Running Windows 10 on HP Pavilion Desktop, Firefox stopped allowing any access to https pages 5 days ago. Constant immediate error messages, sometimes "Secure Connection Failed", sometimes "Connection timed out".

(I am posting this from an old Windows 7 Computer ( I can't from the Windows 10 one as I can't log in on it - no chance of syncing it).

I have Kapersky and contacted them and not Kapersky problem. Did clean resintalls of Firefox. No Joy. Tried old versions of Firefox. No Joy.

Hired a techie geek, they spent 8 hours trying to get it to work. We tried everything in this link plus more https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems

The issue is with my firefox installed on my dell inspiron, working on windows 8.1. For the past month I've stopped being able to download the PDF file for my monthly bank statements. I've exchanged multiple e-mails with my bank's Online Banking technical support, but no one there is using Firefox 40; only IE, which Avast broke for me a couple of years ago and has been non-functioning ever since.

One thing I wanted to try is to prevent Firefox from opening the PDF file into its own browser window. I just want to download the file, not view it in the browser (which is failing to happen anyway). Is there anything in about:config that I could tweak to prevent Firefox from firing up its own PDF internal viewer? What may be complicating matters is that I refuse to use Adobe as my PDF reader. BLOATWARE. Instead I use Foxit Reader, which is extremely fast, small, has never failed me in the past and continues to work perfectly when I download PDF files from all other web sites.

One more thing. When Firefox is downloading the file in question the download proceeds quite rapidly, then abruptly stops. The error message that pops up is as follows:

"Secure Connection Failed

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

• The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

• Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem."

One final thing: I am on a dial-up connection. But since the download appears to proceed quite rapidly (takes less than twenty seconds before it suddenly quits on me), then I rather doubt my slow connection speed could be causing the problem.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.

I foolishly responded to a prompt on my screen suggesting there was a problem with Firefox. I clicked Refresh Firefox and seemed to be on a genuine page. After that I had lost my add-ons, like Ghostery. All attempts to access it failed as I either got an 'Untrusted Connection' message or simply a list of words from the website (in blue). Even the page for add-ons from the Firefox menu does not work. Then I discovered that other pages like Yahoo, gmail, and Wunderground gave the same problem. Firefox has become unusable. I uninstalled it and renewed it, to no avail.

It works fine for maybe 2 hours and then it stops loading any website. My other browsers still work. I have to force quit Firefox to get it to load pages again. It stops responding when I just quit the app so I have to force quit it. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps: Changing proxy, enabling/disabling firewall etc. but none of it seem to work. It's really annoying at this point! Any help?

Yahoo mail gives untrusted connection error

When I log into Yahoo mail on Firefox 40.0.3 (on Windows 7) on my company-supplied laptop, I get this message: "You have asked Firefox to connect securely to us-mg5.mail.yahoo.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure."

I cannot create an exception: "This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate."

The "technical details" section states: "us-mg5.mail.yahoo.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"

This does not happen at home, so the company laptop has something to do with it, but, even on the company laptop I do not have this problem when using Chrome, so it's not that the company does not allow access to outside mail.

On Firefox, the problem is intermittent. Sometimes, there is no problem and everything works fine. Clearing history/cookies/cache and restarting does not fix the problem. It sometimes goes away on its own for a little while, but then returns.

I have searched every database I could for answers, but have found no solution yet. The computer clock is correct, I'm not using Avast, etc. (some of the other situations I've run across).

I hope that I can get this resolved, because I'd rather keep using FF, which I've used for years, than switch to Chrome.

Thanks for your help, in advance.

Recently I have been getting the Connection Timed Out on certain sites. I have cleared my cache and cookies, and it still happens. I tried it in safe mode and it still happens. I am not sure what else to do besides just uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, and I don't know if that will even help.

Now, here is the real kicker. The warning doesn't always to it to the same sites, and it almost happens randomly. For the longest time it didn't happen, and now it seems to start up again.

So I really have no idea what to do. Can someone please help me. Also I am a bit of a novice when it comes to computer speak, so if you have a question that may be a bit overwhelming, could you dumb it down a bit for me.

Youtube the site will load but videos don't play and certain things on the website will just not load correctly. I am running windows 7 x64 and I use eset nod 32 9 as my anti-virus.

My firefox was working just fine then I woke up today tried using it as normal and pages would have all those combinations of issues. It always has on all sites with security now

Other internet browsers do work and are secure I just really want to get back to using firefox.

For the past 3 days I have been getting the error message: "The connection has timed out The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

Whenever I try to load google or gmail or any other google related website. I have had no problems loading any other website. No changes were made prior to this error starting, I have run updated antivirus and anti malware programs, cleared cookies cache and browser history, restarted several times, even restarted to last known good configuration, nothing has fixed the problem.

Hi there,

I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue that seems to be specific to FireFox and a specific website.

If you browse to www.denali.gov with FireFox, and then on the right side of the page click on "Denali Commission Project Database", FireFox will first pop up a message that says: "Your connection is not secure"

Here is a direct link to the page: https://www.denali.gov/dcpdb/index.cfm?nossl=true&fuseAction=Indicators.ShowProjectMapLink

Then if you click on Advanced and click the "(Not secure) Try loading www.denali.gov using outdated security" that page will fail to load with the following error message:

"An error occurred during a connection to www.denali.gov. The server rejected the handshake because the client downgraded to a lower TLS version than the server supports. Error code: SSL_ERROR_INAPPROPRIATE_FALLBACK_ALERT"

Before anyone says "have you tried searching our forums or Google?", I've been researching this issue for the past hour and have not been able to come up with a solution. I checked the TSL settings on the "about:config" page and changed the version.min settings, but that does not fix the problem.

I have not been able to come up with anything, and so I turn to you guys... :-)

Has anyone seen this issue before and has a fix? The error is easily reproducible: Browse to the page using FireFox and I'm sure you'll see the same error.

However, the page loads fine in other browsers. Except, I don't want to use other browsers; I want to use FireFox.
