uninstalled it from firefox using the plugin manager but whenever I open a new tab "mystart.incredibar.com/mb128?a=6OyFjRehaF&loc=FF_NT" opens up instead of a blank page, now I don't have a problem with it as is but the fact that it loads the page each time is pretty pointless since I only use google.

SCREENSHOT

I tried using an addon called NewTabUrl to use a blank page instead of a url but it didn't work, does anyone have an idea on how I can rid this website from loading in a new tab each time?
