I have Firefox 23.0.1.

I am trying to import Firefox bookmarks from a json file on another disc, and merge these with my existing bookmarks.

I only have options to import an html file. I can also use restore to bring in the file, but this will overwrite my current bookmarks, and I want to merge the two.

Since this new version got updated without my consent, i have lost my add-ons which annoys me greatly.

I am getting pop-up adds again, where as the version i was running previously they did not show up.

I had my old version customised just the way i like it, and i want it back. I am unphased about "bugs, glitches and security issues" as i trust my anti-virus to do its job. I would just like the version i had back the way i had it. This new version is not good and looks like google chrome, and if i wanted chrome, i would download it

I am running an older machine, but with a fresh install of Windows 7. Until the latest update, I had no issues with the versions of Firefox since my last OS install. Now when I am in the latest Firefox 23.0.1, I get occasional freezing that will lock the entire machine and need a hard restart. I am still diagnosing, but to date the only constant I know is Firefox. I have not experienced the same freezes using IE.

Occasionally I will think the freeze is happening when I lose both keyboard and mouse control during a Firefox session, but after 1 to 2 seconds, they both return. Typically though, it just freezes. Most times it occurs while I am away from the keyboard getting coffee or something. It is so transparent, the only thing that tells me the freeze occurred (other than loss of mouse and keyboard) is the system time still being several minutes ago.

I have seen the other forum message regarding Firefox 21 and Firefox 22, but I figured I ask in a new message regarding Firefox 23.

I have done the reset to Firefox as of last night. I reloaded Ghostery as my only Add-On, which was the only Add-On running during earlier versions of Firefox. Already this morning I have had the 1 to 2 second pause, but no freezing yet. (Now Troubleshooter has been added due to this message.)

I took the old drive out of the laptop and put it in a USB case so I now have my entire OLD hard drive as drive E ...but no applications will actually run of course. So...I want to find my OLD profile on drive E (particularly bookmarks) and copy and move it to my NEW firefox installation on drive C. Both computers were/are running Win7 64 bit if that helps. Thanks much in advance for any help.

I apologise if this is the wrong place to post this, but I thought to share my findings as I have seen other unresolved issues on the support forums matching my issue. I am not really interested in helping to solve the problem, as I have a workaround, but thought that someone in the Mozilla community might appreciate my findings.

Around a week ago, I began seeing regular system freezes. I was unable to pin down the exact cause of the freezes but there were some anomalies:

@Running Windows 7 Professional @No blue screen @Was unable to retrieve any trace or core dump @System ran fine in safe mode, but NOT when running a "clean" boot

I would be running for around 10-30 seconds after login before having a complete lockup and having to cut the power to the PC.

I pinned the crashes on one of two possibilities:

1. Hardware failure 2. Driver conflicts / issues

Instead of turning off services one by one to narrow down the problem, I opted for a complete re-install. I wiped the hard disc and re-installed windows from CD. After completing the initial setup, I left the desktop open for an hour, waiting for any freezes. After an hour of running, I began to start applications, ran solitaire, IE, etc. Another hour passed of me browsing the web with no crash. I installed all system updates and again waited an hour with no crash.

I had thought my problems solved, so I began a few downloads for applications: Deluge, Steam and Firefox. Firefox was the first installer to complete, so I installed and launched, within 10 seconds my system froze again.

After looking for other issues, I've seen there could be a conflict between firefox and my AMD display drivers. I have seen a few of these issues (still unresolved) in the mozilla support pages.

Despite me preferring firefox, I'm not too keen on spending any more of my time to help resolve this issue and am now using (urgh) Chrome. I'll keep an eye on firefox patch notes for any references to the issue and will try again in a few months.

As of writing this, I am back up to a rough description of my system before and have been running chrome with no crashes for 24 hours.

Again, apologies for my hasty description, likely posted in the wrong place, but I hope that someone finds this useful.

I began on the Web with the NCSA Mosaic browser. I then progressed through Netscape Navigator and into Mozilla ("Mosaic killa") and the original Firefox betas. O, how I wax nostalgic for the "good old days" back before Satan discovered the Internet and decided to condemn us all to eternal damnation via the advent of tabbed browsing.

I gave tabs a chance. They only caused clutter, confusion and consumption of screen real estate. Anything that could be done in a new tab could be done much better in a new window. I've been biding my time, waiting for the majority of Web users to realize that tabs were useless and foolish, but alas, the majority of Web users are apparently... useless and foolish.

The next great crime to be committed was for the first Firefox option to change from New Window to New Tab. It took me nearly a year to overcome my habitual clicking on the first option, unintentionally opening a new tab, then having to waste time closing it and going back to carefully scroll down to the next option of New Window.

We were given SOME reprieve with the options to uncheck "Always show the tab bar" and "Open new windows in a new tab instead," but what we really needed was an option to "Open new TABS in a new WINDOW instead." Better yet, one that would say, "Completely disable tabbed browsing and remove all 'tab' options from menus and hotkeys."

Now the Apocalypse is upon us, and with Firefox 23, we are forced to have a stupid TAB at the top of our browser window. We should NOT need to use an add-on or manual code to make it go away. I have trodden the path of righteousness for as long as I could muster, but yea, I grow weary, and the Dark Side is calling me to finally click that box that says "Install Google Chrome."

As for my question.... If I were to join a dating site, should I be upfront and admit my shameful browser choice to prospective partners in my profile, or wait until we know each other better so they are more willing to accept such a flaw in my moral character?

Running a version of Linux, the default application for PDF files is "Use Document Viewer (default)", which appears to be /usr/bin/evince. I'd much prefer to use /usr/bin/okular; how can I change the default. This question is NOT about how to change the function that is automatically applied when I access a link, in this case "Preview in Firefox", but rather to the default application that I can select when I download a file being viewed in Firefox's previewer.
