Long running scripts have been a constance daily occurrence every time I use my desktop computer since seems like forever. This is the latest one: chrome://calendar/content/calendar-base-view.xml:198..... Not sure if they are all calendar scripts because I'm not always given any script info, just a non responding error message sometimes. I asked for help once before and tried what was suggested, as best I could, but I still have the aggravating problem just as often as ever. However, admittedly I'm not all that computer savy and am more of a user than I am a fixer. My browser is up-to-date and I also reloaded a new one recently. Add-ons are also disabled. Any help at all will be appreciated, thanks.

In the admin account and all user accoutns, I had Firefox > Options > Advanced > NO UPDATES and turned OFF "Use a background service to install updates."

I created a new account on this computer. The VERY FIRST THING I did was go to Firefox > Options > Advanced > NO UPDATES and turned OFF "Use a background service to install updates."

Guess what. It updated. It updated for all accounts.

I've easily lost four work days of time in the first 8 months of 2019 because of FIrefox updates. I need a way to stop updates. ALL updates. FOREVER. ALL UPDATES UNCONDITIONALLY BLOCKED. No leakage. I do not want them with a goat. I do not want them on a boat. I do not want them here or there. I do not want them anywhere. Is there any remaining ambiguity?

The ways described above don't cut it. So let's think unconventionally. Is there a file I can set the protections on, so Firefox's update balks and gives up? Can I create a file that has a name that Firefox update expects, and give that file some content or property so that Firefox update fails?

On my lap top yesterday and my desktop, Firefox has logged my off and blocked me to my New York Times subscription. Different machines, different locations, different broadband providers. Whatever I do Firefox prevents a login. I have no problems with either Edge or Chrome, but Firefox has long been my preferred browser. Now my preferred browser is preventing me from accessing a favored website. I contacted the NYT and they suggested it was Firefox problem. Help. Thank you

1. Synced my Firefox sync account

2. Disconnected my Firefox sync account

3. Reinstalled windows

4. Installed Firefox 56 (I was using 63 but i only had 56 installer)

5. Updated it to 65.0.1.

6. Connected my Firefox sync account

Problem -

1. All bookmarks didn't sync.

I created bookmark HTML backups and it were of 6mb and my latest backup is 171mb.

There are 2980 differences in 173mb backup and Backup taken after again connecting to FirefoxSync. I used WinMerge.

2. HTML backups also contain fav-icons [and Firefox Sync only syncs links not fav-icons.]

When browser is used fav-icons are loaded but after sync fav-icons are loaded as pages are loaded , so there are no fav-icons and html backup size is less than the last backup.

3. Could be related to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1251781

4. There could be something wrong with Firefox's Exporting. Imported the same 173mb HTML to chrome and Firefox then exported HTML backups. Firefox Export was of 61.1Mb Chrome Export was of 12.9Mb

So, I haven't used Firefox for a few years, since they broke most of the good long-time add-ons such as Speeddial & TabMixPlus.

I decided to give it another try, since I've been with it from the very beginning.

I was using FVD Speeddial on Opera until they broke speedials so they could put their ads on the front page. Then i switched to Chrome, and it was easy because it has FVD Speeddial as well. I'm really definitely no fan of cloud backups to random companies, but it seems Firefox has gone the same way, FVD Speeddial is the only decent option on Firefox now, and When trying to make that my home-page, it was a bit tricky/shady.

Anyway, Copying and Pasting from Chrome to Word is a breeze, everything is retained, colors, fonts, line spacing everything. I really thought that was just any browsers capability. I'm certain Firefox of old never had this problem, but when I tried to Copy and Paste from FireFox all the formatting was lost. This is a brand New Installation, with only FVD SpeedDial installed as the only add-on. I thought it was a problem with my Office at first. I couldn't believe Firefox broke everything.

Anyway, you guys are really just not doing well anymore, and I don't know why or wtf happened. it's almost like you just dgaf anymore. You say you're made for people, yet try your best to look like browsers who dgaf about people and only care about profits. You need to go beg forgiveness from all the add on developers you've screwed over.

Unfortunately I just still can't use Firefox in its current state.

Best of Luck getting it working

When I middle click, I can't get the autoscroll to stay on firefox. I've removed it, reinstalled it, done a full system sweep with Revo to remove remnants, tried a different mouse, gone into the firefox settings and preferences, even the code, tried incognito mode, tried safe mode, and tried removing all add-ons but to no avail.

It works on my laptop, and it will show the autoscroll image briefly then it disappears after I let go of the middle mouse.

A pop-up from Mozilla said 'Mozilla Firefox Critical Error!' with a phone number to call (message said to call Microsoft support). I called the phone number, believed the representative, gave him remote access to my computer (over 1 hr.). Was told the were hacker files in my system and they installed new virus protection and disabled the virus protection I had on my system. Found out this is a ploy hackers use to steal info. Does Mozilla activate a pop-up warning as mentioned above? ... or have I been scammed?

Hi,

in pre Quantum versions, you could make your Firefox safe against malware with a simple trick. It was little known but very effective because it uses Windows tools to limit Firefox abilities to write or modify files. We use the Windows program icacls to limit write access to a selected set of subfolders. Here is how it worked:

icacls "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /setintegritylevel low
icacls "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low
icacls "C:\Users\[...]\AppData\Local\Temp" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low
icacls "C:\Users\[...]\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low
icacls "C:\Users\[...]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low
icacls "C:\Users\[...]\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low
icacls "C:\Users\[...]\AppData\LocalLow\Mozilla" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low
icacls "[...]\Downloads" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low
icacls "[...]\Firefox Profile" /setintegritylevel (oi)(ci)low

Then I updated to Quantum and now this seems to not work anymore. After I secured Firefox in this way and started Firefox, Firefox then doesn't show any websites (just grey area), no popups etc. The whole Firefox UI seems to be broken.

Does anyone know how to fix this? For example, are there additional folders I need to give access to? Or is this not possible in post Quantum Firefox because of this new process architecture etc.?
