It's infuriating, this is the second time in two months that Firefox synch has just signed out without a prompt from me. When i sign back in there are no passwords or data. It's very worrying. Why? how do I fix it? WHAT has happened to all that very critical and private data? I'm very worried that I put my trust in Mozilla when actually it's flaky as hell and just as dangerous.

Using Linux Mint, Firefox 59.0.2, 32 bit

When Firefox was reopened after a reboot, Norton detected an intrusion attempt from a fake website. What's strange is two things: 1. The website was last accessed erroneously (misspelled it when entering it on address bar) three weeks prior. 2. The fake website was not being opened by any of the tabs reopened when Firefox loaded! Note that the reboot and reloading of Firefox mentioned above happened after another Norton warning that it detected a large amount of outbound network traffic. That warning occurred while I was cleaning up my long browsing history in order to reduce memory usage by Firefox. As a result of the warning, I ran several scans using Norton's Power Eraser, none of which resulted in any related security issues detected.

So, short of the offending website having hijacked a legitimate Add-on already installed when the site was first accessed, which I'm finding hard to believe, I cannot understand how that website could attempt to do anything if none of the tabs being opened from the previous session are pointing to it! Or can it, and could it have been running in the background all this time, stealing keystrokes and/or data from my computer - all from one quick linking to it, without any further access therein????? Is there a way to see what commands Firefox is executing at start-up and during a session?

My issue is about how easy can it be to use two profiles in Windows. It has two parts. The first part seems impossible (but I'll discuss it anyway) and the actual question is mostly about the second part.

1) Having different taskbar icons for different Firefox profiles

This seems impossible as it requires different AppUserModelIDs (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd378459%28v=vs.85%29.aspx), as explained here: "You're right. What you need is for each Firefox profile instance to have a different AppUserModelIDs. But this involves patching the Firefox code and building on your own or possibly writing a custom app that will launch Firefox with under a forced ID. Either way, there is no simple solution." (at https://superuser.com/questions/325483/how-can-i-set-different-taskbar-icons-for-firefox-profiles-in-windows-7#comment353345_325526)

So that first part is unsolvable unless one is willing to run two different versions of Firefox (which are two different browsers for any purpose). If not (if one just wants to have two different profiles on any single version of Firefox), then the AppUserModelID will always be the same and Windows will always group them as belonging to the same app, which is neither Windows' fault nor Firefox's.

Since part 1 is impossible, I'd like some help working on part 2, at least.

2) Having secondary profile(s) as entries in Firefox's jumplist

There's no use pinning shortcuts for secondary profiles to the taskbar, as they might open these profiles but will never indicate whether they are open or not. So, as only one (the main) shortcut for Firefox will ever be used, I'd like to have secondary profile(s) as entries in its jumplist. Can it be done? If yes, how?

(I know there are third party jumplist tools, but AFAIK they create new jumplists with custom items in them, not actually editing softwares' original jumplists. If I am wrong, please do point tools that accomplish this.)

Hi all,

I guess I'm not the only one who has this problem... Since the latest Firefox update to the 59.0.2 version I can no longer load the outlook.com page on my I-Mac with OS 10.9.5, altough I have no problem to do it on the Mac book air...?? What it does when I try to open or refresh the outlook.com page is that it begins to load, enough so I see my new emails but the page crashes before I even can open a mail, the ads on the right don't have the time to load either. I tried the workaround by editing the stylo parameters but it doesn't change a thing. And of course I tried to restart everything quite a few times. I'm sending several crash reports a day but to my surprise it appears Mozilla haven't come back with a fix for that after a week. Does anybody have a clue of how making it work whitout having to restore Firefox's previous version?

Thanks!

When I invoke a New Window, I almost always prefer to immediately start typing the URL, maybe wait a moment for autocomplete, and hit ENTER. No clicking into the Address field, no waiting for Home Page to load. I am looking for the option to have my New Windows open BLANK with the cursor blinking in the Address field, ready for input (as in other browsers)? Is there a Preferences setting for this obvious option that I'm overlooking?

Hi - first time i got scared by malware today - opened FF and processor went crazy - so i exited it via taskman - but a second window had opened uncommanded - investigating via history clearly its a nefarious link.

i have ghostery and other protection so thankfully it seems no damage was done. but i dont know if this was phishing or what - perhaps more aggressive in fact??

posted to phishing reporting site just now - but thought i'd post here too in case other people have this problem, and to maybe learn more. going to install ublock addin after reading an earlier post.

wasn't doing anything remotely sketchy when this hit but investigating keyboard layouts at kbd-intl.narod.ru/english/layouts - which SEEMED innocent and useful enough.... but clearly that was the trigger - hibids10.com/ is also implicated - maybe i clicked on an image or something.

I have tried everything I can think of to manually set the DNS addresses in all of my network adapters and when i first start up Firefox, it shows my DNS (using whoer.net) as the one I set it to. But usually after about 5 or 10 minutes it starts showing either two DNS addresses, the original one I set and also one from Belgium (194.187.251.66), or just the one from Belgium, for some reason. Is there any way to stop this from happening? I am using a vpn and socks5 and if the DNS location does not match my IP address location, then it looks like I am attempting to hide my location.

Thanks for your assistance.

Every once in a while, I go back and try something that worked in older versions of FF -- accepting some cookies and not accepting others.

In the current version, 59.0.3, I go to options, security and scroll down, I've added yahoo to my Exceptions to "allow" rather than "allow for session" and then set the general setting "keep until they expire". Now, this setup seems to be a way to whitelist only those sites I want to allow cookies, expiring others when I close FF -- as that's the most control I now have, the "ask every time" being gone. However, when I close FF and re-open, it hasn't kept the yahoo cookies as the exception implies it should.

How can I customize which cookies stay past the session and which don't?

There are three separate issues here. In my attempts to troubleshoot, I only found examples of the first. 1. Youtube window is smaller than it should be. Problem is only present when signed in to Youtube account, disappears in private window and when I log out. Not present in Chrome at all. 2. "," and "." keys, normally used to advance or regress by one frame, will still do that but unpause the video. Present in private view and when logged out of Youtube account. Not present in Chrome. 3. Clicking on the red bar at the bottom of a video you skip to a different part of the video will very frequently unpause the video, but not always. Not present in Chrome.

I've tried clearing cookies/cache, refreshing and restarting Firefox, and disabling hardware acceleration. None has worked.

When ever I try to sign into Youtube or Gmail which in linked to my Youtube account, I enter my e-mail click next and nothing happens. The next button just blinks to acknowledge I've clicked it but nothing else happens, Gmail does the same. It works fine with IE and Chrome but Firefox is my main browser.

LinkedIn has a similar problem, whe I try to sign in I just get the little back and fouth signing in bar constantly. Once again it works fine with IE and Chrome. I've tried disabling all my add-ons and clearing cookies but nothing.

It's really annoying having to open separate browsers for Youtube and LinkedIn

Anyone else experince this?

Hi. Since some times when I access ebay, in the notify balloon I do not see anymore the name of whom contacts me, but this strange string

  1. ghn-desc-a#

I contacted their support and they said that it is a problem of browser,a nd they told me that perhaps it has come time to use another browseer, e.g. Chrome... I told 'em that it wasn't a good answer and that I cannot realize that the issue where from a browser instead than from a site which would be as much crossbrowser as possible. He insisted that I had to drob firefox and I answered him that rather I'll be thought that for me has come time to change site! And he closed the chat. Anyway, let's drop that: it is there some specific problems with ebay and firefox?
