Hi! For several days I've been unable to check notifications and click emoticons on FB. I just spoke with a tech who checked other browsers (Chrome, Safari) as well as my phone and I was able to do both with them all. But I still can't in Firefox. I've checked to make sure I'm updated, and I am. So she suggested I reach out to you. Should I try uninstalling Firefox and re-installing? I'm assuming I'll lose my history? Thank you!

I often need to print or download pdf presentation files from online sources which I used to do on Safari (I use imac) On Safari, the pdf presentation automatically rotates on the print page, so then I can use "save as PDF" on portrait and everything looks good. (then I just rotate the file to landscape on Preview or PDFexpert to read the presentation).

When I try to do the same on Firefox, on the print page, the presentation does not rotate and remain landscape. The problem is, when I choose landscape to print, then the presentation is not centered on the page and skewed to one side so I get much wider margin on one side.

Is there a way to fix this issue?

I appreciate any advice or input!

I have a new MacBook Pro 2020 with MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1. I have made Firefox the default browser by going to the Apple menu and choosing System Preferences then choosing General. I have also made Firefox the default browser by going to the Firefox menu and choosing Preferences then General. On that screen it says that Firefox is not my default browser and there is a box to click on that says "Make Default". I click on it then click on "use Firefox", but when I click on links in my email Safari still opens. Any suggestions.

For the last week or so, I've been having an issue with media not playing properly on websites. Specifically, when I read webpages which have embedded Twitter images or videos, I see the message "The Media Could Not Be Played" where a screenshot of the media used to appear. There is a blue "Reload" button, and when I click it, I can briefly see the screenshot for a split second before "The Media Could Not Be Played" re-appears.

With YouTube videos, they fail to play and I get the message "An error occurred. Please try again later". This happens with both embedded videos on webpages, and directly on the YouTube website itself.

All of this media works properly when I open the same pages in another browser like Chrome. I would prefer not to switch browsers. Is there a way to fix this error?

On my home network, I run a Ubiquiti UniFi Network (Security Gateway, Switch and WiFi Access Points). I access the administrative functions with UniFi Controller software which accesses those functions via https://localhost:8443. The Gateway Roouter itself is at 10.0.0.1:443, but cannot be administered at this address.

When I try to access the website, I get the standard Firefox invalid security certificate warning as the certificate is self-signed (image 1). Once I Accept the Risk and Continue, I can successfully log into the site. But once I quit my Firefox session, whenever I launch Firefox and try to access the site, I am again given the same invalid security certificate.

Previously, I was able to create a certificate exception which bypassed that warning, but no longer.

When I go into Firefox's Preferences : Privacy & Security : Certificates : View Certificates page, I can see a Temporary exception (image 2), which presumably only lasts for the current session. I try to Add Exception, enter my localhost port number' (image 3), then click on Get Certificate. It tells me that I have valid, verified identification. There is no need to add an exception (image 4).

And yet, every time I visit the localhost website, I am prompted with the warning. Any ideas of what I might do avoid this warning every time I want to access it? Is there some way to allow this device (or even ALL devices) on my home network to be trusted?

Also attached are images of my UniFi Certificate.

Thank you for any assistance.

Hi all,

After month of using, the screenshot function of Firefox seems to have disappeared. Right click contextual menu does now show the option to take a screenshot and the [three dots] -> Take Screenshot menu action does nothing. Moreover, the icon of the function seems to be missing (see attached images). I run latest (83 64-bit) version on a new MacBook pro.

Thanks in advance, Alex

Firefox had been telling me I needed to do an update for a couple of weeks. So like a fool, today of all days, I said yes. But I did look at what the update was going to do to make my final decision. It looked good so I said OK.

What it actually did was download the complete app and ask if I wanted to keep the old version as well. So I kept the older version (which had been up to date to this point) and opened the new one. It appeared to be totally "plain vanilla" with none of my bookmarks or windows, etc. I looked for my Bookmarks and all it had was some of my bookmarks from the Bookmarks Bar, none of my tons of years of important and properly organized bookmark folders.

I immediately quit, rebooted my computer, and went back to my older app - remember the one I did say to keep - and I got exactly the same behavior from it. I then completely trashed the "new" version and rebooted my computer again . . . then tried the older version . . . but that time things got worse. I did not even get the old Bookmarks Menu bar.

I then rebooted and went to my backup, brought back the copy from my last backup a month ago, and tried to run it. This time I got a message saying that opening the older version could destroy all my settings . . . but I did not care as I would rather go back a month ago than be where I am now! However, it would not allow me to open the older version because of the possibility of destroying . . . nothing!

HOW do I at least get back to my older version that would have probably 90% of my older Bookmarks/Folders and settings? I have that older copy and a full backup of my HD . . . but I do not know what, other than the Foxfire Application I need to look for and replace on my system. I assume there are some files stored in System folders that I need to replace, but I could not find them as I can't find anything in the Library or System directories that are identifiable as Firefox files.

All help appreciated . . . guess there will be no Cyber Monday shopping for me!

Thanks!

Hi- i'm a little confused about the "collections" feature on my pixel. is it supposed to carry over onto my computer? I'd love to access my collections on my desktop. I also recently upgraded my phone- my collections haven't transferred over to my new phone and that's also frustrating. I might just be an idiot but i can't seem to find any documentation on whether collections syncs between desktop and mobile; an indication that this is generally thought to be so obvious it needs no documentation.

Whenever I have to go to a videoconference hosted through the browser (like GoogleMeet or Theranest), Firefox asks me to choose a camera, but it doesn't allow me to choose the built-in FaceTime camera on my iMac. The only option it offers is EpocCam, which I have installed on my phone but never use. (I've attached a screenshot so you can see that I can't choose any other camera – it just doesn't give me the option!) I must have selected EpocCam once several months ago, but I cannot figure out how to get rid of it as an option on Firefox and I can't choose the built-in camera. I've searched for hours to find a solution but can't figure out how to deal with this. I don't have a similar problem on Safari, which is the only other browser I have installed at this point; and I don't want to migrate all my stuff to a new browser just because of this presumably easy-to-solve problem. Help!

Current preference settings are increased font size to 14pt and zoom 110%. Since I set those preferences some websites, mainly ones with form fields, come up as a boxed question mark. Also when I do an internet search is comes out crazy alien like text / weird code. See attached screen shot of a basic search for 'books'. I prefer using Firefox over Safari and would love to remedy this.

Using current version 83 on Mac OS 10.15.7.

In recent weeks, calls with audio have become buggy in Firefox. Whenever I engage in a call that accesses the microphone while I have a bluetooth headset connected, the headset starts continuously toggling call mode on and off for an extended duration. This can be anywhere from 10 seconds/3ish toggles to never-ending (meaning I got tired of waiting after about 3 minutes/55ish toggles).

Today I finally decided to debug further. Here are my findings:

  • Problem only exists in Firefox. I tested with Safari, Chromium, Slack and Discord, with no trouble presenting itself in any of them
  • Problem relates to all bluetooth headsets. I have tested with Sennheiser Momentum 2 Wireless and Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless, with both exhibiting the problem in Bluetooth mode. If I have no bluetooth headsets connected, the problem does not present itself. There is also no problem if I connect the Arctis using the wireless base station (which in turn is connected to the laptop by USB) instead of bluetooth. Using the base station, call and non-call are exposed to my mac as different/simultaneous channels — this may have something to do with it.
  • Problem persists with hardware acceleration toggled off
  • Problem persists in safe mode
  • Problem persists in private mode
  • Problem persists both on Whereby.com and Discord.com. On Whereby, it also interferes with the camera. This leads me to believe it might have something to do with WebRTC, as I think both websites use it.
  • Problem persists after reinstalling Firefox
  • On a possibly related note: if I end the voice chat session after it has stabilised, call mode toggles off slowly and always sends a "start playing media" signal to my Mac, even if it didn't pause anything when toggling call mode on.

In sum, this leads me to believe there is some sort of bug in Firefox causing this, but the lack of other topics on here with the same problem makes me skeptical. I am open to any suggestions with regards to further testing I can do. This is obviously very annoying, and I would like to have bluetooth calls working again.

Hello,

I'm posting because I found nothing on the internet about this.

When I want to drag and drop a file from Firefox (for example : an image) to my desktop, the file always get placed somewhere decided by Firefox instead of the place I wanted.

Example : I want to drag and drop an image from Firefox on the bottom left of my screen, and it gets placed on the top right.

This is really annoying because Firefox always decide a different place to put the file, and I always lose time looking for the file on my desktop.

This is the only application that I use that does this.

Is this possible to fix ?

Thank you for helping !

Recently, I have been blocked from visiting certain websites by Firefox, which are perfectly fine websites. I have to close out of Firefox and use Safari to connect to these websites. One of the websites is my City of San Bruno website: https://www.onlinebiller.com/sanbruno/index.html.

This is just one of several websites in which I'm told the website there is a potential security issue. Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue: I copy and pasted the warning below: "Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.onlinebiller.com because this website requires a secure connection. What can you do about it? www.onlinebiller.com has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site.

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it.

If you are on a corporate network or using anti-virus software, you can reach out to the support teams for assistance. You can also notify the website’s administrator about the problem."

I contacted the City of San Bruno and was told it's a browser problem. As I mentioned above I can connect to these sites through Safari with no problem.

Thank You for any explanation/assistance on how to connect to these websites using Firefox.

Hello, I use Firefox on my Mac, and I'm a seller on Etsy. For several days now, I have not been able to get to any page on the Etsy site (my shop, Etsy home page, Etsy help, other shops...). I can get there on my iPhone (Safari) and by using Chrome, which I would rather not use.

I've tried shutting down my Mac, and I've tried quitting and re-starting Firefox.

This is not the first time I've had this issue, but this is the longest it has lasted. I checked with a friend who is also an Etsy seller, and she's experiencing the same problems. It occurs to me that the intersection between Etsy sellers and Firefox users might well be a large group.

The details: MacBook Pro 2015, MacOS Catalina 10.15.7; Firefox 83.0. Today is 2 Dec 2020.

If this is about clearing the cache, I'd appreciate some info about how to do it, as well as what might else could be impacted.

Thanks for any help on this!
