To start, I am using Windows 10 and Firefox 75.0. I have recently reinstalled Firefox and have run into a problem that makes the program unusable. When launching the browser after installation, it will never open and instead get stuck endlessly closing and opening a process in task manager. It is also not possible to terminate the process without either restarting my computer or uninstalling, as it will give an error saying the process does not exist anymore. This also seems to open and close consent.exe in the system32 files endlessly. I've tried multiple previous versions of Firefox in order to try and mitigate this problem, but all of them encounter the same result. I've uninstalled, deleted all of my profiles, cleared all files in appdata, and even tried deleting registry files related to the browser, but the problem persists. A similar problem seems to have been encountered by another user, but their problem seemed to fix itself (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1589424). Firefox also doesn't seem to produce any errors with this issue, so I am unsure of what to do.

EDIT: As of this writing I figured out the problem. It turns out my user account control panel had been disabled and was trying to launch itself to verify permissions. My user account did not have full control over the application, hence UAC trying to activate. Changing my account permissions solved this problem.

Firefox came preinstalled as snap package on ubuntu 18.04, but has been giving trouble since

I'm running through problems when downloading files:

The open with dialog application does not see most applications, in particular it doesn't see evince nor libreoffice. The dropdown defaults to "Url Handler Script (default)", which does nothing with my files.
If I choose to open the file with firefox (say a pdf file) a blank page appears

All these options work with chrome though..

The only way I can view a downloadable file is by saving it somewhere in my home directory and then open it which is a pain!

Obviously snap firefox doesn't access anything beyond thatI've successfully installed Firefox as a snap package (done by default by installing it through Ubuntu's "software center"). It does work, and give me a more recent version of Firefox than the one available through APT.

I'm running through problems when downloading files, though:

Saving them in /tmp/ does not work, since the snap version of Firefox uses a different filesystem than the one of the host computer, hence Firefox and non-snap applications see different content in /tmp/.

If I save a downloaded file, the open containing folder button in the downloads list does not work. I'm guessing that it tries to open nautilus, but fails to do so because nautilus is a non-snap application.I've successfully installed Firefox as a snap package (done by default by installing it through Ubuntu's "software center"). i've already tried all of the fixes stated here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files and i've tried logging out my mozilla account and downloading, i've tried starting firefox in safe mode without any add-ons, i've tried pretty much everything i can think of. no matter what the download fails and a 0kb file is created instead. when i try to download a webpage i get a 0kb html file and a folder containing all the contents of the html file, also i can download images perfectly fine even though it says they fail. i've tried downloading multiple types of files and it's not just webpages, .zip files fail, .exe files fail, everything that isn't a photo fails. the only other thing i can think of is .pdf files do a similar thing to html files, where a 0kb .pdf is created and a .pdf.part file is created the size of the actual pdf. also i've tried downloading using other browsers (excluding chrome, because it crashes my pc on startup) and they've worked perfectly fine, firefox and firefox nightly are the only programs having this issue.

Too many functions have been lost. I have a more up to date laptop but I'm not going to update the OS on my main desktop computer because too many other software programs would need to be updated - such as video editing and Adobe programs - which work fine as they are. Sadly my browser in future will have to be Safari or Chrome, which work fine with the current OS.

New update has completely ruined my browsing. Completely changed everything and removed all my saved data, a lot of links to websites, saved passwords and everything else just gone after an update I didn’t accept or get asked for. How the hell do I get my old information back. I don’t even know if my account was through this accounts email or not. It’s really pissed me off

I am using Firefox as portable app, with --no-remote --profile "%profile_path%". I update it regularly, it's convenient for me to see notifications of new updates and install them whenever I see fit. I recently noticed that Firefox creates a folder on every computer C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates, which is not good for the portable version, really. The only way to stop this I found was to completely disable updates via distribution\policies. I don't want to. How do I get firefox to notify me of updates and download them to a USB flash drive (it will be perfect if i could specify folder for this purpose) instead of leaving files on other people's computers?

In the admin account and all user accoutns, I had Firefox > Options > Advanced > NO UPDATES and turned OFF "Use a background service to install updates."

I created a new account on this computer. The VERY FIRST THING I did was go to Firefox > Options > Advanced > NO UPDATES and turned OFF "Use a background service to install updates."

Guess what. It updated. It updated for all accounts.

I've easily lost four work days of time in the first 8 months of 2019 because of FIrefox updates. I need a way to stop updates. ALL updates. FOREVER. ALL UPDATES UNCONDITIONALLY BLOCKED. No leakage. I do not want them with a goat. I do not want them on a boat. I do not want them here or there. I do not want them anywhere. Is there any remaining ambiguity?

The ways described above don't cut it. So let's think unconventionally. Is there a file I can set the protections on, so Firefox's update balks and gives up? Can I create a file that has a name that Firefox update expects, and give that file some content or property so that Firefox update fails?

I am in my late 70s and need software that works as advertised. I will not put up with software that requires lots of my time to keep working. I have a FF account for my computer (I do not have or want any other devices). I am getting thoroughly sick of the nag screen in top right corner to the point that if I cant solve this soon I WILL move to another browser. Updating is set to Auto, I have tried the other settings and they still did not help so went back to auto. I have downloaded and installed FF69 but it did not pick up any of my bookmarks etc so is totally useless and now my adblock on FF67 is broken.
